Suggestions for BS??? pics

Hi again!

I posted my pics earlier this week, with the backsplash I liked. DH isn't wild about it, wanted something with more color.

I'm stumped!! Today I read a thread on here and discovered the "Fire & Ice" backsplash. I really like it, but don't know

if it's too much with my granite. DH loves it, especially the idea of popping out a tile or 2 and substituting glass.

It's a little more than I wanted to spend, but after the car broke down yesterday to the tune of $1700, it's probably not going

in for a couple of months anyway! I'd rather wait and get something great! I'm open to other suggestions, if anyone has them!!

I have a similar color cabinet and am also looking for a BS....I like the glass. BTW....how do you post pictures on this site? I am having so much trouble, would love if someone could give me directions so I can post my new kitchen. thanks

I love Fire and Ice but I think it's more gray in tone then your counter. On my monitor, your granite appears to have more of a honey color. Does your stone have some light blueish tone that it looks like I see?

Hi all, Thanks for your honest feedback on the pictures I posted. I just don't know what to do. The taupe tiles on the board do come in the 2.5 x 5 size, but they may be too dark for my kitchen. Marble mini-brick subway tiles (similar to Alku's) look to white/cool for the granite. I will also continue to hunt for a soft gray field tile to see if that would work. I can see what you mean about some of the accent tiles looking blue. I am thinking that instead of multicolor accent tiles I posted, I might go with a single color (a grayish glass tile like the ones on the sample board. By the way, those glass tiles on the board are about $130/ft - rather ridiculous, if you ask me). Charlikin, no decision yet on the paint. I am leaning towards BM's Wedgewood Gray, which is slightly darker than what I currently have in the dining area. Goodness, I just realized that that paint color is more grayish blue and not green at all! Good luck with your search! OK, it looks like I am back to square one for paint colors! By the way, DH is actually color-blind, so he is no help at all! I will continue my search and will let you know what I find! Thanks again!

Hello Everyone, No one shares my vision that the white would work, that doean't surprise me. However when I look at the third pic above (the pic of the eat-in dining area, there is a sample of white glass tiles on the counter. I think it looks great! It looks so bright and fresh!) I'm not into neutral, I like contrast and I like color. My cabs are obviously traditional, but my syle is moving more modern. I'm trying to take my traditional looking kitchen and move it more modern. buffetgirl - I really don't like brown! LOL! I am trying to work with a situation where "If I knew then, what I know now", I'd do things differently. I've thought about brown instead of black in the backsplash and it doesn't do anything for me, I don't want more brown, I want less brown. Sherrman - while others like it, I don't. It is floor tile and not designed by me. The tile installer picked it and I went with it at the time. Also, due to the new granite, there is about a 1" gap between them. Annz - not changing any of the big stuff, cabs, floors etc. Just can't cost justify it. House is only 5 years old, We built it. We have about 39 sq feet of backsplash to do, Dh and I are discussing the balance issue that you mention. Yes, I want to make sure that it will look good. Thanks for bringing it up! Busybee3 - all green? Well...I thought about that...but just feel that it would be too much green. My walls are green, my countertop on the island is green...I just thought an all green backsplash would just be too much green. Plus I really like the idea of bringing over some white to brighten and de-neutralize the space. Auntjen - Oh...I am so happy that you think it will work!! I don't feel so alone! LOL!! Good for you guys, Annie. I've so glad to see another refurbished kitchen that retain some of its history instead of sending it all to the landfill. And I love your dresser island with that great tile! Actually, your original simple backsplash tile design sounds very good against the richness of the counter and liveliness of the island tile, which I truly believe will eliminate any possible locker-room effect. As pointed out, the danger at this point seems to be in possibly fighting them instead of setting them off. I also really like your wall color, and a tile that tends to echo that might look very handsome. I don't know if it would work for you, but our Lowes has a glazed tile in a sort of caramel color with a bit of depth and irregularity to the glaze that struck me as making a very nice background to the rest of the picture wherever I've imagined it.

Thanks for the feedback -- @kmeemsie, I think I would match the celtic knot to the tile, but I am waiting to see the American Olean field tile colors in person. (I might do a creamy subway with a celtic knot in a sage-y color, something subtle but a slight contrast.) Or should I go straight subway and skip the accent tile? @regmoses -- thanks for sending me to your thread. It was helpful to read the comments you got. I loved the link to the arts and crafts subway! I am also open to other suggestions -- anyone else have any ideas? Thanks!!

Med22 - no, they are still in the basement! I think they will be going in on Sunday, I'll post some pics. I'm afraid we might have to move one a little - we had the electrician rough it out before cabs, and decided at the last minute to extend the peninsula countertop 10". The matching chandelier shipped Monday after being out of stock forever, so hopefully they will all be in.

remodelfla - I don't think there are blues...there are some peachy tones to it. Maybe I'll take your 1st suggestion and try a subway-shaped travertine. DH just wanted color glass somehow...maybe instead of the brown inserts I could find an amber-ish tone that might work???

Fire and Ice can make a real statement, but the colors have to coordinate just right with your cabinets and backsplash. I have and love subway tiles. I like your above choice with the idea of putting in inserts to make your DH happy.
I love looking at people's kitchens who have taken risks with their backsplash. But for me, safer and neutral works best.

remodelfla - I was thinking along the lines of the 2nd, but might be too modern. I'll have to hit the tile place again at lunch tomorrow and keep researching!

marble.com....do you sell the backsplashes as well? You actually installed my granite countertop!! Golden Valley. I love the look of that, very similar to my orginal pick, just trying to find something with a little more color, but i may end up going this route. Like ellendi, I tend to gravitate towards the safe neutrals!!!

Not to hijack the thread, but that's wonderful to know we installed your granite! Hope you're enjoying it! And yes we sell this but i'm not advertising anything, just giving advice & help ;)

Be sure to take pictures once it's all done and show us the backsplash combo you end up doing, i'm sure it will look just stunning against the Golden Valley!
