Granite color to go with maple colored cabinets

Hi,

I have maple cabinets and hardwood floors. I currently have corian countertops (see attached pic). I was thinking of upgrading to granite to add some pizzaz to the kitchen - looks very washed out right now.

I went to a granite place last weekend and got some samples - New venetian gold, santa cecelia and giallo vicenza. Now, I'm having second thoughts abt those colors - i'm wondering if NVG and santa cecelia will give it the same washed out effect.

Can you suggest some granite colors that will look good in my kitchen? I'm not looking for something too exotic (out of my budget). I was trying to not do something dark because its a little dark kitchen with black appliances and dark countertops would make it too dark. But, if you've got some light/medium granite color suggestions, I'm all ears.

You may want to consider uba tuba which I have seen and I think it would look good on maple. You may be surprised at how it will pop. I had thought the same thing when I was looking for a light colored countertop to go on dark cabinets. Ended up going with black soapstone and love the dark color. Also the uba tuba is one of the lower priced granites. You may want to check it out. It would also look good with a variety of backsplashes. Good luck.

It just so happens we are building a new home with natural maple cabinets and brazilian cherry floors. We have looked at this combination at a few open houses recently and, in our opinion, it looks great. Our only reservation is moving furniture and rugs around while the cherry "turns" into its beautiful color. We are going to go with a pretty dark counter (not matching the floor) and tie them together with the backsplash.

Not a fan of this granite but willing to live with it IF I can get lighter painted cabinets. Need to replace all doors as some are broken. Hardware too. Will hire a pro to paint. Will change wall color too, once cabinet color is sorted out. Kitchen faces east with lots of windows, so very bright/light. Lots of ceiling lights. Walnut trim throughout the house which is staying. Tile floor is beige/sand color. Doors have been routed in a u-shape to accept hinges. Can’t change the hardware and keep the doors without major woodwork repairs to each door. New doors will allow more options. What color to paint cabinets first, then walls. Buttercream? Off White? Again, the countertops are very dominant. Suggestions?

So you want to remove your old cabinets and reuse the granite? You would have to keep the exact dimensions of the existing cabinets in order for it to possibly work. I would check with your cabinet maker to make sure it's doable. I had to google Lapidus granite as I wasn't familiar with the color. It looks like it's shown with medium brown or cherry cabinets quite a bit because it's such a warm (and pretty) color. There are some pictures with white cabinets but I don't like them as much as stained or natural wood.

The combination of backsplash and counter strikes me as rather more modern but the bit of cabinet that I can see looks more "country" or rustic. I think I would consider painting the cabinets navy (if that will work with the rest of your house and the amount of light in the kitchen), and get sleeker knobs and pulls. If you decide to go with a white, make sure you paint a large sample to be sure it is the correct white to go with the grays (one with more of a gray or blue undertone, not yellow or pink)

I have Colonial Dream granite, it is lighter, but it has lots of specks of dark brown and redish tones, I remember there were some in the granite yard that had more dark colors than ours, but it has great movement and goes with a variety of cab colors, and shouldn't be too dark. It has movement if you like that sort of thing. We are going to post some pics of our finished kitchen soon, just need to do some final clean up.

sis2two - I've been thinking about uba tuba as well. I may need to get a sample and see how it looks in real life.

jaimeecbbc - I love granite with movement. It may be a little too expensive for my budget but I'd love to see pics of your kitchen. Do you have maple cabinets as well?
