Hating my backsplash... Options?
Comments (42)I have to agree with you and say the backsplash needs to go. Don't worry, these things happen. We tried to keep our tiled kitchen floor, but once the granite went in, we knew it had to go so our carpenter ripped out the old floor after the cabinets were in and put down a new one. We are thrilled with the new floor. We have New Venetian too and we love it. When it came to the backsplash we wanted to granite to be the star and have a more subdued backsplash. Yet I wanted some interest there because I will be looking at it a lot so I added simple off white subway tiles with a bead detail. I added a little color with a tumbled onyx frame detail over the range. I think the NVG looks great with your cabinets....See MoreHelp - I hate my new backsplash!!!
Comments (12)Don't know how to help without pictures. From all that I have read here, the BS decision is the #1 decision nightmare. Feeling your pain here. In my case the actual tile came in the wrong color and crackle finish. My contractor did install it (knowing full well he may have to tear it all out) but with a change of grout color, it looks warmer. It actually looks like I knew what the heck I was doing :) He did have to rip some tile out around the garden window, b/c he not like how that running board looked, but there was no damage to the cabs. A good contractor will have the right tools to remove you tile carefully if that's the way you want to go. Take a deep breath, have a glass of wine, and don't rush into a hasty decision. Best of luck to you!...See MoreHate my new backspalsh! Please suggest a backsplash
Comments (20)Beautiful kitchen (and I like the backsplash also :) The photos of "before" have the UCL on, which shed a lovely warm light. The backsplash is a bit grayer than white subways would have been, but I would love to see if it is warmer with the lights on. Agree with living with it (I did this and after 5 years finally decided to change up my cabs, but by then I was absolutely sure!!) and trying the whiter grout. I like the darker grout because it defines the shape of the tile, but a whiter grout may be more pleasing to you and give you back the warmth I think you are after. Also, try different accessories (towels, etc) after you move in and see what that does for you. I agree with what others have said about waiting, and that ripping it out before you have had a chance to try a few things may just be a very costly process without a better end result....See MoreI hate my backsplash
Comments (9)Can we see the full kitchen? The mosaic that you have installed if often chosen when one can not find a match for the counter. People think that by putting all the same colors Of the counter, it a sure bet. But instead, What you have are two busy elements competing with each other. Again, let’s see a picture further back, we might be able to come up with ideas. In the meantime, start saving up for a replacement. You are not alone in this situation. Many of us have had to to a redo right after we installed a backsplash. In my case my brown counter was fighting with the white if my cabinets. One would think the answer was to put in a white BS since it has worked for others. Not in my case. I had it torn out immediately, but it took me 6 months of visiting every tile shop to get a tile that would transition between the white and the brown. We also changed our light bulbs to soften the white cabinets. Cabinets are darker brown in person. But, I went from hating my kitchen to loving it all because I found the right tile. This happened to be a Gracia Rixi tile in cream. But this particular cream matches the light color in my granite, which was key to making it all work....See Moreclarygrace
