Have narrowed paint down...

Well, we went yesterday to pick-out our kitchen paint color. I'm actually pretty mellow about this choice - I don't want to have to repaint anytime soon, but it is just paint, and can very easily be changed if I hate it. I realize that pictures are not very accurate with stuff like this, but I thought I'd just post our 2 choices.

First is Benjamin Moore "Muralo" Sandia - It's the deeper and richer of the 2 colors. A little more contrast with my cabinets I think. To me, it's more in the true beige/tan family.

The other color is also Benjamin Moore, one of their Pottery Barn colors, Coastal Path. It's seems to have more of a greenish tint to me.

Again, I know it's really hard from pictures, but I thought I'd post in case anyone who's really good at this stuff had anything to offer...

Hi there, you're right it is hard to tell from pictures. Each of your samples change color as the sample goes from shadow to light in your images. In these examples I like the bottom example because it is softer looking. I love GW, it is a wonderful resource to discuss design issues. Everyone is so helpful and with very insightful feedback.

Did you get samples to paint up on the walls? I did this and I was so glad I did. I had probably 12-14 variations of color painted on to my wall as I was waiting for different stages of my kitchen remodel. I am glad I took the time. I asked others, I hounded the clerks, I even started mixing my own colors! Each color chapter showed me a new direction. I have a small kitchen with north light from one window and nearby rooms with north light. I ended up with 3 samples that were light almost, grays, but each one was different. One greenish gray, another rose gray, and the other, more of a tan gray. These were so subtle but obvious with the lighting change through the day. I think color was my most difficult decision, cause there are no ugly colors! I ended up with a lovely greenish gray/white that is perfect for my room and my eye.

Hi SusieQ,

It's hard to tell from the pics but my preference is the bottom one. It seems to pull everything together. BM has a free paint sample coupon right now if you want to try them on the wall. Here's the link

Please help me decide which white paint would compliment the wood in my bathroom and kitchen. Thanks, kimberlykb, for the bump. I know how hard it is to offer specific color advice without attached pics, so I didn't anticipate lots of replies. I held out hope that some might be familiar enough with these paint colors to comment on whether they saw them as compatible. We've had to move out of our home because all the bedrooms had to be emptied for ww/carpet removal and installation of new wood floors. We only get in the house at night to check on progress. Between the lack of natural light and the disarray on the main floor because of construction, I haven't been able to get helpful new photos to post. But one thing I discovered just today is that the P&F door sample I have is not the close match to White Dove that I thought it was when I matched it up against the paint chip. When I put it up against larger samples it reads closer to BM White Chocolate. I much prefer the White Chocolate with Simply White for trim. They both read warm white to me and seem to work better than White Dove w/ Simply White. White Dove's grey tones looked a bit dingy when they were side by side. I'm still liking Carrington Beige next to the cab and granite samples and plan to use it throughout the main floor instead of another white. Would love to hear if anyone here has used Carrington Beige.

We will be replacing the countertop with new laminate, so I'll be eliminating any yellow undertones in that. Just for comparison, here are the samples as compared to the paint in the adjoining dining room/living room. They don't look dark at all when you see them like this. I took the picture at a funny angle to avoid as big of a shadow, but it gives you the general idea. I don't want it to seem identical to that room but I don't want it to be clash if it doesn't need to. I think I'll pick two of them and paint some posterboard and see what I think. Pashmina only our bathroom has definitely grown on me after leaving the sample there overnight! Current plan is Pashmina for master sweet and half bath then edgecomb everywhere else. I’d love to do my dining room darker but it is so open and there is no trim separating it from my kitchen so I think they need to be the same color. A little torn still on kids rooms. I’d love to do something deeper/warmer than edgecomb there but pashmina may darken it too much.

Thanks for your opinions guys. It's funny, but even with the poor quality pictures, it seems that the 2nd color (Pottery Barn color) is more popular. My husband and my son both prefer that, even though I was leaning towards the other. Thanks for the photo pamike - I like how it looks in the photo with less contrast between the light cabinets and the walls. I think I'm going to get samples of each color to try on a wall.

I prefer Coastal Path as well. The first picture comes off a bit pinky/peachy, and I don't love it with your other colors--although it may look different in real life, so take that with a grain of salt.

I totally agree with enduring that you need to get a sample up on your walls to see how it looks in your light. I'm always floored by how much colors can change in situ. I usually start with the color I think I like, but then also look at neighboring colors--choosing a green, I would look at colors a bit bluer and yellower than my first choice, as well as lighter or darker, and brighter or grayer. I am often surprised by what ends up working.
