I vote for chandeliers but I am a chandelier person, we have them everywhere.

plus they arent too wildly expensive and you can change them out easily

I like the simple bowl -- or one of the nook lights.

Oh, and is there a light over the other island? If so, what does it look like? What are your other light fixtures in your kitchen. What does your dining room light fixture look like & is it in view from the kitchen/family room? I think you want some consistency with other fixtures in view.

I like chandeliers as well, and was almost certain to go that way but as DH and I discussed it the more concerned we became that the space would always feel dressed up.

Regarding the other lights:
Lights in kitchen, besides the large island, are all can lights, so won't attrack attention. We also have under cabinet lighting. The Adjacent living rooms is a heavy scroll pewters/silvers/blacks finished ceiling fan (antique looking). The dining room and foyer will be replaced with something new, also in an antique pewter. I may actuall do that bowl as my foyer light, and it has a matching semi-flush that could go in the dining room.

Drum damask! I've looked at that one also. I love drum shades and am planning one over my dining table. Trendy? So what. If I don't like it in 10 years it's easy to change.

The single bowl and nooks look old to me, and not in a vintagey cool way.

I agree. Drum. It looks more unique, without being too unique. Dressy, but not too dressy. You get the idea.

I like the drum fixture most out of all of those choices. Chandeliers with crystals are too feminine for your kitchen. Honestly, I feel a masculine (neutral colors, leather, brushed or dull metals, subdued countertop), natural vibe come from it. I do love the color of the metals of the last two pics.

Do you care about the hardware colors matching the fixture? That might also be a consideration if you do.

would anyone know the brand/model of the 1st traditional "chandelier style" shown? (Or similar models to it that are fairly affordable?) Been looking for a warmer metal with the sparkle of a traditional chandelier...

Justice Lighting has a large line of faux fat candles. This one comes in a brushed nickel finish as well as the iron finish. Lots of other options for the geometry of these pieces--rectangles instead of round; tiers; different variations.

Another vote for the drum damask light. I LOVE chandy's but that light looks like it was made for your kitchen.

I am a chandy girl...I adore them. I had a "fancy" one in my previous breakfast room (similar to the PB one you posted) and it looked just right. It provided a counterpoint to my sort of rustic kitchen table, and I loved looking at it every day. If you really love the chandeliers...I wouldn't worry about looking too dressy.

Where did you find the drawer hardware? I have it too, and need more but I ordered it online and can't find the paperwork. I vote for the drum too!

Drum....buy the one that makes you happy regardless of being trendy.

Thanks everyone. I'm leaning toward the French Damask Drum, I believe the vintage pewter finish will go wil the antique pewter hardware.

kitchen novice44: The first traditional chanedlier is by Murray Feiss and is in their Seville collection in Peruvian Bronze.

sprtphntc: We looked at Hubberton Forge, they have some beautiful lights. I think the dark smoke finish looks closes to antique pewter. As I'm typing this, I think I may take another look at their site. ;)

if u can find a store near u that carries Hubbardton, they have all finishes that u can see in person. even if it says that fixture doesn't come in that finish, they can do it as a special order. i had the lighting store call and if was only $40.00 more. not bad for "special order" but their fixtures are not cheap to begin with.

so your best bet is to see the finishes in person and then decide. you can also see the different globes and they have quite a few. i felt it made a difference for me to see finishes in person then just online. i also wanted to see the quality of the product which is hard to do online.
