I have a Rohl ORB in the kitchen - it has a living finish, so it's worn over the past 6 years. Doesn't bother me in the least and adds to the charm of our new "old" home. I used RH Bistro ORB in the MBath. They are made by Newport Brass. There is no discoloration whatsoever after the same amount of time. Obviously, not a living finish. We have hard water, but deposits have not been a problem. I just clean weekly and remove any I see building up. The powder room is also by Newport Brass in ORB, no problems there either. We're going to put oil rubbed bronze hardware on our wood doors, but we are building a log syled home (not a primitive interior but a more refined farm look). We are putting mostly all pocket doors in, so it'll be whatever the nicest pocket door hardware is. We're still in the process of building, but getting close to being finished. I wasn't trying to discourage anyone from mixing oil rubbed bronze items with chrome, or any other finishes in a room. I mix and match all the time, as I buy what I like when it comes to curtain rods, lights, etc. that I like. It all always works and looks personal and homey. It's sort of like when I enjoy wearing a silk blouse with a pair of jeans. What I meant was if you have a certain shade of ORB on a sink, and that is near another matching sink, or a bathtub, etc. that if you ever need to replace the faucet it may be hard to make them blend to satisfaction. It sure is a shame to feel one has to replace other things not broken if they don't like how the differing finishes work. However, that might not be an issue with many people. And even though that has happened to me before, the chance of ever having that happen is probably low and would happen so far down the road you would want a total change by then anyway. I'm not a matchy matchy person, but when I tried to imagine if I had to mix and match the ORB faucet fixtures I didn't like it. I'm actually considering a vanity light that has oil rubbed bronze even though my faucets are chrome. All the magazine pictures show the vanity light metal matching the faucet. I don't think that is necessary. It all boils down to going with what your gut is telling you what YOU like. You need to feel happy every time you walk in the room. Just double check the warranty on the finish. Some companies won't warrant that. Sandy

Cody, There are so many different ORB finishes out there, so it's hard to recommend a particular brand of paint to replicate what you have. But here's what I did: I did it the hard way- making up my own finish. After I was done someone told me about 'Modern-Masters faux-paints'. BM carries them, but they are expensive- I'm planning on using it for the crown molding in my Master BR. Anyhow, if you have more patience than good sense... Also, keep in mind that there are so many DIFFERENT oil rubbed bronze finishes- some are basically a chocolate brown spray paint (like my cabinet handles), that isn't what I wanted. I used a spare piece from my ORB chandelier and took that with me to the stores to match colours. So, to get MY finish, I spray painted the base a metallic bronzy colour from Canadian Tire. In the AUTOMOTIVE section, you can choose from hundreds of colours. I then sponge painted or if you have a good light touch, I used a small fan brush on black craft paint. Then I very LIGHTLY sprayed from afar so that just little bits settled, with Copper spray paint. Then several coats of spray Varathane. BUT,using Canadian Tire paint is expensive, and I ran out, so then I went to Wal Mart, and found Rustoleum Painters Touch Spray paint. It was half the price for more paint, so even though it wasn't metallic, I found a similar solid colour- CHESTNUT- used that as my base for my next project, and then sponge painted on Venetian Gold craft paint to get the metallic look. Craft paint is $1-$2 bottle (you don't use very much), vs $10 can for the CT spray paint which seems to run out very fast. Then I sponge painted on the black, did the light touch with the copper spray paint, and then also lightly sprayed black spray paint on too. Then, several coats of Varathane. Up to you, if you want glossy or satin. I went for Satin. Be sure to let each layer/step dry before proceeding on to the next step. This isn't like sponge-painting a wall, where sometimes you want the colours to mix. With these colours you'd just get a muddy look. Here's a pic of my stair railing. That bought us some time, as we just repainted, and we may be adding on, so didn't want my old chipped white painted railing, and I didn't want to buy a new railing for a temporary situation.

Hi Mary, It did help. Thanks so much for going through all this trouble for me. I can tell the difference between the two finishes. I could see what you mean about the faucet having a shiny finish and how the pull is more flat. I wish I could find both items in the same color. I'm going to have a 33 inch stainless single bowl. My thought was to put the faucet and the handle in the middle, the soap dispenser to the left and the insta hot to the right. But it might look off balance with the different color. Maybe I should put the faucet, handle and the soap dispenser over to the left and the insta hot far over to the right so that they are not that close to one another. Where do you have your faucet? It looks like you didn't center it. On another note, what color granite do you have? It looks like Giallo Napolean or New Venetian Gold. It's what I'm currently considering. Yours looks beautiful.
