which brand insta hot / hot water dispenser?

we had a franke at our last house but it started leaking soon after install. never could get it to work well... do you have an instant hot dispenser (hot water only) that is working out for you? i'd like a simple goose neck in polished nickel. ..and i'd love it if i could get it on ebay or in other words, cheap! i need three... thank you!

I just picked 1 up at Costco. It was only $150 for everything. hasn't been installed yet.

My house is 19 years old & I'm on my 4th one. Insinkerator has a variety (our 1st three), with the kitchen remodel I chose Franke. The plumbers told me they all wear out after a couple of years-so go cheap. I always replace them because they are so convenient you never want to be without it again.

If you get a Kerig, when it breaks, you don't have an extra hole in your granite. The insta hot does not last long, so unless you want to replace it often, I would go with the soap dispenser. When we moved into our new/old house, I temporarily lost my soap dispenser because the existing faucet had a plate covering the extra holes in the sink. Now that I have switched the faucet to the Kohler Simplice, I once again had room for a soap dispenser. DH installed the Never MT when he installed the new faucet and soap dispenser. Ahh, heaven. I never have to go searching for the dish soap, and the dispenser is long enough that it squirts right into the middle of the sink for quick and easy clean-up. LOVE it.

Cold/hot water dispenser or just water in fridge?

In our remodel, we will have external ice and water and a hot water dispenser in the prep sink. Right now we use the Brita and a hot water pot (plugged in 24/7) which keeps water boiling hot but sits on the counter and takes up lots of space. My kids and DH love cold water and miss the dispenser (which is currently broken on my kitchenaid) That was one of their musts for the new kitchen. I LOVE hot water and can't live without it for tea and hot water, hot chocolate. I would rather pull a lever rather than microwave or boil water. SO, for our remodel, my rationale was since i'm getting cold filtered water in the fridge- I would save and get the hot water dispenser in the sink. If the water dispenser in the fridge is that slow..i'll put the Brita in my new and bigger fridge. For me it wasn't a hard decision- it seems overkill to have 2 filtered cold water dispensers. Now I have to look into the energy consumption you are talking about because I am trying to be energy conscience and efficient with this new remodel.

Such a personal preference question I think. But I'll tell you why I am getting the instahot. I currently have a hot water dispenser on my counter which I have used tonnes. I got one from my MIL who was downsizing, thought I'd bring it out when she came to visit and put it away in between. Then I found it super useful so when the one she gave me broke I went out and bought another. I guess we use a fair bit of hot water in my house! So the instahot will get one more bulky appliance off my counters. Regarding some of the other responses - my instahot will be filtered before it is heated. I thought that was pretty standard? I guess it depends on how much filtration you need/want. Might not be able to get the best of filtration but it's good enough for me and our water. And the hot water from the instahot is very near boiling. But not boiling, just almost boiling. So if you need it really boiling then a kettle is still the way to go. A downside might be the potential for scalding ... so I'm having a valve installed by the plumber so I can switch it off when my kids are playing at the sink. A bit of a pain until they're old enough to be trusted at the sink but worth it for my peace of mind. It might not be an issue for you, but you wanted both pros and cons right?! I pondered the soap dispenser and never MT. I think they're great, but I decided I didn't want so many things cluttering my sink since the instahot will be there already. On a day to day basis there will be clutter. My house is lived in and the kitchen gets tonnes of use so on a day to day basis the dish and hand soap will both be out. But I wanted to be able to put those away for a cleaner and less cluttered look when/if I want to. Also, unless you have mostly plastic in the soap dispensing guts there can be corrosion of the metal parts from the added antibacterial agents and perfumes/colours in the soap. I've found that on my countertop soap dispenser in my MB - mostly aesthetically dis-pleasing so I haven't replaced it yet. It probably isn't too much of an issue since tonnes of people use them on the kitchen sinks. So for me I would have probably done the soap dispenser if I wasn't already doing the instahot. I just don't want so much stuff being permanently attached to the back of my sink. In regards to the disposal there are tonnes of interesting and varied opinions in the link you've already been given. I won't bother repeating it all again! HTH!

Undercounter water filter / insta-hot / chiller

It's a new kitchen, so what about getting the kind of fridge that has cold water in the door? The instant scalding hot tank has to be undercounter near the tap. Also a water cooler if you get one. But a fridge can replace the water cooler. Here are a few details that may be good to know, brnstn. 1.) The water filter can be far far away, up high or down low somewhere not under the sink. So you could put it in the cabinet above the fridge or .... 2.) There are several kinds of water filter. Some are two large cylinders in series, and they give you a strong flow that *could* feed all the faucets. Some are tiny cylinders that produce a small flow; these then require special low-flow taps. 3.) In either case, the filtered water line could feed the IHW tank. This keeps the IHW tank cleaner as there is less sedimentation of gunk in the tank; then in turn this helps the tank last longer because there is then less corrosion. Any tank is a sedimentation device because the tank holds water, and every day, overnight, when all is quiet, particles and stuff will fall out of the water onto the bottom of the tank. (With house water heaters this is a big problem.)

Ours is a Quick & Hot Tank that we bought from www.freshwatersystems.com for $137.99 and it is the same as the one sold by Waterstone for a lot more! It also says on their website that it's compatible with several other faucets, apparently other companies buy this same tank and put their own name on it. I bought a polished nickel Waterstone faucet (Hampton Suite) on Ebay for $75, which was a steal and it coordinated with my Waterstone main faucet (Annapolis Suite also purchased on Ebay!). I love mine so far! I've used it more for cleaning pans since I mostly drink hot tea in the winter, but I'm planning to use it to make iced tea very soon.

Here is a picture of mine, sorry it's blurry but I'm heading out the door to go to the Dr. and it's the only one I have.

Hi Eastcoastmom, it was an individual, actually every single faucet I got came from an individual and I bought 3! Each one had their own story, one was from a remodel for someone that didn't like the look of it so he had it leftover. Another came from a guy who bought clearance stuff at a showroom and just wanted to get rid of it. The one I got the insta hot faucet from was called bodiebucs, I still see that they have plumbing stuff, a few items now and again. You might send them an email and ask if they can get what you are looking for, it would be worth a try.

bkatz - thanks for the info on Costco. I just checked and it's currently $130 in both the chrome and satin nickel finish. I can't believe it's only $130 for both the dispenser and the faucet. I checked elsewhere and it's normally about $200 for just the dispenser and another $150 and up for just the faucet. This is a fantastic buy. Thanks so much!!!

I got the one by Insinkerator. I think it was $279 because I was in a rush to get it done. It is less expensive online. I got the brushed nickel finish. Just did it two weeks ago and initially it had a metallic taste to the water but it seems to be improving. anyone else notice this with their insta hot water?

Yes, I noticed the same thing. I have had mine just a few weeks and it still tastes funny. I'm not sure what the problem is (the tank, new hoses, ???). The water from my regular faucet is just fine. Mine was Insinkerator brand too.

For the funny taste, you need to run the faucet until cool water comes out (empties out the tank and refills it). Do this several times and it will get better. If you don't use it much for a while you will also need to do this, because the water seems to get stale.

Note that ISE has models with warantees ranging from 1 yr to 5 yrs with better faucets and don't get the cheapest hot1 and think it will be as good quality as the nickel gooseneck one. Also, they are using a new tank now.

If you ask what made your old one leak and where it was leaking from, it might give you a clue to weather a better faucet, a different tank or brand, or even a different installer, would help you avoid the problem again.

Also look at what temperature a unit heats to, and make sure it is ok with you if you get one that is 10 degrees or so cooler than another, esp if you like really hot tea. Boiling is 212 degrees, ISE heats to 200 degrees and some only heat to 190 degrees. Some people feel even 200 degrees is not hot enough for tea. It is personal preference.

Found it for just $111 (typically sells well into the 200 + range) on amazon and took a chance on the vendor. It's not installed yet, but goes very well with my faucet. It seems that every one of these systems, including the expensive Frankes have had many reports of leaking etc. so I figured I would just go with something easily replaceable. Hopefully the new tank will be an improvement.

This dispenser comes with a 5 year in-home warranty and the tank with a three year warranty, which I believe is extendable by a year if you use an insinkerator certified installer.
