I like it, especially the dresser with tile top, very unique!

I would go for the white backsplash with metal insets, because the (gorgeous) mosaic would compete too much with that cool island top, IMO. Even if you removed the dresser for some reason, I'd still use the mosaic as an accent strip or something rather than a backsplash because your cabinets and countertops are fairly busy and the mosaic would just be too much. It's pretty, but really needs a plain background to pop against, and you don't have that.

Many people use and love tumbled marble... it's a well love material because it works for so many kitchens and different tastes. I plan on using glass or glass/slate/marble/stone because I love the opalescace of it. I would look for a mosaic that had maybe some of that cool pumpkin/persimmon color you have in your island. What a great way to repurpose a treat! I'm in the middle of such a project and am big into repurposing if it works for your space.

Oh my goodness! What a transformation! The paint color is divine, I *love* the island, and the pantry door is just perfect! What a great job you did. Awesome!

I like the glass mosaic backsplash personally, but I think any of your ideas would be lovely. (I'm with you on the tumbled marble, though. I don't care for it.)

I think both options would be OK. I'd be inclined to go for the metaal inserts, though, due to the busy-ness of the granite and the mosaic on the island.

That island is an AWESOME idea, BTW. I may have to steal that for mine...

The glass is pretty cool, but too much pattern competing w/ countertop and island top (just an opinion-i'm not a designer). I vote for the white tile and the ORB inserts. Nice use of botox by the way. What is that paint color? It is yummy...

Someone had subway size, light carmel color glass tiles that I think would look really good.

I agree with eandhl, something in a light tan would look really good on your backsplash. To me, it looks like you used octagonal tiles on the dresser, which I love. I think that sheet tile on your backsplash would be too busy, but a tan/caramel color would look really nice up there. It would accent the lighter colors of your countertops, and coordinate with the tile on the island. If you wanted to get really fance, you might run a 1 or 2 deep row of those small varied tiles around the backsplash, but I don't think you need it. :)

I love your island! What a great way to repurpose a piece. I may have to steal that idea. I love the mosaic, but agree that it may be too much with the island top. I'm with eandhl on this one a colored (tan or honey) glass subway may be the perfect choice.

the Kitchen looks great. agree with others that the mosaic is too busy, but I like the idea of a glass tile. Perhaps the horizontal band you mentioned, combined with subway tiles or oblong tiles placed vertically all in a row.

I see a shimmery field tile, champagne, or white, with a band of red (to pull off of the red in your island top).

Good for you guys, Annie. I've so glad to see another refurbished kitchen that retain some of its history instead of sending it all to the landfill. And I love your dresser island with that great tile!

Actually, your original simple backsplash tile design sounds very good against the richness of the counter and liveliness of the island tile, which I truly believe will eliminate any possible locker-room effect. As pointed out, the danger at this point seems to be in possibly fighting them instead of setting them off. I also really like your wall color, and a tile that tends to echo that might look very handsome. I don't know if it would work for you, but our Lowes has a glazed tile in a sort of caramel color with a bit of depth and irregularity to the glaze that struck me as making a very nice background to the rest of the picture wherever I've imagined it.

Great job! I would go simpler, but I'm partial as I just put in a tan subway tile myself.

By the way, my brother is in need of an island, but wants to spend as little as possible but still have it look cool- I'm going to forward him a picture of your dresser/island- he has done tiling before, and it's just such a neat idea!!

I'd do a simple tan tile with an occasional copper one thrown in here and there.

Thank you everyone. The wall paint is BM Dorset Gold. We bought the dresser at least 15 yr.s ago and it has been around the whole house before landing in the kitchen. I painted it BM Black Bean Soup, screwed tile backer board to the top, tiled it and edged it with a simple trim piece painted to match. The top drawer holds corkscrews and such, the middle holds wine and the bottom holds kids' school art work. Question for y'all about the tan or caramel tile: I was thinking a biscuit color, but would that be too light? If the whole thing were glass subways, would I run the risk of that being too contemporary? TIA
