antique brown granite or dark emperador marble?
Comments (4)The problem with darker marble is that when it etches it gets a bit whitish. Dulling is etching. If you don't care for the patina you could have it repolished every couple of years but then it will bring the cost up to that of the granite. Maybe have it honed? It's also a busy marble with all those veins. Are you sure you want all that pattern over such a large area? I would find a less expensive granite you also can love. Call other granite yards for other quotes on it. It is a more expensive granite but that does seem a little high....See Moremy labradour antique granite cracked!!!!
Comments (20)MANY if the stones sold as 'granite' are anything but. Rea granite is VERY heat resistant, with a very small coefficient of expansion (this is what can lead to local expansion upoon heating and cracking). Granite is also a very good heat conductor, so the heat quickly spreads anyway. Non-granite stones may have higher expansion coefficients, and if there are inclusions in the stone (the nice colors) these also produce weak spots. The other problem in putting hot pots on the granite is it WILL cool them off very quickly. It is heavy and has good thermal conduction. It will pull heat out of the pan very quickly, but has such high mass it may barely be warmed. Many stones feel 'cool' since they conduct heat so well when you touch them they do not warm up under your finger....See MoreCrack/Fissure in Brown Antique Granite
Comments (3)How did this turn out for you? I was just told my granite has a fissure that was made worse during transport. He is going to install and fill it on site, then polish it out. He said it will be fine when he's done, but told me I might not want to see it beforehand. I know myself, and he must have a good sense about me too, because he's right. I will fret if I see something "bad" upfront even if it will be fine in the end. He said my stone was a fragile one, and there are risks of this happening during transport, he always hopes it won't, but in this case it did. Could use some reassurance that this turned out ok for you in the end....See MorePlease Help Select Counter-Walnut or Brown Antique?
