Oooooh! This is very cool!! Congratulations on the sink---at least one of us has one!

I may be wrong here, but I think the thing about the green wallboard is that you can use it in wet environments. A lot of my kitchen has it--and is currently primed, and painted where necessary. So, yes, you can paint it. It's just wall board. I assume (again, don't know for sure) they use it behind tile because it can take the wet of the mortar. And you know I like the tile ... :)

In the drawing it looks like the new cupboard is oven deep, and the Napanee isn't. Is that right? You might need the inches in the walkway, especially since, if I remember right, the room narrows, but if not, it would be nice to bring the kitchenette out to the same line with a little framing. Either that, or recess the other counter to match. For utility neither may be an option, however. Just an idea regarding line.

The thing that looks a little off is the location of the sink. I love the arched window, but it complicates the lines. You have the wall return on one side of the sink, and open wall on the other, and the window is just where it lands. For looks, I'd move the sink so that the left edge of the arch is at the middle point of the sink, and make the same amount of empty wall on both sides of the sink. That way the sink is "centered" even though it's off center. If you need every inch you can squeeze into the bookcase pantry, never mind, but this is a place where it might be a worthwhile sacrifice.

The alternative, centering the sink under the arch, and flanking it with the bookcases, might be less practical for carrying in an armload of vegetables and dumping them on the drainboard, and might be too expensive. If you did that, however, you could put a bridge cabinet over the window with trim that follows the arch, and contains the lighting underneath. Probably not in the budget, but it would be pretty if centering the sink to the window were an option.

That's the critique, because feedback is useful. And all that said, just as it is... Oooooohhh!! Pretty!!!!

The greenboard in our kitchen is painted (as is the greenboard in the bathroom), and we plan to tile the kitchen backsplash after the countertop is replaced. It is do-able, so I would not worry about that. If you know that you will ultimately tile (and you know which tile you will use), make sure the electrician knows your plan(something about how deep the box goes or the length of the screws used).

Plllog,You may come try out my sink when you are in Indiana, lol. The oven, new cupboard (temporarily the new kitchenet), and Napanee Kitchenet are all the same depth. The little end cabinet is ~ 12'' deep. Any deeper and the doors would hit the window trim.

At one point I was rehabbing an existing window to go on the outside wall. The size and position (sill 32'' off the floor) was fixed to match the window in the room to the west (you can't see it). The sink would not fit under the window because of the 12'' backsplash. Having anything on that wall also limited the amount of storage in the room, it's so narrow at 8' wide. The sink ended up where it is because I was trying to maximize the aisle width. With the sink to the middle of the room it squeezed the aisle width too much. Shallow depth pantry cabinets give me a little more room to work at the Napanee Kitchenet. Anyway, the plumbing is roughed in for the sink. DH and probably the plumber would kill me if I had it moved.

rubyfig, we considered putting a door between the bakery and kitchen. That is actually the outside corner of the house, and it juts out about a foot. You can see the shallow wall next to the sink. I'd like to see into the kitchen while I'm in the pantry anyway. Short cafe doors could always be added if the bakery is a sight! I am not the best at cleaning while I cook and bake.

Great idea. The only issues I see, and maybe I'm missing something, is I don't see a landing space near the sink (for dirty pans, for drying items, etc.).

One thing you might want to integrate is a fan for the ovens. My ovens are only a few feet from the range and Ventahood, but I set the smoke alarm (20+' away) off on a regular basis. If I had it to do over I would put a ceiling vent, like those used in a bathroom, in front of the oven.

You can tile over regular drywall. If the room is going to get really wet you should use cement board (but that is unlikely, I imagine). Green board has been largely discredited. You might want to email Bill V about it (and if he disagrees with me take his advice over mine).

I love it!! I'm sure you could paint over the green board until you tile. It's going to look fabulous!

Sue, The rendering does not quite look like the Clarion Farmhouse sink, but it has built-in landing space. It is 60 1/2'' long 18''drainboard - 24''sink - 18'' drainboard. I don't have a picture online, but it is very similar to this one.

Funny you mention ventilation. I had a thread asking about ventilation of the oven heat. Folks thought it was not needed. I use high heat and a baking stone often. The ceiling fan should dissipate any smoke, and the window can always be opened. I know it works, lol.
