Almost done - Need BS Help!! -- progress pics incl

We're getting there! Cabinets, counters, sink, appliances are all in and functional -- everything is just lovely!! We are down to the last decisions: paint, lighting fixtures, and backsplash.

I chose BM Greenbrier Beige for the kitchen walls (they're currently SW Fen, which you can still see on the walls), and SW Svelte Sage for the nearby powder room (which was part of the reno, with same cabs as kitchen.)

So, here's the progress (pardon the bad photos -- naked light bulbs do not a pretty picture make!)

Here's the Cafe Brown Silgranit Diamond Supersingle (with Kohler Simplice faucet) -- which I promised another user I would post.

Now for the next decision -- backsplash. I love that the kitchen is sleek and calming at this point, so I don't want something very busy. I am thinking of a crackle (or plain handpainted) subway tile with some sort of textured accent (I have my eye on the American Olean Celtic Knot border in the link below). However, I am completely open to suggestion! (except that I am not a fan of the tumbled/tuscan look) Any backsplash gurus out there? :)

I adore the one you have picked out! The Celtic knot is classic, understated, but rich and tasteful. I also recently installed cherry cabinets and don't have backsplash or countertop selected. Plenty of ideas but no commitments. I will link you a tile I am drooling over that I haven't shared yet. Actually, two. I don't know how to upload pics so I'll link:)

Ooh...I love the Celtic knot! I think it would pair beautifully with a creamy subway tile or even just a brick tile in a 4x8. Would the Celtic knot be the color you posted or would you try to match the field tile? I love the beading on the edge and think it would really keep the vibe you're going for. Love the kitchen!

What gorgeous colors you have going one there! The wall color really, really compliments the furniture finish. And as others have said, that lamp is super fabulous. I'm not a huge fan of the painting (though I do like the other art you have up) but if DD loves it, then by all means hang it!!! I also think that your furniture choice is great as far as longevity. Simply by changing wall color, bedding, art and accessories, that's a room that can grow with her till she leaves for college. My DD redid her bedroom in a similar all-vintage style last year. She's now a teenager, and constantly changing her idea of what she likes, and just last week she did a re-do of her room by changing out the vintage art for a 1960's "modern" poster, trading the nightstand for a clean-lined parsons table, swapping the desk chair for an Alvar Aalto chair we had in the basement, and changing some lighting and bedding. Now the room has a much more sophisticated and "Apartment Therapy" kind of vibe... but she KEPT the major components of furniture, which are vintage french-provincial similar to yours. So, even if your DD's tastes change as she grows up, I'll bet that great furniture will last :)

Masonite is on all of these 1980's houses. I'm told it can last *if* it was installed and maintained properly, which most weren't. I knew when I purchased this house 3 yrs ago that I'd have to replace it all, so no surprises there. Plus the wood soffets/fascia rot over time. At least I know it will all look good, the product will last 50 yrs and now my house is also wrapped in tyvek, which was not 'code' in 1988. Boy am I helping to stimulate the US economy though! :-O

cindaintx, Wow, thanks for noticing the windows. Quite a lot of thought needs to go into these things, doesn't it? We brought home a couple of tile boards, and think a 3X6 tile would fit there. Maybe a 1/4 round on top?? It will be a few months before we do anything. We really like the look of NO BS, and since we don't actually live at this home, we can be careful not to get the walls dirty. We'll see, and I'll be sure to post, when anything else happens! Window treatments are next! Probably just horizonal mini-blinds. Can't put a valance on that window because the corner cabinet almost meets the frame! Peach, I'm still liking that dark brown for the bottom row. It's not too "dated"? Thanks, ALL, for the kind comments. I posted on HGTV (rate my space" once, and got VERY critical remarks. Won't go back there! LOL

Wow! I guess pictures can be deceiving, as we do not really have a view, except to the side/backyard! It is a 9' block wall covered with plants, some fruit trees, and a pool out from the french doors in the FR. There was a thread a couple of months ago that had gorgeous to-die-for views, and I was drooling with envy! (lakes, wildlife, mtns). goodbyekitty - thank you...but we have put up window treatments...at night it was like looking into a black hole, and it was a bit uncomfortable. We got used to the bare look, so it took some time (2 wks!), but now we love the woven shades. They let in light even when they are down, and it is much cozier when it is cold. We'll probably keep them up most of the time here in sunny southern CA. The cornice: I'm still getting used to it, and the jury is still out on whether we like it or not.

Our kitchens are sort of similar - in color scheme. You should check out my post and all the great advice I've gotten. I'm researching a few of the latest suggestions before I can post again .... I'm tired. But I happened to check your post while I had a minute.

Your kitchen, so far, is gorgeous. LOVE your hardware (cup pulls are one of my personal faves).

Thanks for the feedback -- @kmeemsie, I think I would match the celtic knot to the tile, but I am waiting to see the American Olean field tile colors in person. (I might do a creamy subway with a celtic knot in a sage-y color, something subtle but a slight contrast.) Or should I go straight subway and skip the accent tile?

@regmoses -- thanks for sending me to your thread. It was helpful to read the comments you got. I loved the link to the arts and crafts subway!

I am also open to other suggestions -- anyone else have any ideas?

I LOVE the celtic knot tile. Are you thinking of using it as an accent tile? I think it would look great with a plain subway tile in the same color. The kitchen would feel calm with just a little interest.

I used an accent tile in the same color at the bottom of my subway tiles just to give some added interest.

I still have never selected my grout though.......

Hi jgs. I said I'd take a look. I wish I had a specific tile recommendation for you. In general, I would stay lighter in color as you're already thinking to balance the dark counters and cabs. You're in the home stretch, and you have a working kitchen!

Are you trying to stay more traditional in the overall look of the kitchen?

@irishcreamgirl -- from your user name, I'm not surprised that you like the Celtic Knot, but thanks for the support! Thanks especially for posting the picture -- that really helps me to see how a same-color accent tile will look with the subway. (Yours looks lovely, by the way!!)

I think the Celtic Knot tile is beautiful - would be great as an accent in a field of tiles the same color. Maybe a band 1 or 2 rows up from the counter for maximum visibility. The lighter color will compliment your cabinets and coutertop. Good Luck!
