Help! what color of cabinets goes with my goldish oak floor (pic)
Comments (11)I can't see your photos, so can't see exactly the color oak you have...... but we just went thought this with our gold-colored floors, which are red oak. We originally thought we'd like a mid-toned wood like a slightly stained maple. We brought home sample pieces from the kitchen cabinet store, and looked at them against the floor on all kinds of light. The stained maple looked awful. The natural maple, which when new is really light, looked nice, but we knew that in a couple of years it would have yellowed, and look much the same as the floors. The natural cherry looked slightly light (because it was new and not sun-changed yet) but it looked the best; plus, within a few months cherry darkens up so it will look even better. That's what we chose. I do think white would look great with the golden-toned oak floor... but I've just seen soooooo many white kitchens, and the style of our house begs for wood cabinets, so we chose cherry. I recommend going to the cabinet place and asking if you can take samples home. They usually have stacks of little wood pieces for customers to try. Look at them in all light, day, night, sunny, cloudy. And remember that all wood will change with age. Cherry is one of the quickest, and it gets darker. Maple or beech will both darken and get a lot more yellow. Stacey...See Morewhat color trim color goes with white dove kitchen cabinets
Comments (10)Our cabinets are BM Gardenia, a very warm white. We matched the trim to the cabs, including the baseboards. For the ceiling, we went with BM ceiling white, whatever that is. For us it worked out well. The business of "layering whites" has worked out well for many posters on this site. Personally, I think, that except for the ceiling, as long as there is some separation between the whites, you can have almost as many shades as you like. Like you, we also went with a grey-ish color for the walls. Ours is a 50/50 mix of BM Metallic Silver and Pidgeon Grey. If you're looking for a light grey, look at BM Metallic Silver. It was too light for us, but it may work for you. Also, keep in mind that paint is the easiest and least expensive thing to change. Comments (19)i'm so sorry i didn't follow up...the kids were off for spring break and i'm just getting things back in order now. here is my inspiration... http://www.flickr.com/photos/60751940@N04/5642073636/in/photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/60751940@N04/5642072206/in/photostream thank you everyone for all your thoughts. they are so helpful and point out that you really need to see everything in person. celeine, i also saw a large sample of the rosemary and i agree that it is very green. being away for a little bit has helped me a bit...i think. i seem to run circles and always end up with virginia mist. but that's today and i'm sure i'll change my mind by tomorrow. i think i need to make a decision soon though...mostly for my sanity! debbie...i appreciate your thoughts. i have a feeling if i end up with the virginia mist granite i will need to go more white. i like the idea of warming it up with creamy walls and we will use our current "warm" hardwood floors. francoise...think i'm going with virginia mist but i could be swayed. did you decide? what color of cabinets are you working with? thanks again everyone. take care....See Morewhat type of artwork goes with an abstract rug that's teal, blue, cream
Comments (9)I don’t like trying to choose art for people I don’t know, but did think of this piece when I saw your room. I’m not sure if the size would work, though. I really like how quiet it is. It’s intriguiung and makes me want to look closer. I also like the traditional style of it, as a nice mix with the more modern rug. https://magnolia.com/shop/product/4532765950003/lagoon-in-venice/ But again, the size may be off. I’ve found wonderful and unique art on Etsy. To search, just put in keywords of things you like....See MoreRelated Professionals
