Paint color to complement dark stained trim

I am getting a house I inherited ready to sell. It was built in 1983, so it has the dark stained trim throughout. I just pulled down the old wallpaper in the foyer and the guest bath and I plan on painting. The rest of the house is an off-white, but I'd like to paint these rooms in a color that helps to complement and tone-down the stark contrast of the white walls with the dark trim. I was thinking a pale sage green? I want something "neutral" as all the flippers say is necessary, but I'm not afraid to try a blue, green or gray that is neutral. I personally think the white walls currently in the house always look dingy and really make the ugly trim stand out even more.

It's hard to detect much of an undertone in the wood. It's pretty much just a dark plain brown.
