does anyone have python soapstone?

Hi all -

I have been trying to decide what kind of soapstone to get - does anyone have python? What do you like about it? Is it hard? Really dark?

I want a very "quiet", very black stone, that is of the harder varieties.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I had Cbra. Very hard, no scratching, no chipping, no veining, matte black when oiled. Faint grey speckles.

I tried to get Python from M. Teixeira. They no longer have it (on the west coast). The sample piece they sent me stood up well to my tests. I empathize with you. The SS decision was the hardest one I had to make in my kitchen remodel.

At slab yard yesterday we saw Soapstone Clasico - one sample was "honed" with the smooth surface and color change with water applied that I expected and have seen on all other soapstones I've looked at (beautiful!), but 2cm thickness rather then 3 (would that matter much?). They also had a Satin finish which felt textured like leathered granite, which I loved, and a nice even greenish color, which I also loved. BUT it was unchanged by water, the water beaded up on it and clearly had some kind of surface treatment (you could see streaks down the side of the slab). However the person showing it to us could not explain. Anyone know if this might be sealed or treated in some way that may change the maintenance or "patina" effect of soapstone I think I will love? Soapstone seams in Python

Another possibility for a long island...For our 9 foot island, we decided to embrace the seams and designed the island with two contrasting slabs at each end and seamed together with butterfly inlays. My photo isn't the best, but you'll see the concept. We bought our soapstone countertops from Bucks County and I can't say enough good things about their fabrication and installation. (I believe they purchase the slabs from Texiera) We have a couple small seams in venata soapstone in other parts of the kitchen and do not see them. We've only had our countertops for two weeks and love looking at them and touching them. Hope you enjoy yours, too. Here is a link that might be useful:

I have Brazilian Black from M. Teixeira. I love it. I wanted a very black "quiet" stone also and was a bit freaked when it had veins, etc. but it is gorgous and I LOVE it. (I had to pick from a 5" X 5" sample as we live 8 hours from nearest warehouse.) From a distance it looks black and then up close there are veins and green undertones and grey spots. As soon as we get a few more things tied up I will post pictures. If you go to the coversation about Brazilian Black vs Beliza that I had on this forum ( put soapstone in the search box) you will find some pics that people posted for me of those two stones. The Brazilian Black is also one of the hardest stones. Anyway love my soapstone-fabricator was a pain. Be SURE and get someone who knows what they are doing. Best of luck!!!
