I don't know, but I'll be curious to hear, because I am planning to buy a gas Electrolux range, and I have heard they are made by Dacor.

Just returned from shopping for fridge and electric range. Salesperson said NO when I asked about Dacor fridge. His words were something like "they are not in the game" He did recommend the Electrolux fridge and even Electrolux range! I will be looking on internet to see if they are made by Dacor!!!!

Wow, that's interesting too! I have read sooooo many bad things, including on this forum, about the Electrolux fridges. Maybe they have finally fixed all the problems they were having with temp control?

Maybe the salesperson says they are not in the game, because they are not offering incentives to salespeople or something!!! Who knows? I have visited a couple of recommended appliance stores, including ones that carry sub zero and others. Each time, different recommendations. I could have left a store with a Bosch, a Kitchenaid, an Electrolux, or a Sears (Kenmore, maybe). And that is just the refrigerator! Consumer reports rates a Whirlpool and Samsung model high for the bottom-freezer. I am still looking.

Over the past few years, a number of people have had complaints with Dacor ovens - I don't remember exactly but I think it had to do with ovens chipping, unevern heating, etc. My impression is that for the price you can do a lot better with Miele or Wolf. You might try searching on the appliance forum but I don't know if the threads are still around.

My parents (in S. Jersey) have had nothing but problems with their new Dacor wall oven, cd sxs fridge (problem with ice maker) and dishwasher (on number 3!!). They would not recommend Dacor.

I have Dacor ovens - now four years old. I've not had any problems. I chose Dacor based on strong recommendations from a couple friends who had them at the time - range/ovens only - no fridge or DW. Right after I got mine, they came out with new fangled, much more expensive ovens - though they still carried the older model like mine (not sure if they still do). At the time I remember thinking - no way would I buy a new model like that. Lots of bells and whistles to break down and I think it takes a couple years to work out the kinks in new models. Since then I've noticed quite a few complaints - some serious - on the appliances forum. To be fair there have also beens some serious complaints about other high end brands including Wolf. Based on what I've read here though, it does seem like people have pretty much been staying away from Dacor in recent years. With the internet word gets around fast if you release a new product with lots of problems - not good for the brand's reputation. If you have that problem going on when the economy goes in the tank it seems like you're going to start sliding down the slippery slope and need to start cutting costs - then you start losing people - etc. All of which would be consistent with the tales you're being told. It also seems like others like Wolf have a better reputation for service and standing behind their products when there are major problems.

I'd never consider a Dacor fridge or dishwasher - that just doesn't seem like their forte. Does someone else make those appliances for them?

I have a Dacor oven, and the salesperson at the appliance store where I bought it suggested it to me. They carried everything under the sun at that store. I like it very much, although it does seem to take a long time to heat up. But in every other way, I like it a lot.

I did a quick search on Appliance Advisor, and from the various news stories and commentary I found there, Dacor does appear to be in trouble. The company has gone thru a couple rounds of layoff and let its entire creative team go last year. Furthermore, Dacor has cut all of its warranties back to 12 months and now requires all warranted repairs to go thru Dacor itself for pre-diagnosis as a cost-saving measure. Based on what I read (applianceadvisor.com), I would think twice before buying a Dacor product.

I guess I would probably compare the kind of info brooksideiris mentions for Dacor with other brands. In this soft economy lots of companies are doing the kinds of things that are described above - layoffs, cost cutting, etc. - doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't do business with the company. They may just be doing what is needed to remain profitable and in business for the long haul.

I was disappointed with Dacor being "not recommended" I really liked the enclosed broil feature on the Dacor and I did not like the style of the Wolf's exterior. I settled on a Miele, which I really don't think is settling, but it is missing just a touch of options I liked about the others.
