Does anyone have a Rice Drawer in their kitchen?
Comments (12)I ended up making dog food early one morning when I thought I was going to make rice to take in my lunch. Dumped the bag into the boiling water to see things floating on top. I use a lot of rice but I would never try to keep a hinged lid top on my rice here in Iowa. I do use the snap on lids now, don't know what they're called but the four snappy things are colored. I bought the square ones. IF I do have creatures at least they are confined. A drawer like you describe sounds really good if you can keep the creepy crawlies out. Perhaps a plastic tote? I keep my 25# steel cut oats in those and parcel it out into an ice cream pail for the cupboard....See MoreDoes anyone have a drawer microwave?
Comments (8)Surprisingly it's not too difficult to clean. I use a wet, soapy cloth, reach in, and wipe across the entire surface two or three times. Then I lean over to check how I did...usually OK b/c MWs always seem to clean easier than most other things. I do have a policy, though, that "if you splash/splatter in the MW, you clean it up"...especially for my DS who likes to make Beefaroni for a snack when he gets home from school and used to forget to cover the bowl. It only took a couple of times b/f he learned...he's now very good at covering items in the MW. I admit I was a little worried about cleaning since I'm fairly tall and I thought leaning over to check the ceiling of the MW would be difficult. While it isn't as easy as a MW mounted @ counter level or higher, it isn't that bad. Overall I think it's much better than a regular MW mounted on a shelf below counter level. With a regular MW, you'd always be leaning and reaching in when using it, w/the drawer it's only occasionally when you clean it. Lascatx...that's what it overcooks. If I put the broccoli on "warm" when done, it overcooks it. If I take it out of the MW when done cooking & put it in the WD it doesn't end up overcooked. While I don't really dislike broccoli in general, I hate overcooked broccoli....See MoreGE Cafe Oven has huge vents openings. Does food fall in?
Comments (20)I roasted sliced delicatta squash and as I was scooping them off the baking sheet, one piece flung into one of the rear vent holes. I could see it briefly before it fell further. I have the GE Cafe electric double oven range. As for vent cavities, mine seems to have a "gap", a wide duct, a small duct, another "gap" (which the squash went into) and then a larger wide duct. Not sure where my squash went down to, or how to access the broiler plate in either oven. It's been very frustrating trying to probe or even see where it dropped to. Hoping it just dehydrates and doesn't cause any significant air flow obstruction. Not thrilled about the design after this happened, but at least this was the first incident after a year+ of having the range. Lesson learned - scoop side to side instead of towards the back, or chop my veggies larger... 😕 Was anyone successful with adding a mesh?...See MoreDoes anyone have a meat/food grinder?
Comments (15)several years ago, sister had a little "found money" and bought a bunch of attachments for her KA stand mixer. on a trip up from VA to visit, she gifted me ones she didn't use... she kept the pasta roller/maker thing and uses that a lot. there was some sort of juicer that i thin might have been missing a part or 2. a pasta extruder that i could not get to work. and the meat grinder attachment. if i used it a lot, would want one made of metal instead of mostly plastic. one of the things i make is homemade REAL bacon bits. supermarket sells the odds & ends of the pricey slab bacon CHEAP. it's usually not very pretty but always tasty. i grind the raw bacon... sometimes semi-freeze ahead of time. then slowly render till done. it lasts forever in fridge and dirt cheap compared to the mystery bit or even real bacon bits. when i make a meatloaf, i like bacon on top. a layer of the ground bacon on top works really well. i often see the old-school, hand-crank grinders at thrift stores or yard sale for WAY less than $20....See Moretwoscoops
