Mexican bark paper art

Just got back from a week in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where I bought this bark paper art:

I bought 3 panels, they are each 16 x 47 inches. I will make canvases to mount them on that I will paint in solid colors.

They will replace the wall art that I painted on the wall a few years ago. I will probably use the the same rust and green colors I used here to paint the canvases.

I have a very old piece that my DH was given as a gift in Mexico when he was a presenter at a conference. It has iridescent painting on the birds it depicts. When I took it to be framed they suggested mounting it on burlap. They did it and it looks wonderful and has held up perfectly. It doesn't have any cutouts as your piece has but i think the neutral of the burlap would really show the beautiful detail of the cutwork. Colors behind it would take away I would think. Just a suggestion. I can post a pic of mine if you like. Your artwork that you painted is wonderful !! c

I did see some pieces that were mounted on a natural muslin type cloth, and liked the way that they looked, but I wanted to do something a bit different with mine. As you can see my decor is rather modern, so I wanted to marry the modern with the primitive. I also think that I need color on that wall. Of course I could paint the entire room a color and use a natural background.

By the way, LOVE the weather here. It's Spring!!! GULP;;;; Anytime you laugh at Mother Nature, you always pay the price. Brrrr, it's FRIGID! Thanks Stef for the suggestion. I started thinking just one grouping because the Mural elevation right of Mural has that boxed in pipe sticking out and that ruins the double barreled 2 groupings look. I like the sponge idea Plllog, the art brush had me worried. Missy,I see you're also trying to beat the HRTC deadline. Good luck. Hope you get this message before you leave. They have a fantastic resilient floating floor called Traffic Master. Super easy install, comfortable, durable, ultra realistic. If I was going for a wood plank look, I would have bought it in a flash. Nice stuff. A local high end restaurant here used it and it looks and feels great. They ripped brand new ceramic tile out for this stuff!

Love it! Love the collection and the pole accent. The guy is probably taking the chicken home for dinner. Even roosters sometimes become capon. Great idea about getting similar frames at Goodwill. I'm eventually going to do a few walls like this (well maybe not quite as eclectic) but I will need to perhaps re-frame some art, so scouring Goodwill for frames is a great idea. But knowing me, there will be some funky, kitschy art inside the frame and then I will just be right back where I started, trying to figure out a way to incorporate THAT into my decor. On second thought, maybe better just get a plain frame at the local big box . , ,

We call him "the Green Man" but he isn't really green anymore. He's a woodblock on fabric, done by the Art Professor at the University of Taiwan in the late 60s. DH purchased him at an art gallery on an r and r in Taiwan when he was stationed in Vietnam. It cost him $50. He was only 19. What 19 year old soldier buys a picture like this? Most bring home Elvis on black velvet! It's always hung in our house mostly in the dining room.

You're dining room looks lovely, I love the neutral wall colors. I believe these work by Avaulte artist Bronle Crosby would be a lovely compliment to the room. The first one is titled 'Birds Eye View" and is 24"x18". I believe the neutrality of this painting along with the pops of color would be a beautiful addition to the room. This next image by Avaulte artist Bronle Crosby is titled 'Still Waters' and is 36"x26.5". The simplicity and stillness of the image would be a lovely feature to the dining room. I would also consider looking at works by Avaulte artist Barbara Trcinski who creates amazing figurative paintings. These could add a lovely pop of color and be a beautiful statement piece within the living room. The first is titled 'Shondra in a Purple Dress' and is 20"x16". The warm colors of the painting would compliment the wall color of the dining room well. The next work by Avaulte artist Barbara Trcinski is 'Chrysanthemums' and is 30"x24". Again I belive this could add a beautiful pop of color to the room. terriks , just a thought. You could just place some colored paper behind the art to see how it looks. Also take one of them with you to the fabric place and see what looks good. Might find something really interesting to place behind them . Good Luck. Whatever you do they will look fabulous, I bet. c

That's great idea to go to a fabric store. Maybe I could skip the painting step if I can find a fabric to stretch on the frame.
