Stupid 3 Musketeers pop-up

Anyone else continually getting this pop-up when accessing this forum? Is there any way to get rid of it?

Use Mozilla Firefox for your browser.

yes, yes, yes...I've been dealing with it for two days now. I keep hearing about mozilla, but I don't know how it works. We have DSL, so that's the browser we use. Does using mozilla affect that in any way? Can I set mozilla up so that I get the same home page that I do with the DSL (yahoo) browser.

The reason I asked for the OS and sp is because there is a Java VM problem from a few years ago that used to open the PC up to malaware. If you go to the link below, you can read about it. Look at where it says How can I tell what version of the Microsoft VM I'm using? Here's how to determine the build number you're using: 1. Select Start, then Run. 2. On Windows 95, 98, or Me, type "command" (without the quotes). On Windows NT 4.0, 2000, or XP, type "cmd" (again, without the quotes). Hit the enter key. 3. In the result command box, type "Jview" (without the quotes) and hit the enter key. 4. In the topmost line of the resulting listing, you should see a version number of the form x.yy.zzzz. The final four digits are the version number. My other computer that was down was affected by this at one time. I learned about this after working on a friends son's computer. I reformatted the drive, then started patching by going to google. Before I knew it, the system was already infected. Once I did the fix, all was fine. The small frame of the tab, composed of a roll of aluminum, has to stay rigid as it pushes in the scored panel on the lid. It is also the little tab between the rolled tab and the lid that needs to stay intact until the scored panel is pushed in, and which breaks when the tab is removed. Sometimes it takes a dozen wiggles, sometime only a couple will suffice. As I mentioned in my post of Sept. 1, I collected 2,000 tabs in a 2-litre ice cream package, filling it about 3/4 full and I didn't weigh it, but it was not much over 2 lbs., 3 lbs. at the outside. It takes about 32 cans to make a pound - with or without the tabs. If you have a scrap metal dealer nearby, they will buy your scrap cans, and some prefer them uncrushed, but others don't care. Around here, they paid about 70 cents per lb., a few months ago. They say that the tabs and the cans all go into the same bucket. Crushed cans occupy about 1/3 - 1/4 the volume of intact cans. Ironically, I can promise with complete certainty, that THE last vendor from which I'd purchase ANYTHING would be one that destroys my pleasure at reading my favorite boards. Advertising dollars are spent where the most traffic is generated, and click-thrus are tracked. Could they possibly be generating enough traffic to justify the dollars they pay iVillage to have these STUPID ads? Even when I go to the store, I don't have subliminal urges to buy xx toilet paper, xx paper towel, xx penis enhancers, xx Barbie dolls, xx weight loss, nor take it all with me to that Disney vacation repeatedly thrown in my face when online. I don't even shop with a phone to show the store my "exclusive" coupon offers. I will never, ever, ever, never buy something thrown in my face by iVillage. I've said this since I worked for them in the 90s. And to date, I've not broken that vow. Ever-amazing is that people are paid to think up these [ahem] brilliant advertising methods. When we have a nuclear or viral, global war and humanity needs talents and skills to survive? These people, along with used car salesmen, economists, "expert bloggers," commentators, analysts (political and otherwise), actuaries, insurance salespeople and their whole companies, the DEA, (Better STOP me) will become 1) cannon fodder, 2) human medical testing candidates, 3) compost. Next time I'll tell you how I really feel, but I sure wish the advertisers knew -- or gave a darn.

Open your FF extension list/click on Options under AdBlock Plus/Filters/Add Filter Subscription/View All Subscriptions At this point you can cancel out of the preference box. A page of subscriptions will show the various lists. The two that were recommended to me (USA) was EasyElement + EasyList. Click on the filters you want, a box will pop up to add the filter, hit OK. ABP is updated to include these filters. I think you have to restart FF for this to take effect. Monica

Yep and I'm getting sick and tired of closing it every time I want to read a post! I've got a pop-up blocker but it's not catching this one...then again I'm not using Mozilla so maybe I should look into it. The problem with pop-up blockers is that there are times when you need pop ups to fill out forms, etc so now you have to waste time blocking the blocker!

btw...I have tried the mint 3-musketeers (bought it way before this annoying advertisement) and it does not taste as good as the original 3-musketeers.

Laurie, you can select any home page you like with any browser. I keep Firefox and IE on my desktop, but I rarely use IE anymore. It's true that if you use the right extensions with Firefox that it will sometimes also block popups you want to see or use, but you can easily remedy that by clicking on the yellow bar that appears just above the web page content. It becomes second nature after a while. A small inconvenience for all the headaches it saves you.

I don't usually see the full screen pop ups...but this one is getting through...so ANNOYING.

No 3 Musketeers in my candy bowl this Halloween...grrrrrr.

Just put a little ad to the side for goodness' sake.

You'll have no problems if you install and run Spybot and AdAware. Both are free programs and used by many in the IT world.

I also installed firefox and the popups are now gone! I had IE and had popup blockers, adaware, etc...Firefox has been wonderful!

I have IE and never have pop ups. There are lots of pop up blockers that actually add pop-ups or spyware. They have names that sound very much like adaware and spybot, but are not.

Also, these programs needs to be updated occasionally.

I have both Mozilla and IE on my computer and use Mozilla almost exlusively.
But when I use Mozilla for this site, I often will not get all the posted pictures. I can tell from the discussion that others are seeing pictures that I'm not seeing. I don't have this problem when I use IE.
I've questioned my husband (the computer person in our family) and he has no idea why this is happening. Does anyone else have this problem with Mozilla?

You must have posted this on the kitchen forum too. I know I answered it but my reply isn't here...Firefox and Ad Block Plus = NO popups. Anyway, I had to buy on of these candybars last night. Didn't know they existed. VERY good!

I sent the manufacture an email saying how annoying it is. I can handle it popping up once, but it just doesn't go away even with my pop up blocker.

...when I use Mozilla for this site, I often will not get all the posted pictures.

That happens to me occasionally on the Cooking Light board, but not here at GW.

BTW, for those of you still using one browser ... Mozilla and Firefox are one and the same. The full name is Mozilla Firefox. (anything to simplify the issue). ;)

Mozilla Firefox - a dream come true.

No pop ups, no ads, none of the annoying videos that used to play here AND, no annoying ads on my Yahoo browser either.

And, and, and....so many extensions that can be added that are too numerous and too cool to list. Love my colorful tabs! And just added a coupon code alert to tell me if the site I'm shopping has a code available. Woo Hoo!

fwiw, I've never had a problem with pictures not showing.

Yaaaaayyyy - so far, so good. I'm using Firefox now and no more pop-ups. Thanks guys. (I never liked that candy bar anyways - haha!)

I use Opera browser and never get pop-ups. I haven't ever had to deal with missing photos either. Opera used to charge a user fee but it is FREE now. A lot of people do not know there is no cost to use it anymore.
