I have Omega - They are a cherry-ish stain. 10 years old and look good as new. We are painting them white, go figure. I want a white kitchen - but the cabinets are in such good shape, there is no reason to replace them. Never heard of Kith - but that doesn't really mean anything.

All of the cabinet companies you mentioned above having poor reviews make good cabinets. When you read reviews about finish it's often from people who don't understand wood and how it takes stain, that glazing is never uniform and that paint on wood is eventually going to separate at points where it expands and contracts. As far as fit, it's the poor installation, most often at fault, not the cabinet construction. If you stick with standard finishes you will avoid these problems that often (not always) based on misconceptions. For a frameless cabinet IKEA is an excellent value. I almost used them but I prefer framed cabinets with a 1/2" overlay so I went with Kraftmaid. They will be arriving in a couple of weeks. I did give up some storage space in favor of design. On the other hand Ikea was more restrictive in how I wanted my laout. I will be using there shallow tall units for a pantry on another wall in the future. At that time I will get the doors made elsewhere to match the wood of the Kraftmaid. No problem since it's hickory without fancy stains etc. It's be an easy "match". I also found that in the long run the cabinets cost about the same after you factor in all the special inserts that fit Ikea. For example the drawers don't have sides so you need to buy glass ones and the bottoms are radiused to fit all the Ikea specialty inserts etc. We'll do our own install and I bought my own special features like pull outs etc. online previously so I saved a lot there. Also hit a good sale at Lowes when I purchased the cabs.

@The Kitchen Place - I agree. Problem is finding the right kitchen person. Last night we looked again at Lowes near our house as they have Kraftmaid, Shuler, Diamond Intrigue and couple others. They all looked the same to me. Now I wish there were places where one could find cabinets side by side and look at the inside, how they built, but probably not going to happen. And much harder to tell how good the finish are. The LF pricing also seems way off (of course it has the word starting from xxx). The Diamond, Schuler were like $250/$300 LF. For 10x10, that should be starting from $6k. I think I would be happy if I got these at $12k. Anyways I am going to price them through Lowes. Only costs $100 or so for them to come measure and price the options. We also tried another local place called Demetra Cabinetry. Rough estimate is $22k.

Following up on this discussion. I have since met with four different cabinet "brokers"; two who do custom builds, one who works in kitchen/bath design, and another online retailer. I feel even more confused. The custom cabinet guy has been in busy here for decades. He does custom and he will also order with factory finish. We talked at length about finish durability and he said the most durable finish is one that is done in the home after install with coats of paint and a topcoat. I have also tried to reach out to two area Omega dealers and have gotten no response from either. In talking with other companies about how cabinets are made with them, I do not understand why the unfinished maple cabinets (plywood boxes and doors) would be considered "junk" as mentioned. To me, they seem to be of better quality. They are not made in China, but in the NE states and come fully assembled with custom sizes and styles. They are also 1/2 the price of the quotes I have gotten here for finished mdf cabinets.
