Help w/my layout please(first time poster)

Okay!thanks for your answers to my futile first effort at photos but I think I've got it now. I am a blank slate and can move anything in my gutted-to-the-studs area.I'm thinking of a 6-burner range, 36"builtin fridge, and a choice between 1) slidein range w/regular oven plus a micro/convection someplace at eye level. OR 2)a range top and a separate stack of regular oven and micro/convection(any size)elsewhere. I'll use the micro/convection most. 30" Shaw sink, smaller prep sink.

the kitchen is open to the great room. we're emptynesters so no crowds of kids anymore, fairly calm kitchen with all-white painted cabs. am thinking the island will be one level even though that means no protecting views to the great room. Perhaps a large decorative item there ie one of igloochic's chickens or another barnyard animal. I hope to use the forum idea of a secret kick door to the pantry(made of matching cabinet fronts) Thanks so much for any comments or complete dissections. This place is both fun and seriously helpful.

What a great space. I love the big mudroom/laundry room. And the pantry! I think you've done a great job. Since you're emptynesters the 36" builtin fridge may be enough space, but you may want to consider a 42" builtin since you are going to loose some cubic feet inside the fridge with a builtin. Whether to go with a range or stove top & built in ovens is really a matter of preference. I like the range option best because you free up more counter space. Can't wait to see pics as this progesses.

Can the mudroom/laundry get a little deeper? It's so narrow and long, I'm afraid of it being a lot of square footage, but not too efficiently used. I'd want to turn the washer and dryer with their backs to the garage or kitchen to get a sink and/or counter space next to them. The way it is, even a hamper down in the laundry end of the room will get in the way of standing at the machines. They are really in kind of a tunnel.

The kitchen looks pretty good. If you foresee using the micro convection often, as you said, I'd want it more in the kitchen, rather than on the fridge wall, past the island. I might place it right next to the pantry and move the range/rangetop down toward the main sink. That way it's close to the fridge and the prep sink, and you could use the counter to the side or the island for landing space.

Hi, It's not that I dislike cherry (I think it is beautiful), I just was not sure if it would work w/ the antique bronze finish of the bed (vs. being a black rod iron). Not to mention, I'm having a hard time finding cherry furniture that isn't more on the louis-phillipe look vs. what I'm looking for (a little less ornate/scrolly). The dresser that is in there now will not be in there. That is being moved to our guest room. I actually love that dresser & the chest that goes w/ it, but it is too small for the room & in comparison to my bed. it belonged to my husband's great grandmother & when she passed we got it. I was thinking something else might work (see link below)... but I haven't the slightest clue where to find unfinished furniture, so I can paint it myself (I guess I can always check 2nd hand stores & CL to see if they have anything)... I was thinking I could do dressers/chests in the burgandy-ish (its like a plum/burgandy) color in my bedding?? Thoughts? kc - thank you for doing those links! Hey there, Frugaljon....welcome aboard. I wish to recommend to your pleasure a video on YouTube about the Hanging Hosta of Hampshire. Ever heard of them? I've watched the videos innumerable times, trying to note details of how they manage so many hosta, and what happens when winter comes, you know, just looking and dreaming. I link to one such video below. My hosta garden is 25 x 100 and is in coastal Alabama (near the Gulf of Mexico), and my zone is considered 9a or at best 8b. We have an undependable winter here, but we manage a few freezes and cold temps enough to make dormancy possible. Get ready to join the fun day after Christmas, when the Hosta Alphabet series begins. Yes! We got it sorred out. So it turned out to be a loose circuit breaker. It was the new sub panel put in for our kitchen reno. We had some electrical work done and hired an electrician tonadd some recessed lighting. He ran it back to the new subpanel and he comes up from the basement nd asks if we were having problems with the stove. I said yes. He said he noticed the breaker wasnt seated properly. It was making a connection but just barely. He popped it out and popped it back in and sure enough I went and ran that oven at 500 for an hour with no issues. The cause imo was the weak current was causing the computer to think there was a fan issue. An anomaly. Want to say we have since moved and it was a relief to be able to have that taken care of. I will buy Thermdor again! They did send us a new range (after repeated service calls). So would so donit again

Wow! What an amazing kitchen that will be. I'm trying to fight the urge to kiss the image of your pantry on my monitor. I don't understand why you have your ice maker in the cook/prep zone. It would make more sense to me to put it near where people are going to be making drinks. I think I'd switch the fridge/freezer columns with the clean-up sink/DW placement. They would still very accessible for prepping but it's also accessible for people who just want to grab a drink or a snack without them having to cross behind someone doing clean-up and, thus, having to walk around the DWs. If someone is cooking and going to the fridge, and someone else is doing clean-up, it would create traffic jams if someone also wants to get that drink or snack. Switching fridge and clean-up will eliminate one potential person from that scenario. I would put the MW drawer between the fridge/freezers and DW. Quite often, something out of the fridge or freezer just needs to be nuked to be eaten. If you switch clean-up and fridge/freezer as I recommended above, someone can come to the fridge, nuke something, and never enter either the clean-up or prep/cook zones. Also, make sure there is some filler between the oven stack and the wall. You need space for the door to open without being too close to the wall. I'm not sure how much. I'm guessing 2" would work but investigate further to be sure. I sure hope you're planning on a powerful hood, vented outside, and possibly needing make-up air, for your big cooktop.

Where was the bathroom? Did I miss it. I love the mudroom off the garage, maybe you could even save some space and put the utility sink out in the garage?

thanks so much! good points, rhome, on the oven.and maybe i should stack the washer/dryer to give me more width in the laundry area. yes,teddas, the bathrooms, and master bdrm, etc., continue in the wing to the south. no room in the small garage for anything. i'll keep working on this...
