Too Funny! I can't be the only one....!

Or can I? I have been staring at this work in progress for a couple of weeks now and find that I am becoming attached to the color of unprimed drywall. That kind of taupe-y grey actually is growing in me. I may have convinced myself that this is the perfect paint color for my cherry cabs and grey counters. Am I nuts? Or just that desperate for it to be finished?

I don't have any dry wall, but the color of my old (mid 19th-c) brown coat plaster is one of my faves. I would love to find a paint match for it.

My problem is that it's not really a single color but a rough-surfaced, pointilistic melange of several shades of brown, grey and taupe, with little speckles of black. I have trialed literally dozens of paint shades, including full-sprectrum colors, and never found anything close enough. I am thinking of declaring it to be like old, somewhat worse for the wear, plastered walls of an Italian palazzo and just living with it, cracks and all.

If it makes you feel any saner... I had someone tell me my PAINTED wall color looks like drywall color!

Yes 200 containers was a lot to start (addicting) with but I might top that this year lol I still have some trading left in me to do and then I go outside...."well i might as well try some native flowers there to add some color" or "well there's a space to put something else". I also told myself "no more weeding hills" but here I was weeding the one hill to try and stick some Oxeye daisies and Joe Pye Weed on. Last year was planning to take over the hills/gardens from the weeds and revitalize them with new seedlings and plants. This year it is about filling in, rearranging, making a few veggie raised beds, and..just more flowers. Plus theirs friends and family to give too! Many seedlings are spread throughout the hills and gardens(I can't wait to see the potential of them next year) but I also did lose some of them because I wasn't quite sure of growing conditions or I was hopeful that delphiniums would survive on hills with weeds...but lesson learned in a big way!!! sandyslopes, I have not attempted foxglove because I've been afraid honestly. I read an article once floating on the internet with several accounts from "real" people about allergic reactions and bad experiences. have you experienced anything harmful about the plant while you've worked with it? I love the blooms....especially Alba ~Michael P.S. I would also love to know the name of that yarrow in the pic!!! (?) I also WSed white yarrow which I cant wait to see bloom! It is one of my favorites!

I received my T&M catalogue as well and that same day tried to order some of the "last chance" items and some of the trial varieties/special offers for 2010 on the flap of the very last page. I used the item # in the catalogue and if that didn't work, I did a search based on the description with the same results. In some cases, the item # was not recognized and in others, the price was the same as the catalogue but when I added it to my cart, the price was higher (?). Has anyone else tried to order from the 2010 catalogue yet? Did you have the same kind of problem? I guess I'll try to call the Company but ususally like to just use the web. Thanks.

Thank you so much, Susan, Socks, Lynn and Laser. You are very wise and compassionate folks and your responses have brought about a true healing effect. I'm not as angry now as before, nor puzzled, and have bypassed "how could they." They are merely lazy and totally self-absorbed. I will soon and decline the invitation, as I'm convinced it was perfunctory. I've come a long way since last September 4 and no longer permit anyone treat me undkindly. They may attempt it but I don't have to stick around for the abuse. I hope DH can see me as I continue to grow and stretch and expand my interests and abilities. He would be amazed and proud, and I feel really good about myself. It's been a few months since my last meltdown so I'm hopeful of making it through this holiday weekend in one piece. All my efforts now go into meeting new people, making friends, and enjoying my hobbies. And I have the time to invest in things I've always wanted to do, like volunteer, as well as seizing the myriad opportunities before me to do anything I want. Again, my profound thanks to all of you. Check the colors against your furniture and such. If you are starting with the walls first then I suggest you do like I did. After painting my 25"walls by myself, yeah really scary up there, I did the following: We purchased a rug that had all our favorite colors and put it in our family room as the anchor. I went to store and picked one of those pallet cards that gives a group of colors that go together. Mine are the Biltmore Estate colors. All my favorites are there with even a few I would never have thought of. And it turns out all the colors in the pallet are actually in the rug we got. It took a few months before we realized that there were colonial blue areas in the rug that actually matched the blue we used in one room. I used the neutral tan for my entry and stairwell, used a lighter version of the tan for my kitchen, family and hallways. I used the red in my livingroom, hunter green in dining and the blue in my upstairs bonus room. I just did my guest bath using the same blue in the rug andthe bonus room and it is actually my unexpected color in the house. It matches all the other colors but you would never really think to see it. But together they all match really well. I carry my colors in my purse and use them all the time when I am out and about and tempted to get something for the house. So pick that tan and find a pallet that goes with it, it really helped me a lot.

My foyer, laundry room, and closet are painted with PPG's (?) gypsum in eggshell. Next paint job in the rest of the house will be painted gypsum. Remember the light sources affect the color.
So FWIW, I don't think you're nuts.

The thing I noticed was that sheetrock was so much nicer than the brown insulation we had up for a month while stalled in our project (architect made a mistake, so had to wait for redrawn plans and re-inspection). Anything is improvement from that, so I get how it can look decent. I do like how it looks so fresh and clean when it is all spackled and ready to go. If you like the true color of it, take a piece and color match it to see what shade of paint it would be...

We have two shades of grey in our kitchen. The walls are just a bit darker then the ceiling and a long hallway off the kitchen is just a little darker then the kitchen. They are so close that we usually have to tell people that they are different shades of grey. When we tell them then they then notice. it gives a feeling of height to the kitchen and depth to the hallway.

Validation! Yes! When I told my teenaged daughter, she said, "Mawwwwwmmmmm- Ohmygawd, you are such a loser!" She laughed when she said it, but I think she was only kidding a little bit. You guys are the best!

Sherwin Williams Loggia -- nice grayish taupe. You might check it out. It is the color of walls in my kitchen & bead board backsplash in my laundry room.

Debbie, you are not the only one! I too liked the color of the drywall so much I ended up putting in stacked stone in quartzite that was the same tone. I kept telling my DH that I really just liked the drywall. That's what happens when "anything" is an improvement!

If you like drywall, check out cement board, then just try to duplicate that look in a finished version. Sigh....
