Boo Hoo, my backsplash arrived-wrong color!

I'm quite disappointed because my BS was supposed to be installed today. But when he opened the box I saw immediately that it was not the same as the sample in the store...not even CLOSE!

Here's the store sample:

This is what was delivered:

Now I have to wait another week or two and hope the next box has the correct color. Oh, well, it could be worse. At least I have a kitchen.

There is certainly a big difference - the first one went perfectly with your granite.

What is you granite color anyway, it looks very similar to mine?

It's Crema Bordeaux.

Lisa, yours has more all white leaves then mine did. But mine did have the variegated leaves and also the brown leaves in the beginning. The only prunning I did on it, was to train it to be a standard. I got it as a very small plant. Yours was already a standard when you got it. Since mine is in the ground, it grew to 15ft tall and the trunk, like yours, is as big around as your upper arm. And yes, I did see the little chick in the pot. :o) Maybe that poo keeps it variegated. lol It was covered with beautiful yellow flowers, but I want the variegation back. lol Where is Eric from Lou or Jerry from the zoo? Did I do the right thing? I guess it is too late now, if it was wrong. lol

I'm back again! I think I am close to finally picking out a tile. I should have a asked this in the very beginning - About "Side Splashes" ...when I had the old laminate countertops, there was a 4" laminate strip of "backsplash" running behind the countertop and it extended all the way to the side walls. Now there is an ugly mess on the wall where I removed the strip, and am wondering if the new tile backsplash should extend to the side walls again. I have read a lot that the "side splashes" are not always necessary and sometimes not appealing to the eye. Should I do a "side splash", meaning should I extend the tile where the wall changes direction and make it the same height as the rest of it? Or should I sand and paint those areas? I get a kick out of how close that clock on the stove is to really being centered-- almost as if it really WAS planned! LOL I agree with the others. I think once you get used to it, you won't even notice it. The one big problem has been alleviated, and frankly, it doesn't look bad. A little off topic, but I'm seeing alot of names I haven't seen in a while, and I just wanted to say hi to everyone. One in particular, though (AuntJen), I haven't seen literally in YEARS! Thanks for the replies and suggestions! I'm feeling a bit better tonight. We dragged some sheets of tile to the workshop and held them up "inside" the hood hutch, where they'll be installed. It looks better in an enclosed area. We've picked a grout that is chocolate brown which I think will temper the brightness and reflect in some depth. Also, oddly, it just simply looks better than it did when I pulled it out of the box. Maybe I just had a moment of disconnect when I first saw it - it was in bright sunlight and I had a WHOA - UHOH feeling. It no longer looks dramatically different from the sample. I think it's growing on me. J

I got it from a local tile shop here but the brand is "Lunada Bay Tile" Sumi-E series - Sesshu silk-matte finish.

The slate is "Stone & Pewter Accents" - Tumbled Slate Series - Earth.

I didn't realize it when I purchased it but it's made in ....guess where?... China.
IMO NO QC...that's probably why the colors are so far off.

Oh my gosh, what a difference! LOVE what you chose, but what came?--Not so much. Those are actually supposed to be the same, or was it another color mislabeled? Sorry for the delay, but I've learned to expect such things and be pleasantly surprised when they don't happen! It took about 3 1/2 months to get the white subways for our laundry room, which I thought would be the easy one...Bullnose backordered, then they sent the wrong white, then ended up sending a double order. Goofy things happen. Can't wait to see the right color installed. It'll be gorgeous.

No, I don't think it's the QC--if you look at the sumi-e tiles they come in regluar and silk and it looks to me like the group got mixed up:

Actually, the color pallette for them is the same...silk is 'frosted' and regular is 'regular'.
Here's a pic I took of sample from tile shop. Top is regular, bottom is 'silk' or what I call 'frosted'.
What arrived had WAY too much yellow in it.
