I had a black BR fixture, and wanted it to be verdegris, so I just used craft paints, and it worked great. I think if the surface is rough, it's pretty easy to paint. If it's slick, you'll need to clean with vinegar and maybe even sand or prime. A craft store will have all sorts of paints, some designed to paint metal. You may be able to find a color to your liking. Or even mix a few together to get what you want. They are a few bucks each for small bottles.

There are so many different ORB finishes out there, so it's hard to recommend a particular brand of paint to replicate what you have. But here's what I did:

I did it the hard way- making up my own finish. After I was done someone told me about 'Modern-Masters faux-paints'. BM carries them, but they are expensive- I'm planning on using it for the crown molding in my Master BR.

Anyhow, if you have more patience than good sense...

Also, keep in mind that there are so many DIFFERENT oil rubbed bronze finishes- some are basically a chocolate brown spray paint (like my cabinet handles), that isn't what I wanted. I used a spare piece from my ORB chandelier and took that with me to the stores to match colours. So, to get MY finish,

I spray painted the base a metallic bronzy colour from Canadian Tire. In the AUTOMOTIVE section, you can choose from hundreds of colours. I then sponge painted or if you have a good light touch, I used a small fan brush on black craft paint. Then I very LIGHTLY sprayed from afar so that just little bits settled, with Copper spray paint. Then several coats of spray Varathane.

BUT,using Canadian Tire paint is expensive, and I ran out, so then I went to Wal Mart, and found Rustoleum Painters Touch Spray paint. It was half the price for more paint, so even though it wasn't metallic, I found a similar solid colour- CHESTNUT- used that as my base for my next project, and then sponge painted on Venetian Gold craft paint to get the metallic look. Craft paint is $1-$2 bottle (you don't use very much), vs $10 can for the CT spray paint which seems to run out very fast. Then I sponge painted on the black, did the light touch with the copper spray paint, and then also lightly sprayed black spray paint on too. Then, several coats of Varathane. Up to you, if you want glossy or satin. I went for Satin.

Be sure to let each layer/step dry before proceeding on to the next step. This isn't like sponge-painting a wall, where sometimes you want the colours to mix. With these colours you'd just get a muddy look.

Here's a pic of my stair railing. That bought us some time, as we just repainted, and we may be adding on, so didn't want my old chipped white painted railing, and I didn't want to buy a new railing for a temporary situation.
