Do you use flamess candles?

I saw a presentation on QVC for flameless candles and the pitch sounded pretty good - nothing to clean and they last a while. Some of them even had timers and can turn on/off automatically. So does anyone use them to decorate? Do they actually last the promised 500 hours on 2 batteries?

Yes.. I bought them off OVC and have given them as gifts... They are great... would recommend them highly!!

Especially good in a Jack-o-Lantern on Halloween so it won't burn the insides.

Penny--I can't believe how fast time is flying--6 days!! Here is what I think we are planning on going with: As soon as all of the guests are seated and just before the seating of the special family, the candlelighter will light all of the candles on the candleabras. Then all of the special family and grandparents will be seated. Next, MOG will be escorted down asile by G (not my choice but I suppose it will work) and will remain standing at her seat until the MOB is escorted down asile by my younger brother (GM) to her seat. The G and GM will remain standing at the mothers' seats while the two mothers together walk up to the table where the unity candle and the family candles will be. They light the family candles at the same time and then walk back to their seats. The G and GM will then exit. Goodluck!! Springbride04

What to use/repurpose empty candle jars?

I clean them out and keep putting the covers through the dishwasher a few times to get the smell to go away. I love that they are airtight. One was a pretty shape so I put it on the table with cranberry sauce in it. It was festive looking and popped the cover on to put in the fridge when finished. Others I use for food storage at the cottage so no little critters will get. Corn starch, salt, brown sugar and have dried herbs from the garden in a few.

If you do spray, the method and timing of the application can reduce pollinator mortality. I still prefer not to do it, we are one of the few houses on my road that don't have professionals come and spray, but I live adjacent to a wetland. There are times of year and times of day we simply cannot go outside unprotected. Annie, I'm glad you asked because I've been having a hard time also. I like to have tapers in my two antique candlestick holders. Clair De Lune used to sell a huge variety of colours for 99 cents each. Now they sell a few colours but only in packs of 5 or 6 for $6.99. I too am very afraid of house fires so I never light them (when I first get them I light them & blow them out immediately, just so they look like they might get used). I have tried HomeSense and Dollarama but if they have any it is usually only red, green or white.

I'm going to have to get some of those as gifts as well. I have family members with pets that are afraid to burn candles in case the animals knock them over--this would work well. Thanks.

I use a different type of what I consider a flameless candle for the scent--the reed diffusers. I love the ones that Pier One sells. I put them all over the house and flip the reeds every once in a while. I don't have to worry about lighting candles and I get a great scent.

I bought one last year at a half price sale at Kohl's. Wal-Mart has them for about $8, and the wick even looks burned on theirs, so they are very realistic!

I have the QVC ones and they are really nice! Restoration Hardware also sells some this time of year for the mantel area that are very pretty though overpriced (esp. after comparing them to the QVC ones).

Thanks for store tip, my3dogs and orie. I've never seen them in stores, so I'll be on the lookout to see them in real life.

That's a great idea. I'm always afraid that my kids or the dog would knock my candles over. I tend to burn quite a lot of them too. Great idea, thanks.
