Electrolux Refrigerator - Pros or Cons
Comments (7)We have also been looking at counter-depth french door refrigerators with icemaker on outside, in SS. There aren't many to choose from. The Electrolux really looks nice on the inside...and supposedly makes more ice...but is indeed coming off the Mexico assembly line. Its place of manufacture is in the door. The Samsung line looks good, but is relatively new. And there have been lots of problems posted. I just "bought" one @ Best Buy during the 20% sale, but the delivery is scheduled for months later and I can get a full refund. It is the RFG237. Jenn-Air holds less and is Whirlpool. KitchenAid seems quite poorly layed out inside. LG...just seen too many problems with service and parts availability. Maytag seems small and poorly layed out. Whirlpool...also small. I may yet opt for something else; maybe not counterdepth. Also when I looked up the User's Manual for the Samsung RFG237, it shows Samsung RFG238 (not even on Samsung's website) which has two icemakers; one in the refrig door and the other in the freezer...so I might try to continue to stretch out the delivery date even more to see what else comes available....See MorePros and cons of Single Door vs. French Door Frig?
Comments (14)I had had sid by sides for years, and recently went to a FD bottom freezer. The frig is more convenient. But I preferred the freezer in the SxS. I find the bottom freezer very difficult to organize. Things just end up piled on top of one another, and its hard to get things arranged to the bins will close. I also went to counter depth this time, and my 36" CD FD holds less than my 33" SxS did. I made it up with a freezer in the basement, but my basement is *very* inconvenient to get to. IMO there are no perfect solutions unless you have a lot of space and $$$. If I had both, I would probably have a 36" all frig and a 24" or 36" all freezer. If the question is just between FD bottom freezer and single door bottom freezer, then I would go with a single door if you have the room for it to open well. The FD reduces the required clearances, but makes door storage less efficient and provides more things to go wrong....See MoreUndercounter refrigerator drawer : pros and cons?
Comments (4)Expensive, yes, power, probably, but I've never heard that they're unreliable. Perhaps that's a function of price, however. I love my drawers, but I"m not using them primarily for beverages. I do have some ale in the bottom drawer, and sometimes opened wine, but cold water, milk, juice, etc., are in the main fridge and we don't waste fridge space on soda pop. Does your wife want custom panels to match your cabinets? That cuts out some of the lower end models. Also consider noise. Perlick has the best reputation for being quiet, and SubZero is close. Those are also the two most expensive. I have Marvel, but they've changed their whole refrigeration line since I bought mine so they don't compare. It's loud compared to Perlick, but had better drawer configuration back then. It isn't a problem because the kitchen is in its own room and isn't a hang out place, but does have a lot of cooking noise. If you have an open plan, and especially are trying to watch a movie or have a romantic conversation in the same room, the noise can be a big issue. Another thing to be aware of, whether drawers or doors, is heat venting. With cabinetry all around it, the heat given off may warm up the drawers. Fine for utensils, not so great for food. Before you decide, try to get to a showroom that has a few models to compare, and bring some bottles and cans or things that are similar sizes, so you can see how they'd fit and function. Your wife might end up thinking a fridge with a door and pull out trays works better....See MorePros/Cons of replacing French Doors with Sliding Glass Doors
Comments (20)I like to use French doors and rarely if ever use sliders, personal preference because I like the way they look and how the hardware looks when closed and the handsets are side-by-side and the hinges are on the edges. Lever hardware is preferable to knob or sliding hardware IMHO, ease of use. Inswing preferable to outswing. One exception to true French doors where both open was last year when I ordered one side operable and the other side fixed, with dummy hardware on the fixed side. This reason was this was a longtime guesthouse bedroom where some guests did not understand the 5 point lock or latches. I would find people added rubber bands to hold the doors closed by binding the handles together, and once found a hook&eye attached to the interior to (unsuccessfully) keep the doors closed. Guests are sometimes older and have enough to get used to in a new place without a lesson on how to close the doors, I want visits to be as stress free as possible (and for me not to worry about water damage if a set of doors went unchecked)....See MoreBuehl
