Sure, you can do that. You would just need to add a filler piece at the back where the faucet goes. Here's one on Houzz like that:

I have a question though. Just our of curiosity, why do you have finished sides on all your cabs? Generally finished sides are an expensive extra that are saved for sides that are going to show after installation.

As far as the cabs, when I ordered them I asked if the sides were finished and yes, that's how they came, no upgrade. KM from HD, painted white shaker door with mdf center. I had to compromise on the size of the sink base and chose the 27. I have a very tiny kitchen. I always had in the back of my head pulling it out a bit so I could maybe have the countertop swing out a bit just for style and then I could add a bun foot cut in half on either side but I have to see how that will look.

I have my sink bumped out in my current kitchen as well as the kitchen in progress. I love the extra space behind the faucet and sink for cleaning. However, the countertop becomes much more expensive. I believe it's around $150 or so for each extra corner for laminate, so I can only imagine that cost would increase if you went with stone. You are also adding more linear feet to be finished as well. I didn't think about the additional cost the first time I did, but the expense was worth it to me.

Just went and looked at that Houzz photo again and noticed that they have table lamps on either side of the sink and a framed photo. Who puts table lamps on their sink? At least they don't have the cords trailing on the surface. Love the marble counters though.

Questions/Issues: Kompy KD

1. Does your lazy susan have doors that swing open or revolve inside? If they swing out....that could be a problem.

2. Do you have vinyl ends, wood ends or flush wood finished wood ends? The vinyl does not always match so perfectly and if white, may age differently over time. Also, if you don't have flush wood ends on the sink base, the cabinet width is 27" at the front....but the actual side would be about 3/16" narrower on BOTH sides. So you would need to trim that out! OR, order flush skins to flush it out. Trick of the trade: try using toekick to flush it out. I think their toekick is same thickness....3/16" But I can't recall.

3. How wide is your sink? It may have to be pushed back some, resulting in a wider counter in front of your sink. It might also result in a weak spot in the top.

I wish I had done this - but still love our new kitchen!

Suzannesl, I did not notice the lamps at first. ..a bit silly don't you think? That is just a bit too close for electricity and water for me! My eye went right to the marble.

Kompy, thanks for the spot on details and points to consider. The susan revolves inside the cab, the sink cab is all flush wood at the corners but I love the toe kick solution. The sink will probably be 25x22 under mount single bowl. I wondered why the sink looked further back when the cab was a bit extended. Something to consider!

A2gemini, I love to hear how people are happy with the end result. After the compromises, I am not sure if I will really end up with what I had hoped for but I learned here the importance of being flexible and making choices along the way!

The lamps, picture frame etc. may just have been for "staging". This kitchen may have been a commercial shoot for a magazine, don't you think?

Perhaps quiltgirl . . perhaps. I do like the idea of a tiny little lamp on the counter (away from the sink, far away!) and I may end up with that if I can't figure out my u/c lighting!

I had my sink base cabinet made 3' deeper than the rest of the bases and I love it. Here is a picture (before countertop and DW went in):

If you do pull yours out, since it was not built deeper to begin with, you can have supports (cleats?) put in to give extra support for the stone countertop. I had to do this by my DW where there is a seam and my contractor also put in supports in the dead space behind the base corner cabinet.

If you do bring your sink base out, consider ading the decorative sides so it looks like it was planned that way. It should be easier to match white than a wood stain. I like your bun feet idea.

Surprise kitchen is at a standstill, because I'm indecisive.

The extra cost was shocking to say the least, just because I assumed that since I could buy prefab laminate for dirt cheap, that I could buy custom laminate for not much more. I was wrong. But because I've been using the countertops daily for the last 5+ years, the added cost doesn't seem so bad. I'm still debating on perimeter countertops now, but I'm willing to pay the extra cost no matter just to have the bumped out sink.
