Sink cabinetry ?'s (garbage under sink? Cabinet above?)
Comments (21)My kitchen is now 5 days old (haven't had time to take pics yet..too much time here instead!). I chose to have the garbage under my sink, instead of using up precious cabinet space. I have made 3 trips to Lowe's Rev-a-Shelf aisle because of a few things I did not consider before: 1) new 10" deep sink limits the height of the trash can I can use 2) hot water pipe limits the depth of the trash can I can use 3)left side of cabinet is totally unusable for trash due to 1 & 2 plus dishwasher drain hose from Bosch DW literally cuts the cabinet size in half (sigh!). My GC says he can call the plumber back "in a few weeks" to change all the plumbing around "for his hourly fees", but at this point I don't have the $$$ or the patience any more. I ended up buying the smallest Rev-a-shelf trash to fit the 16"deep space on the right. So, in summary, KUDOS to you for anticipating this issue before your plumbing is in. There are alot of after-market kits available, some much nicer than the small, cheap one I ended up with. Good Luck! Diane...See MoreCan toxic fumes from bleach seep through food containers?
Comments (1)Air the cabinet out....bleach smell comes from the chlorine in the bleach dissipating into the air....when it has all dissipated the odor will be gone. I think you over reacted as to the leak from the can....really all you needed to do was wipe up the mess and wipe where it was with a 10% bleach solution. What leaked was not germs, but more likely toxins....and they don't crawl up a dry cabinet interior. And bleach won't seep into an air tight container....See MoreHow to fix under sink cabinet backing cuts?
Comments (22):-) Who said anything about someone should be worried about this...It's not about a hole under the sink, its all about taking pride in your work, your quality workmanship someone hired you to do and most importantly respecting homeowners property for which they paid their hard earned money. Watch and Learn How it's done... If you see it done any other way, it's cutting corners or installer simply don't know or don't care....See MoreHow toxic are latex paint fumes?
Comments (4)A SHARP scraper works well, & totally non-toxic! Next: Using a palm-sander or sanding-block, EVENLY dull the surface some until you're happy with the smoothness. * Get every molecule of dust off. * Use a good primer! 2 coats if you're fussy. This will allow you to SLIGHTLY smooth the surface a tad, with a 220-grit sponge. * Now, 2 coats of a good Cabinet & Trim paint. Satin is fine....Semi-gloss a little better. * You could use a "normal" wall paint, but you then have literally have 60 seconds of working-time before it starts tacking-up! Faron...See Moredesertsteph
