Cabinets Have Been Delivered!

Just got my cabinets delivered this morning. Of course I had to take a peek! The photo of the cabinet with the glass is more the true color, but less white, more creamy. The photo of the backsplash came out more yellowish for some reason. Just picked up the tiles for the backsplash yesterday. I really like the accent deco tile that I'm using. As soon as my GC is ready to start, we roll!

Our cabinets have been delivered, the fun starts March 3! Whoopie! We have selected shaker/mission style cabinets in cherry with briarwood stain (a medium brown!) The granite we've selected is Emerald Pearl. We have ordered new GE Profile BLACK appliances. We'll have brushed nickel accents throughout. We've selected Natural Cork Earth Series in Toledo. Thank you for all the help. I have read over the older threads and it has given me a lot to think about. These were helpful and thank you for posting them. I really liked the trash bags on the counter idea to see how it would look. Can anyone explain to me the difference in honed or leather Absolute Black? The leather Absolute Black would give it the rustic look we want. rgps can you tell me which quartz that is. Soapstone would be my number one choice but it really is not an option. Soapstone looking quartz could look very nice. RightDi I don't know the name of the granite slab, but I can find out tomorrow to let you know. Thank you for your help.

We closed on our lot yesterday! Finally! To save time we started schematics while in escrow and our schematic design is in for design review with our DRC. If that goes well, our architects will start on permit-ready plans in January. Right now it feels like we'll never get to the fun part - building. Hopefully early next year.

I have a love-hate relationship with my vitamix. Since it was designed for pros, it is not very pretty and too tall for even 18 inch clearance between counters and cabinets. But darn, that puppy works well. Our solution was the smaller canister and it turns out it actually is better for smaller batches of foods. An appliance caddy found at BBB for $10 is very handy to use with the mixer (as suggested above). Get a thinner light rail and a smaller canister and then forget about it. It is looks gorgeous so far and you won't see small differences in cabinet heights. Eta: the Handy Caddy at the Container Store is even a better price than BBB. It is the one we use and it stays on the rail with the Vitamin really well, but not so with the coffee maker.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I still can't believe how lucky I am to be getting a kitchen that I created (with BIG help from everyone here!).
Lily: The cabinets are Medallion brand, Brookhill door style, Divinity paint over maple. They're beautiful!
It was a big decision for me to choose a company with a nice painted finish, and so far I am very impressed with Medallion. Every cabinet has a sticker inside with the name of the person that constructed it. All the cabinets came in boxes that were really packed well. So far I'm impressed.
Hippie: So glad you're following my progress as I had followed yours. I can only hope that my kitchen comes out as beautiful as yours. By the way, good luck with your hutch decision!
I went over the cabinets checking and rechecking every detail that I had wanted and every size I ordered. It all seems to be there! When and if there's a bump in the road, I'm ready!

No Mary, they're not up yet! Haven't even started demo yet. GC is starting in a couple of weeks. I figure after the fourth of July. He just wanted to finish up a job he's on now. He claims he'll be done in 2 weeks! Ha! But, he has done work on our house before adding a detached garage and den and he is very capable of it. We'll see...
For now, my beautiful cabinets sit and wait. I visit them in our garage every morning and every night. My DH thinks I'm crazy. Thank you again with your helpful advice and photos when I was very undecided on the paint color. I am VERY happy with the color and the finish is beautiful!
Everything we need for the renovation (except the granite) is onsite and ready to roll.
Now in the middle of all this kitchen excitment my Mom found a lump in her breast that turns out to be cancer. Thank God she found it early and it's very small. She has chosen to have another mastecomy. She had one 10 years ago and it saved her life, so unfortunately she knows the routine.
She's due to have her surgery July 2nd. So, I'll be busy making sure she's OK. She's been very excited and has helped me with this kitchen and she feels bad that she has to go through this during my kitchen renovation. I told her - no problem. There's certainly more important things in life than a kitchen. Well, maybee...Never a dull moment.

I am so very sorry to hear the sad news regarding your mom. Tears welled up reading it. Hopefully it was found early enough. You and she will be in my thoughts and prayers. Life has a way of putting things like kitchen renos in perspective.

Yes, Barb. YOu and your mom will be in my prayers also. It is a difficult thing to go through even in the calmest of circumstances but with the renovation approaching, you will have your hands full. Here's hoping things go smoothly with the reno and especially with the recovery. Blessings!

Mary and Hippie: Thank you so much for the support, I really appreciate it. My mom is in her seventies and she's always taken care of herself and kept up with her doctors appointments, and thankfully, they caught her cancer very early. She could have chosen a lumpectomy, but chose a mastecomy so she didn't have to have any more mammos. She said at her age she could care less about the cosmetic aspect of the whole thing.
Within the last year she sold the "homestead" and moved into a very nice retirement community. She's been renovating her condo - new rugs, paint, bathrooms. She said after she recovers from her surgery she's going to the kitchen place where I got my cabinets from and she's totally gutting her kitchen. I say, spend the $$ mom and go for it! I laughingly tell her that she's spending my brother's inheritance. LOL
