The fridge goes as in the floorplan, across from the prep sink. This is function. Function trumps looks. The looks will be spectacular either way. Function won't. And yes, it shouldn't be a big deal to move the hookups. A small price to pay for correcting this. At least the number of stools is more accurate. :) The aisle widths are still wrong in the new drawing, and the reason things stick out is that he added 8" overall to the measures. The built-ins will be 25" from the wall, and that's not marked for sure, but it looks like he has 4'8" for the work aisle (too big) and island, and he has an extra 2" on the credenza. It probably doesn't matter if the credenza overlaps the side light, except that it bothers you. There's even an argument to be made for breaking up the grid. But, since the point of the credenza is to delineate the kitchen, having it break into the neighboring space, besides bothering you, is counter productive. You also need a little more margin on either side of the cooktop and sink. 8" minimum, 12" better, 15"-18" best but would probably screw up the rest of the design. Is that a Jenn-Air with integrated downdraft cooktop? Are you sure you want to go this way? I know you don't cook, but you said you wanted to, eventually. With the house shut up tight most of the year, it could get pretty awful without a good vent and cooled make-up air. If you're content with downdraft, please consider getting one of the pop-up ones that go behind the cooktop. That will not only do a better job, it'll be a shield for the little ones you were concerned about. I did a Google search for whitewashed cabinets and all of the pictures were either French Provincial or ugly pickled. Egads!!! As to whether they'd be too light, that's up to your taste. I just like the positive/negative, light/dark, apposition in this design and think it would be great if carried through to the cabinet fronts. It's not like it wouldn't look good in all walnut. I will say, however, that I find dark interiors in Phoenix to be very unsettling. They're fine in New York, but in the Southwest they're just...dark. I love the idea of the dark accent of your walnut, and the quantity will be fine either way, but I don't think it can be too light. :)

Honestly, I'm not sure of anything. I'm having sooooo much trouble finding lighting I really like. This is the first thing that has 'grabbed' me but I really prefer the look of the chrome light over the orb. I'm just afraid it will be too stark with everything else in the room. As for the lighting plan, we are going to have something over the sink, under-counter lighting and a different ceiling mounted light in the other half of the L. I also have two windows and a door that has window panes in the top third. Right now the room is dark because it has wood paneling everywhere, but we are painting that a light color as well. I'm open to other options. Thanks for the input. Keep it coming.

Jade, there aren't any hard rules about pulls and knobs (despite the fact that some people think there are). But there are guidelines, and many of them conflict. One example is the rule of thirds that you mentioned. Another is to ignore the rule of thirds and use the same size pull everywhere, where you use two pulls for drawers wider than a certain width. Everyone does something slightly different with hardware. Personally, I don't like the functionality of knobs or bin pulls - although I love the look - so I picked a pull that comes in multiple lengths and doesn't have "ends" to catch on clothing. I used 6" pulls on my 13"-wide drawers and all doors (mounted vertically, as you said). I used 12" pulls on my 33" sink cabinets, 24" dishwasher panel, and 36" drawers. I will have stacked upper cabinets and will use a very low-profile knob on the top cabinet (mostly for decorative items so my dislike of using knobs isn't a big deal there). I thought about following the rule of thirds for the DW and wider drawers/cabinets, but decided I'd rather have just 2 lengths instead. Echoing what the others have said, that glass shows all the splatters, is a PITA to keep looking clean. Also, as M said, mesh filters, which that glass one has, are a worse choice than baffle filters. I cannot tell what kind of filters the all-metal one has that you show. You want to find a hood with baffle filters. Mesh filters become quickly clogged with grease which blocks the exhaust power, unless you are cleaning the filters constantly. Baffle filters will also need to be cleaned, but not as frequently, and if you do not clean them, it won't block the exhaust. Check out Costco for occasional deals on hoods. Ancona Pro Series Hood at Costco
