Does this backsplash design look right?
Comments (39)Thanks mamadadapaige. The sink is custom made, it was done from the same marble as our marble slabs so it matches :) They did a beautiful job with it too, we're very happy! beekeeperswife, I assume you are referring to the mirrored cabinet here since the glass cabinets are not in that picture? All of the cabinets in my kitchen are full overlay. BUT, we did feet around the fridge cabinet and a border so it sort of looks inset even though it is not. Here are some better pictures of it, along w/ an example of the inset cabs they did for us in the bath so you can see both. The toe kick isn't on here- we're having them make the toe kicks out of the wood from the wood floors so the toe kick disappears and gives the feel of floating furniture (yup, Dutch Wood can do that, they are amazing!) (They did the whole bathroom here of course, including the mirror- and the top drawers on the right are actually one big drawer w/ plug outlet inside, but they magically made it look like two). If you want to see more pics of my cabinets, there's lots more on the blog- not sure if you've seen it or not....See MoreLooking for a back splash for my kitchen?
Comments (3)A backsplash looks best if it can go all the way to the horizontal countertop, so first you need to see if the short splash can be removed. If you cannot remove it, you may want to keep the backsplash area painted except for the area behind the range. You would want a stainless or similar panel there to protect the wall from splatters. Backsplash with wood cabinets almost always looks best if it is vey simple - do not go with a small tile mosaic. If you have any plans to change out counters then wait on the backsplash. Your counters look fine in the picture, but backsplash comes after counters since replacing a counter can leave a gap with the backsplash or the backsplash can be damaged in the process. I used a simple cream subway tile with my wood cabinets: https://www.houzz.com/photos/my-pics-work-in-progress-phvw-vp~57088087...See MoreKitchen Back-splash - Glass tiles FALLING OFF
Comments (3)Here is a link to google, how that backsplash should have been installed. There are some u tube videos too. I watched one video, where they used grout, between the countertop and the backsplash, and grout should not be used there. Caulking shud be done between backsplash and countertop. My backsplash is also caulked in all the corners, rather than grouted. Once you watch these videos and read these articles, you will see that your thinset was put on improperly, and thats why your tiles are falling off. Please read carefully. https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=uI4VW7HdLszKjwTtrqSoAw&q=how+to+install+glass+subway+tile+backsplash&oq=How+to+install+glass+subway+tile+&gs_l=psy-ab.1.0.0l3j0i22i30k1l3.3755.12143.0.14244.41.29.3.9.9.0.173.3348.9j20.29.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..0.41.3556...0i131k1j33i22i29i30k1.0.70wb9L5GlO8...See MoreAdvice Needed on Kitchen Tile Back-Splash and LVT/LVP Flooring Color
Comments (5)Hi Chispa, House is a townhouse built in 1996, trying to modernize the look. As far as decorating style, I like modern/contemporary, nothing too funky. Something that would be cohesive with the rest of the kitchen, and bring the kitchen to life a little. It's very white right now....See Moredms11
