I'm in the middle of an issue with an order from Wayfair right now this moment, and it's not good. I'd be very careful about ordering large items from them. As it is, I don't think I'll ever do business with them again. I ordered a bathroom vanity from Wayfair on February 15th. I specifically ordered it from Wayfair because the manufacturer recommended it when I called them to see if they could do white glove delivery. They said Wayfair offered a "room of choice" service that included two flights of stairs. So I ordered the vanity from Wayfair. I still do not have it yet, because the vanity has been sitting on a loading dock in Memphis about 40 miles from here for over a week. The delivery agent in Memphis says he doesn't want to take it upstairs. I've called Wayfair, sent photos of the stairs, emailed, left messages with a specific person at Wayfair that had emailed their number to me. Yet no one has called me back. Just nothing. I called yesterday and was told they'd follow up shortly, but I haven't heard a word. I just now placed a call to the delivery agent in Memphis leaving him a message to please just deliver it, set it inside the front door, and I'll hire professional movers to take it upstairs for me. At this point, I'm afraid I'll never get the vanity, because the delivery agent doesn't want to deal with it, and Wayfair doesn't seem to want to either. I'm very frustrated! This is a $2000 purchase and my bathroom renovation is going on this week. The plumbers need this piece delivered. I'm starting to think I'll have to go the credit card dispute route. I was skeptical about ordering from them, because I've heard a lot of stories, and I should have paid attention to that gut feeling. My overall feeling about Wayfair is that they are not good for large item purchases. Maybe if I didn't have stairs, it wouldn't have been a problem, but if they offer that service for a fee, they should make sure it's being done.

I have two Maddox sodas, in the 8 and 9 foot lengths, purchased in 2017 for a total of $11,000. The first pair I returned because the color of the fabric ("Graphite" velvet) was nothing like the swatch, which was a beautiful mossy greenish-brown -- the color shown in the catalog. The delivered fabric was a sort of blue-gray that looked like the mouse-fur upholstery on your average airport rental car. When I phoned and asked about this I was told that the swatches are made in China but the fabric comes from mills in North America. So it seems that someone at RH doesn't understand the concept of the swatch! Anyway RH sent two new couches in a darker color that's okay, but not $11k okay. One recommendation: Pay the extra $200 and get the down filling. The standard polyfill is much too firm. The couches are well made and very comfy but I have one major gripe -- the seat cushions can't be flipped because, except along the front, the piping on the edges is only on the top side. Which is really inexcusable for furniture this expensive -- you need to be able to flip the cushions after a few months to smooth out the wrinkles that accumulate over time, and to equalize wear. That kind of cost-cutting is something you expect to find on a $500 Rooms to Go sofa. The real lesson here, for me at least, was: if you're spending over $10k on furniture, hire a decorator.

I think a 60” - 72” console with ottomans or baskets under it, and a lamp or lamps would definitely work ... would give the illusion of more size and take the eye away from the divisions. Your current table actually mirrors the back lines. I like sofa tables with lamps in big open floor plans like yours, as it helps define the rooms. Obviously not a sofa as long as yours, but for an example: I honestly wouldn’t worry about the 3/4 size rule in this case. In fact, I don’t think I’d even want one that long for your room, especially with shelves. Way too hectic/busy (and forced).

To clarify my question about wall height & direction of window -my house has a bonus room over a 3 car garage so it’s a good sized room - @ 380 sq ft - & also with sloped ceilings down the long sides. The wall height at bottom of sloped ceilings is 5’ & it’s 8’ in wide center of room. The 6’ wide window faces West & since it’s over the driveway, there is reflected heat from the West facing driveway to the 6’ wide window that affects temperature in the room. We do have a ceiling fan because of that as well as blinds plus a Roman shade mounted at ceiling height & with a solar backing on the window. We also have AC. The 5’ height of side walls does allow for seating along walls & no problem with headroom. It also allows for our very large TV that sits on a regular height console to be placed on the long wall across from the sofa. TV sits in middle of console top so height not a problem. We have a loveseat in front of window & a great table for projects & games sitting in a corner We do have a generous closet with a regular door that is built out from the side wall & has a half wall extension that continues @3’ from the closet & which has the stairs on the other side. No bathroom in the room & also no door at top of stairs. The room is open at top of stairs with the half wall - stairs don’t ’load’ directly into room as yours do. Ours are a side entry. We have had guests sleep there on air beds - 3 boys. Likely not a good solution for your MIL. Murphy bed might be a solution for you to place on left wall next to door but quite an expense & not sure about safety with the spring loaded bed & kids playing up there. Maybe a trundle bed set up used as a day bed? Sofa sleepers are notorious for lack of comfort but may be the only choice if you don’t want the room looking like a bedroom. Lots of info but maybe will spark some ideas for you.
