Caesarstone- London Grey Installed!

My photos suck, my kitchen is a ways from being done, but I promised photos once the counters were in for those that wanted to see London Grey installed. First, a gratuitous shot of our daughter in our new Whitehaven sink:

HI! I just stumbled across this post and I was set on using the cambria torquay in my kitchen too. But last week when I started looking around again I found out that ceasarstone came out with some great new colors. London Gray, frosty carrina. I have seen the frosty carrina in person and it looks nice. I am waiting to see the london gray. Have you gotten pricing ideas? I know that the cambria pricing was a bit on the high end. Can't wait to hear what you end up with!

I posted a response here way back in 2008....just a follow up, 10 years after installation. Still love the Cambria Quarry series countertops we put in (kitchen and both bathrooms.) I've only used a wet soft cotton towel followed up with a dry one for most cleaning, it gets all the grease and grit/dough/etc off. Once in a while we'll use Windex. No chips so far, and the kitchen counters get very heavy use. There are a one or two very tiny scratches in the main prep area, mostly where dough is worked, probably from the metal scraper or some appliance getting dragged across it. But you really cannot see them, the pattern covers it well, even in full light. The only other sign of wear I've noticed is a slight matting or loss of sheen in the heavily used areas compared to the rest of the counters. But it doesn't bother us at all and again is hardly noticeable. The master bath counter gets exposed to a ton of stuff and looks brand new even after super heavy use. Can give this stuff my highest recommendation if you're considering it. Also, for prices....check out Costco (we bought ours thru them and got the best price.)

Following up with a few more details.. Counter edge is Eased 1.5 inch thick. Quartz thickness was 2cm. Fabricators built up the edge to 1.5 inches with mitred corners. The mitre cut hides the seam totally. In CA this is a standard process. 2cm Ceasarstone will not properly cover the 5/8 inch plywood rough top the cabinet maker installs. I almost went with an ogee edge since the house and kitchen is traditional style. But I thought it might be too busy for shaker. The eased edge works well with shaker style. I chose ogee for the bath vanity where the cabinets and crown are more detailed. It fits perfectly in the bath. Or if you have a center island ogee is a nice choice on the island with eased edge on the perimeter. Alot of people opt for that... The floor color is Natural Timber glazed chestnut. I used a dark brown grout but should have gone 1 darker to espresso or possibly black. The grout lines wound up lighter than the tile even though it looked like a good match before install. I went with 1/16th on the spacing, however the box recommends no closer than 1/8th. 1/8th grout lines are wide and the floor will look less like hardwood but I'm not sure if ignoring the directions will compromise my floor in any way down the road. I had the installer avoid "stair step" install method and tried to achieve random length install to mimic hardwood. Essentially when he got to a wall and had to cut a piece I had him start on the other side with the cut piece to achieve a random look. It worked for the most part but this process is tricky. It is better to be there the entire time they are installing so you can make the decisions. I much prefer real wood. The white oak with dark stain pictured all over houzz are the most beautiful kitchen floors but with a 3 yr old it doesn't seem practical, I think it would have gotten destroyed. The wood plank tile is a nice alternative and the cleanup is very easy. Alot of people have actually mistaken it for solid wood. The finish is a matte. Every crumb shows but I'm assuming this is the case with any dark brown floor. One of the keys is finding the tile that is 48 in long, this is the same size a lot of solid wood planks come in. The tile that is 24 in long leaves too many grout lines all over the floor and compromises the wood look. The long plank tiles create some issues with install though, it is wise to have someone who has installed these before. The 24 inch pieces are easier to install. Thank you Sina. Although I dislike grout or cleaning it, I’m hesitant to go with the LG full slab because, although it is the more practical route for me, it feels like a very safe (and boring ??) route. I’m not trying to be super trendy but a part of me feels it should have a little more pizzaz by adding that herringbone pattern......ahhhh. Bouncing back and forth. It doesn’t help that I haven’t seen many pictures of people using LG as a backsplash...maybe it’s not a popular decision for a reason?!?? Sorry! I’m just thinking out loud.....

The walls are Dorian Gray, a Sherwin Williams color, and the "truest" gray that we found after trying 20 or so. I think the counters will pop a bit more once we get our white subway tile backsplash up.

I love seeing the CS installed. I am pretty torn by these newest colors. I had Raven in our MA BA and I admit that the counters were truly worry-free. Am definiltey contemplating the CS counters for our kitchen reno that should be starting this week. When you have more pics, will post more??? Would love to see your pretty kitchen as it evolves!

Is that a white Whitehaven sink? I have white cabinets and I'm thinking about LOndon Gray also. I am trying to pick a sink (tonight) and I'm debating the whitehaven vs. the fireclay by Shaws/Rohl. I would love to hear how you chose! And your daughter is adorable!

Your DD is a sweetheart! I love the pic of her in the sink. We have a Whitehaven that should be operational on Monday. How I wish I had it when my DGS was a baby and toddler. We used to bathe him in an antique porcelain sink on the kitchen counter when he was with us.

I love the whole tone of your kitchen. Cabs, counter, and paint combo. It is so pretty. I can't wait to see pics after the bs is in!

Thank you so much for your pictures. We are also doing a white subway tile and was debating between LG , Lagoon or Pental Carrara.

Can't wait to see it with your white subway backsplash. :)

Your daughter is adorable in that outfit and sink :) The kitchen is beautiful. I do love that London Gray. What do you think it would be like pairing it with Blue pearl on my island and the outside being the London Gray on med/ dark cabs?
