My memory is shot, there's a poster here who does all her own tapestry and I bought myself a beginners kit for needlepoint. I wish she'd show her house again. Anyone remember who it is? She helped me with African Violests once.

Aww, oakley! I just logged off work and came here to see whats; up, and what a wonderful surprise. I have had great luck finding pieces on eBay and CL and also wonderful fabrics. I even have adjoining rooms that are red and green!

I do too. I'm not a huge poster, but I am a huge reader. My life is never calm enough for me to sit down and post pic's much less take pic's!!! I love seeing what everyone is doing, tweaking, painting, finding etc.! Someday I hope to share my own finds and tweaks but for now I satisfy my decorating bug by watching and reading.

IRL I use GW to motivate me to get off the bench of procrastinating, and get a project done! I hope to make slipcovers for my dining room chairs this weekend, paint a corner hutch cabinet, and ponder making some 3dog WT's to coordinate with the slip covers! (or at least keep my eyes open for fabric) Vicariously or not GW has helped fine tune my tastes, given me a place to hang, and propelled me time and time again to keep going. Also as I keep moving forward I notice that while I love and feast on all of "your" great projects I find I am more comfortable in my own decorating needs and no longer run off to think about changing this or that! Phew...I'm glad I'm over that...too many beautiful ideas here! =)

Oakley - I think I know who you're talking about any I have photos saved but not on this computer. I'd even recognize her name if I saw it. I'm trying find it in a search and am coming up with nothing. She also repainted her master bedroom a pretty rust color, I believe?

There's lots of houses here I love but it wouldn't work for my lifestyle. I enjoy looking at all the photos.

And yep, My3dogs has the cozy thing down pat. As I was looking at her beautiful photos one day I wondered if that were my house what would I have done with the space? I wouldn't of thought to do any of the cool stuff she did.

A while ago there was a post about a mantel arrangement. I think the poster was sweeby. In that post was a photo of her sofa. It had a wood base with pillows. I wish I would have saved the photo. I drool over that sofa...or the image of it I keep in my mind. Wish I could find the actual photo...Hey sweeby, could you post a photo of your sofa???

Why, yes I do! I want to live in Scooby or my3dogs house. I love everything about them. I love your style too, ttodd, I look forward to seeing what you have come up with when you grab a paint brush and start moving things around :-). I take something away from every photo I see of other GW'ers home, whether it is a color combination or a vase of flowers placed just so or how they've arranged things on their books shelves. I love looking at the MCM homes, the contemporary homes and every style that isn't necessarily the way that I decorate (traditional to the bone here) but I appreciate them and think they are beautiful!

I enjoy looking at other members' homes, for the simple pleasure of seeing a job ~large or small~ well done. I love design so much that it makes me happy just seeing someone's well-done furniture reno, a great TS find or how a change in wall color creates a whole new feel for a room. I enjoy every style of decor shown here, homes big and small . . . it's all the same to me. It's seeing what people do with what they have that's so enjoyable for me.
BUT, I do have to say that every time My3dogs posts more pics of her jewel box of a home, my heart starts racing in anticipation. I always refer to it as a "jewel box" because she's filled it with the most amazing, wonderful finds/treasures! I love everything about that house and always enjoy hearing about how she finds those treasures.

Yes indeed....there are so many gorgeous homes with awesome kitchens, baths and fabulous furniture with great decorative touches. My home is a creamy ecru color throughout, so I really like all the pretty wall colors that folks have. I do appreciate the diversity in decorating styles and enjoy reading the positive and kind feedback/suggestions people post. I love all the pictures and links too.

Yes! I love seeing all your homes. I have pared things down quite a lot and my dream homes are contemporary and MCM, but I do always enjoy seeing the Victorians, farmhouses, all of them! There is something to love in each and every one. Thanks to all of you!

Since I neither want, nor can afford a house in every style that intriques me...of course I do :) I'd love to do a fabulous NY Loft (and as long as I'm dreaming let's put it high up in the sky above central park shall we?) as well as a fabulous country chic cottage (I may do that in the gardeners cottage if DH gives it up LOL) but I've dreamed of the fun I could have with MCM as well as an ultra comtemp house. Gad an English cottage...and does anyone have a castle? I'd love to imagine that one heh heh I also drool over craftsmen homes.

I love getting the chance to see so many beautiful homes and it's such fun to see homes in styles that aren't mine. I appreciate everyone who shares so much of their own homes and also of their knowledge. I wish I had something to give back to all of you. I am learning so much!

I thoroughly enjoy learning through all of you although many of the projects are too grand, ambitious, or high-budget for me to relate to except as an exercise -- I can't relate personally to high cost decorating projects. But when I see something I'd actually want or could imagine having/living with/living in/tackling I do live vicariously and get excited about how it turns out.

For example, there was a time when I couldn't wait for Franksmom to take the next step on her dining room. But she's taking too long and not posting nearly often enough :).

Palimpsest's future ex is something that would seriously draw me. It seems to me to be an almost perfect project in size and scope. But I don't have the opportunity for such a thing right now so it is wonderful to live through her. I have a feeling she'll do it very differently than I would, and it will be very fun to see.

I do, especially since I'm very visual in my decorating. There are so many great homes and styles and I either get ideas for my own home or just admire styles that wouldn't work for me but I love anyway.

I especially lust over Allison's house!

Absolutely. There are sometimes pictures of houses that, when I see them, I honestly mistake for clips from decorating magazines. And then there are, as Lynne says, the examples of people doing amazing projects that make such a difference in the way their homes look and feel.

Something else I treasure on this forum is the occasional topic on what's *outside* the home: people's views, vistas, gardens and local scenery. I love seeing gorgeous shots of peaceful water, soaring mountains, dramatic desert vistas, peaceful small community streets...what an incredible range and variety of places in which we live.

Allison's house is another I like, especially the bedrooms. In order for me to get nice bedrooms we'd have to gut the one's we have. I'll never go through another remodel again, unless I can go on a long cruise, come home, and it's all done! :)

I just realized that it's the not-yet-inhabited spaces, the ones that are still more planned than completed, that I live in. Once the decorator reveals her strategy and starts to moves in I'm outa there! I guess I like the potential of things, the open possibility of it all, the peek.

When it comes to details and tablescapes and making hard choices and finishing up I'm on the complete other end of things -- asking, asking, asking. Cuz when it comes down to it I have to live right here in my own space.

Concerning bold colours, there is significant disagreement in our house! My partner prefers subdued, sometimes even pastel colors (yuck!) and I prefer very bold, rich colors. Our kitchen is red, the family room is a beautiful rich tan ("basketry"), the Dining room is a rich green, the powder room is a lighter green, office upstairs and master bedroom is a deep green...

But he got to choose the parlor color...and of course...what did he choose...some pale yellow crap. ::sigh:: but it was his choice. And we were planning on having that yellow going up the stair case too but I just couldn't stomach it so we get a very rich harvest gold type of color to go up there, thank god.

It just all depends on your personal tastes :). Just because other people enjoy bold colors doesn't mean you have to do so in your own house ;).

Maybe it was just an over sight, but I didn't hear Jane's name mentioned. (lol) Magaverde doesen't call me the Fred Astaire of decorating for nothing.

I love Allison's home, Juddgirl home, ttodd home just to name a few. And I would love to see Magaverde's again outside a magazine.

It gets me gung ho about starting my project and all the finishing touches. I get encouraged by the "can do" attitude here and in the kitchen forum. I also love seeing other people's quirky finds and choices in artwork. I have never gotten far enough to get to the artwork stage. We had to do a ton of work on our last house and left before we ever got to hanging pictures and really feathering the nest. I did the best I could if you don't count bare (but, well painted and smooth) walls.
In this house, there has been no effort to decorate for the here and now because we have been in pre-reno for 4 years. The project starts next month, so I hope to be in the "decorating" part of things by Spring. I will be asking questions and gaining perspective between here and then.

It will be interesting to work all my finds and inherited old stuff with the new spaces. Much will be like seeing old friends and some may have to go into storage. I have not unpacked our china cabs or any decorative stuff since moving in, so I am jonesing for some completed rooms!

I also love to see inside everyones home. I especially love Newhomebuilders home. There are many on here that I like but hers always seems to make me smile.

Love the red rooms, I havent gotten up the nerve yet to do red walls even though I have the perfect entrance for it in this house. Problem is I am not sure what shade of red to commit to and a hubby that doesnt like red rooms.

Not me, we luv our home, we had it built perfect for us! our home to retire in and the last build for us and the best, had an awesome lady builder, who worked with us on every detail, could not be happier with the result, or with the great comments from all who walk thru our door.

Me! count me in! I love visting everyone's home.It's like living in a huge neighborhood and dropping in on neighbors from time to time, from coast to coast, mountains,southern ya'll hydrangeas to freezing tundra with mooses.

Definitely! There are too many names to mention, but I search for the details that make a room so homey and try to incorporate them in our home. I'm a traditional/eclectic person and I love color, so I like seeing modern homes or the cottage white look since I can't have those in our home.

There's another house I remember - or maybe it was just a room that I saw and not the entire house. I can't remember the poster's name but it was a sunroom with an iron daybed and it overlooked a lake. How wonderful it would be to have a space like that.

Jamies! That's so sweet that you remembered that room! Well, we got sidetracked by many, many things, but we're finally back in that dining room!

I have a valance hung, plates hung, a few new accessories to add, the chandelier is being rewired as we speak, and I've started the makeover on that unfinished china cabinet!! I should have the primer on it by the weekend.

It'll still be a few weeks before it's all together, but barring any more disasters or emergencies, it should definitely be (mostly) done by Thanksgiving. I'll be sure and post lots of pics when it's all together, and I really appreciate all of the advice that was given, especially about that chandelier. If it turns out even close to what's in my head, I think I'll be happy with it.

I do live vicariously through this site!! There's a lot of styles and colors that aren't right for us, but I still appreciate them and always enjoy looking at a well designed room, even if it's not my taste at all. Those are the rooms I try to really study, rather than just dismiss as "not for me." I look at the colors, the lighting, the accessories, the proportions of everything, how the curtains are hung, the textures, etc., and try to take something away from that to be used in our home.

What I like most of all, is seeing how regular, ordinary people that have the same resources as the rest of us problem solve in their homes. I'm always amazed at the creativity that people have! I like seeing how people deal with weird architecture (or lack of), weird windows, bad floorplans, bad lighting, small spaces, big spaces, and everything else that's not perfect and pretty.

I feel like I'm new to decorating. We've always been renters, so we never even considered changing out fixtures, painting anything, or any of the list of things that are forbidden in a rented space. Some days I feel completely overwhelmed and lost by all of the choices and possibilities, and other days I feel like "YES! That looks great!"

I just found this site recently and am really learning a lot by the pics of peoples homes and the feedback they get. I love looking at the different styles and colors of so many beautiful homes, I like the pics of the smaller homes too because that is what I have and it gives me ideas for my own.

Oh, yes, most definitely! I just LOVE seeing pictures of people's homes. There are so many talented people on this site. To me it is liking trick-or-treating and looking in the door to see how the house is decorating every day! Yes, I do that and yes, my DH thinks I'm nuts!
