Tapered candles are very hard to find now. Most of my candles (42 of them to be exact ;) ) come from Avon. I used to sell Avon and got hooked on their 3-wick candles. Tea lights I get from Ikea. I do think they sell tapered candles as well, but I could be wrong. The rest of my candles are the Febreeze or Glade candles.

Do you have a Pier 1 near you? They have a pretty good supply in mine.

Tapers are harder to find. I used to buy mine at our local Hallmark store as they always had a nice selection but they Have since closed. On the upside, I don't use them as much as I used to. :)

Colonial Candle carries a wide selection of tapers in various heights and colors. Scented and unscented. I prefer just white tapers (unscented) and get mine at my local dollar store. I have also shopped Pier One for candes as well.

I make my own. But they're not tapers. They are scented in jars.

I had the same problem at Christmas trying to find burgundy and red tapers. Never found burgundy, but stocked up on red and white 10” tapers from BB&B. Neither of the Pier 1 or Hallmark stores near me carried tapers.

The Shaker Village....I live between 2....one is fairly close, and has basic colors. The one further away has an amazing selection of colors. They are smokeless and quite long lasting!

This is where all my tapers are from, and is likely where the ones from your floral arehouse were from. You may have to call to find a current source.

We use tapers most nights, I buy by the box, Colonial Candles, non scented. I admit I now use one taper most nights for just the two of us.

I buy them at a local garden store. In my mother's town, the large card and gift store has a complete selection. Thelampstand.com also has them...put taper in the search box.

Originally I found them at my local Hallmark but that store has closed. They have a wide range of colors and best of all you can get unscented. They burn clean too. When they have a sale I stock up.

I like white so I buy them at IKEA -- very reasonable and they have some nice tall ones. When I go I buy a couple of boxes and they last a while and then when I get down to just a couple I go and buy a couple more boxes. I also like Colonial candles and would buy those by the box until I found IKEA. If I couldn't get to IKEA, I would order from Colonial if I needed candles. I always use white/cream and unscented.

I have bought a lot of candles from Marshall's or TJ Maxx, especially in greens and reds. You have to buy them when you see them. We buy candles at William Sonoma too.

Colonial candles were the ones I used to buy, maybe at a Hallmark store or similar. Then I went to a PartyLite show and found great, long-burning unscented white tapers. I can order them without buying through someone who sells them. Fairly cheap too, like 6 for $14.

I could not find red tapers for Christmas deco anywhere, so I checked on Amazon and found some drip-less 10 inch made in USA tapers for $12.75 a dozen. I am very satisfied and planning to order more for this year. Not sure if we are allowed to post links, but the ones I ordered are fulfilled by "candle artisans".

I think Walmart still has taper candles in their brand- fairly inexpensive, but not sure if you can find them in stores or would have to order online. Target might have them online as well.

I don't buy candles at all. I'm to afraid of house fires.

Trader Joe’s has cream tapers. They are dripless and self-extinguishing. And they’re inexpensive! $2.99 for 8.

But I was rather sorry that I didn't have (at least) one ready to go, and a lighter, a few nights ago when it went off for a few hours ...

... when I was busy eating supper!

Fortunately, there was a bit of ambient light coming in the window (snow helps) and the phone was lying on the table, showing some light ... so, as my eyes became accustomed, I was able to navigate through supper.

I might have been more distressed had I not met a skunk on the about 500 foot lane as I started down it in the dark to get the mail, just previously (no really problematic result, there, fortunately/thankfully).

Elmer, candles are very useful when the power goes out. Which it does with remarkable frequency in my area! We do have a dedicated generator but it does not power everything and that trek down the hall to bathroom in the dark is a long one :-)

And they also provide a very pleasant ambience....even when the power is working. I can't imagine a dinner table without candles....indoors and out!!

Just a couple of things. First the trek down the hallway. Depending on if you have a cellphone and the type there is an app that on apple phones is called jlight that I use to light my way when the electricity fails. Second is that many candles are now made from soybean oil rather than a petroleum substance. While I love having candles burning my lungs do not like the soybean candles and almost immediately feel a tightness in my chest so I have given them. I do keep some on hand for emergencies.

Elmer...I don't light them. It's a lodge-look home. :0) 6 months here & no power outages. Altho....the pillar candles are battery operated.

Annie, I'm glad you asked because I've been having a hard time also. I like to have tapers in my two antique candlestick holders. Clair De Lune used to sell a huge variety of colours for 99 cents each. Now they sell a few colours but only in packs of 5 or 6 for $6.99. I too am very afraid of house fires so I never light them (when I first get them I light them & blow them out immediately, just so they look like they might get used). I have tried HomeSense and Dollarama but if they have any it is usually only red, green or white.

I will no longer need candles for those midnite treks down the hall. Since our last outage right before Christmas (52 hours!!), I received a Haylo emergency LED light bulb as a gift that is battery powered. Can be used in any lamp or single bulb light fixture or can be used free standing. Has a sensor that can tell the difference between just being turned off and a power failure.

Although I will probably regret saying this, I am kinda anxious for the next outage to see how well it works :-)

Yes, for safety purposes the candles in the glass jars are probably the safest, but for the looks of the table, I do like tapers. And we don't burn them if no one is in the room.

Card/Gift shops used to have a nice selection, but not lately. I have gotten different colored ones for occasions at the Dollar Store. Some have a better selection than others.

Wegmans. But I don't buy the tapered candles, just the long straight ones. They have tapered candles, too. But I might try Target. They seem to carry tapered, dripless candles.

I, too, eat dinner by candlelight (with music in the background and flowers on the table). Supper, however, is by electric light.

I like to use the 18" tapers for dinners. They are hard to find since I think most people use on 12" ones. The 18" candles are just so graceful and lovely. Craft candles has them, but I haven't bought from them. It has been a while because I stock up when I find them. Almost time to restock though, so this thread has me looking.

ETA: I also much prefer the smooth tapered candles rather than the ones that look like they have a cap on top.

During the holidays I use a lot of wax pillar candles on timers, mostly from PB and RH. Love that they just come on and off. Anyone have a good source for battery wax tapers?

I get mine at thrift stores. I buy the beautiful candles others bought and never used. I look for Beeswax tapers. I only use them for holiday dinners and have a set of silver bases with glass covers to keep marauding cats safe from the flames.
