My Craigslist coffee table score! Pics

For some reason, my biggest decorating challenge seems to be finding coffee tables. I've been searching for a table for our den for over 6 months. I've bought and returned two reject tables. I finally found my table this weekend on CL.

The table is big and grounds the room (5x3). We liked how the lines of the table complemented the architectural details in the room. Plus it's sort of shabby chic so my kids really can't mess it up banging toys on it. Here she is:

On Sunday I found this little bowl at HomeGoods, which picks up the turquoise in the room:

Well you certainly did score ! I think the lines of the table are perfect with the rest of your room and the carpet design and I love the neutral color. The bowl is the perfect addition. You did great . c

Very very nice... I really do like the way it mimics the windows. Home Goods is a great place to tool around and find things... you did great!

Lab tables often have phenolic resin surfaces...Richlite is an example of phenolic resin impregnated paper. (I wonder what happened to that as a countertop choice?) Formica makes some. It's like thick laminate, or a solid surface, as Morgne mentioned. Anyway, I looked at a lab table site and they said they had Microban protected coatings on all touch points and list the materials as stainless and polymers. Polymers can be any number of things (has to do with repeated molecules), but is often used to describe plastics or certain types of rubber. Maybe Silestone is the only commercially produced counter for the home with Microban? I really have no idea, so am not trying to argue at all with what Trailrunner said. Only way to know about what you've found on Craigslist is to ask the seller or see the actual surface. I'd be surprised if it was natural stone, but that would be a cool find for you!

Thanks to all. Greenthumbfish, I saw that stencil at Hobby Lobby. I ended up passing on it because the repeat on the pattern was so small. I was afraid it might end up too busy. I wish they would have made a bigger stencil! Parma, I agree with you 100%. I think that day, my stiff upper lip was already starting to quiver b/c of the rest of the chaos I was having to be so strong about. Handling critique and suggestions (albeit harmless and trying to be helpful) that I had not solicited was just more than I could stand, especially when I thought I was pretty clear on the nature of the post. Again, it had nothing to do with the comments, and everything to do with the timing. Sometimes you just can't hear how you can be "better", especially when as you explained, "better" is so subjective to personal style. I will remember your words, though, and will make sure to laugh at myself as I count my accessories! Puna, I have to say I'm pretty dismayed as well. For the life of me, I can't figure out how removing those comments was necessary or helpful. (Yours and several others, including some of mine!) Ugh. LaFonda, yes, my stomach went into knots when the property manager called and said I needed to get over there immediately because water was "everywhere". I thought he was exaggerating. He wasn't. Ugh again. Joanie, I don't think I'll stop, but I think I may definitely change how I post photos. This post has served as very clear reminder of how some people think, and knowing I can't change that, all I can do is change how much of it I set myself up for. Patty, you got the whole point of the post; I was delighted to find something so pretty when I was going through something so horrid. Thanks for "getting it."

Oh I forgot to mention- I purchased the table and 6 chairs for $650!! The seller bought it at a high end furniture store that I was familiar with. It is a replica of an antique, and it was made in Italy. The chairs were purchased separately, but I always loved the style of these chairs. The chairs have some scuffs on it, but the table was perfect! The chairs I sold were scuffed as well, and black shows the kiddie fingerprints, and drives me batty!!

Really nice. I agree with remodelfla - my first thought was that the lines complement your beautiful windows.

I can completely relate to buying and returning a few contenders before finding that perfect piece for your space!

Well, I'm glad to see that there is still hope for me. I too have been searching and searching for the right tables. I can't find ANYTHING I like.

thanks, everyone! It's nice it is to finally have a table in this room - we sold our previous table on Craigslist back in August so we haven't had anything to prop our feet on.

leafy, don't give up hope on finding a table - I searched CL for months too and was starting to get discouraged.

ttodd, the white deer head is from ZGallerie.

loribee, i'll post some more pix soon - we're still in the process of finishing this room - new carpet, a cushion for the back bay window and some paint for the insides of the bookshelves.

gobruno, the paint color is Ralph Lauren Stony Mountain. It's got a hint of green in it.

Ooh I love it! Responds so nicely to the beams in the ceiling. Love your rooms, too, looks cozy and open/spacious at the same time.

Your table has great lines which tie into the rest of the room and the bowl is a nice blend of the turquoise and earth colours with some texture as well. Now that is what I call a find.

Coffee tables and casual eating tables - why are they both so hard to find????!!!
