different color trim in different rooms?

Anyone have some rooms with painted white interior trim windows and other rooms with stained wood interior windows all in the same house? I'm building a house and picking out interior window color.

Problem is I visualize painted white trim for a Pottery Barn look in an upstairs bathroom and a downstairs laundry room. In other rooms, I think the window trim should be a teak stained color instead of painted white. I picture the rooms individually. I know the rooms that open up to one another and you can see more than one room at once need to be the same. But do individual rooms have to be the same too? My designer says I can't have white trim in one or two rooms and stained trim in all the others(this is for interior windows)--the interior windows all have to be the same.

I agree with your designer that they all should be the same. However, I am sure some people will post that they have a mixture of painted and stained trim. Some people have done this but the norm is to go all painted or all stained.

White trim in the bathroom is fine. Again, using my 80 year old previous residence as an example - the two front rooms, living and dining, had oak floors, doors, a built-in buffet, windows and trim including a 10" baseboard. The rear 1st floor rooms had maple floors, cabinets, doors, windows and trim. Upstairs the floors and trim were pine. Outside the wood was all painted the same. Nowadays most people do use all one or the other, stained or painted. But you can do it the way you want. My bathroom door was stained on the outside and painted white on the inside. It worked very well for the space and that house.

I've been in a lot of show homes lately. Often they have a beautiful laminate or engineered wood floor. And then you get to the stairs, and you can't just lay the engineered wood on the stair, because the cut edge isn't pretty. So they've got a plastic edge on every stair to cover the edge of the flooring material. IMHO, it's like a flashing light that screams "this is not real wood flooring!" And it ruins the effect of the overall floor. But they do it in show homes, so apparently I'm alone in noticing that. On the other hand, I've been in a lot of builder show homes lately that obviously needed to hire a designer. The expensive part of wood on stairs is the edge of each tread. It needs to be shaped and finished. The painted riser is just an effect, less wood look, highlights the wood tread.

Sure you can use the same trim. It's easy. You have a riser from the cabinets to the ceiling, and then continuous crown of the same profile around the whole room, including cabinets. You color match the crown paint to the cabinets.

To me, it boils down to the aesthetic you are going for. I like fresh, open, light interiors, and I don't care for the way stained trim "outlines" a room, especially if light colored walls are used. Of course, a wood paneled study is glorious and would use stained trim, even in a house with painted trim in all the other rooms. As far as material goes...if your builder is using quality stain grade wood, it will most certainly be more expensive. I mean, the wood is significantly more expensive than paint grade poplar, and it still has to be stained, just like the poplar has to be painted. Isn't all trim hand painted? How could you effectively spray trim?

It definitely seems as though any green walls downstairs are out. The backsplash is mostly red. The cabinets and walls are cream. There is some cream in the tile directly behind the oven. However, I do have 5 inch pilasters to sort of delineate where thr kitchen stops and thr family room begins. Because my dog goes in and out through the family room, I know thst using the cream that's in the kitchen would be a disaster in the fam rm. I was thinking of possibly painting the hallway color in there and doing the accent wall where thr fireplace is, with the kitchen color.
