at 5' that would be way too high for me. I don't want it any higher than I am. the top of it. I prefer it a bit lower than that even.

the shelf that my microwave sits on is 56" from the floor - so the door and stuff is even higher. It's a good height for me, but I am 5'6.5"

I just tried crouching down a little for you and it still seems okay. Do you use the microwave a lot? I don't. maybe it would be too high if you really rely on it all the time.

you will however love your double ovens at that height if you do it! I do!

desertsteph - yes, ideally I would prefer the MW to be lower. But I REALLY want my double ovens too! If I could just find a way to get both... ;-)

momof3kids_pa - Thanks for the picture. That does help me visualize it better. Unfortunately, somebody uses the MW almost every day. That's why I nixed DH's idea of maybe putting it in our pantry cabinet. I don't want to have to open a cabinet every time it's used nor did I want it taking up valuable pantry space. It's so limited already.

Anybody have some alternative ideas?

The base of mine, well, the bottom of the DOOR to the microwave, is 47". I think 55" would be OK. I'm 61", also.

It's not ideal, but tolerable I think.

hey sounds fine, i'm 5-3 and my microwave is at 50 inches at bottom- could easily be at 55 and i'd have no problems

Our microwave sits on an open shelf that is 55" high. The shelf itself is 20" deep and the MW gets pushed to the back from use. Even with a 24" counter under it so you have to lean in it is not in any way too high. I've never even thought about it, even when cleaning the inside of it. I am 5'4" (barely). We only use our MW for leftovers and snacks, no cooking.

I think for now I'll just plan on putting the MW above the ovens. It'll be workable, but not ideal. Still, this way I get my ovens. Yay. :-)

You'll be fine. And before I remodeled, my microwave was higher (not sure how high). It was fine. I did it lower int he remodel mainly so I'd have a better reach into the cabinets above the oven stack.

Double ovens are worth a little stretch. And tippytoeing to reach keeps your calves shapely.
