Buying "art" and buying "Art"
Comments (27)Thanks Rosie. That painting is a pleasure for me on so many levels - the crazy coloring, the "art" labeling, the primitiveness... I am way too constrained to create that freely. And then there is the personal - knowing all DH was going through at the time and his very surprising decision to try painting for respite. It inspires me. For the OP, reflect on what is appealing to you about those museum pieces you like. Crystalize that as best you can. Any gallery would be happy to help you discover works you love, for a price. If that price is prohibitive, try 'lesser' galleries, student art shows, resale shops, art fairs - just look and trust yourself to respond. Let yourself make a mistake or two, it's the only way to learn what you really love. And yes, framing can make all the difference....See MoreThe Art of Mixing Styles
Comments (19)art and decor/decorating style is very much 'beauty in the eye of the beholder'---very subjective!!! lots of 'rules' to be followed and to be broken in both art and decorating... imo, the all cream bedroom pic had 'different styles' on either side of the bed... the other rooms, not so much (there certainly wasn't 'flawless symetry' in the rooms, but IMO, not alot of 'mixed style'...) sometimes you have to look very hard to find an artist/s whose work you want to display in your home or a designer you want to hire to offer design consult...you might be able to appreciate many different art pieces or design styles, but not want to live with it!! and, maybe definitions of 'mixed style' might differ, but there's no dispute that design and the ability to successfully mix styles is an art!!...See MoreMixing Frames in Art Arrangement - Your Thoughts..
Comments (3)Mostly I don't try to match. I just took a stroll through my house looking at framed stuff. I have a LOT of framed photographs. In my bedroom they are mostly black, because I went through a phase of just wanting black frames. They are not the same style (mostly from Aaron Bros.) so don't look overly matchy. I think if two pieces are meant to be hung as a unit, I'd probably pick matching frames. I now prefer the look of mismatched, but coordinating, frames....See MoreThe art consultant sent me a proposal for art in my living room! WDYT?
Comments (65)This OP has posted several dilemmas lately. I started reading this one from the onset and yes, there are several of the more critical posts missing. She clearly was happy about the selections and appeared to want validation from the people that had helped her with her other dilemmas. One of the first comments on my first dilemma on here was devastating to me and left me very upset. Fortunately, I have a thick skin and just flagged it and then along came some wonderful people to help me. Sometimes certain contributors just go too far. I’ve seen many OPs run off from this forum, but this is the first I’ve seen someone completely delete their account. THINK before you comment people! You could make or break someone’s day with your words...See More- 13 years ago
