primer after wallpaper removal--hate to ask this again :)
Comments (8)When I remove wallpaper, I have never been able to do it without gouging the drywall or tearing off some of the drywall cover paper. So I end up patching and skim coating, and that's where the oil based primer comes in. Here is how it was explained to me by the experts on Gardenweb. The mud used to skim coat and patch is water-based, and painting over it with a water based product will cause it to have a slightly different sheen than the non-skim coated wall. To eliminate this, you apply an oil based primer over the skim coat....See MoreAdvice needed, What to do with walls after wallpaper removal?
Comments (0)Hello everyone! I need ideas. We are doing bathroom renovation in 2 bathrooms. Our renovation includes everything but the walls themselves. We just completed 1 bathroom and are about to start on #2. Both bathrooms had awful wallpaper, which was removed. Bathroom #1 now has beadboard walls (see picture). We want bathroom #2 to be different, but having trouble deciding what to do with the walls. We are on a budget, as we have more renovations to do on this house. Any advice? We don't want to go back with wallpaper and sheetrock isn't an option. Thanks in advance. Any pictures would also be appreciated. We still have to finish painting the bathroom in the picture, but I just wanted to give an idea of what we have already done....See MoreJacked up wallpaper removal - help with ruined wall
Comments (8)If that wall paper was put up without primer can be pretty much impossible to remove. The builders of my mom's home did that. She wanted to put up new wallpaper but could not get the old stuff off. She primed over it and put new stuff over. You could try renting a wallpaper steamer and try, but still might be impossible. You have to do a skim coat of drywall mud and sand smooth to fix the spots that are all ripped up. There are lots of good videos on YouTube on how to fix the mess it's tricky to do well. Ask me how I know. (I spent hours fixing some spots I ripped up the paper of sheetrock trying to get it right) Be sure to prime. Were you planning on wallpaper or paint on those walls?...See MoreWallpaper Removal Help!
Comments (17)Thanks for all the suggestions!! I wish I would have realized it was glued directly to the drywall before finishing the whole wall 🤦🏻♀️ live and learn for sure! Definitely going to seal the problem wall, skim coat, then texture and prime/paint. Then just skim coat over seams of existing wallpapers then oil prime over it. Question though! After applying the texture do I need to reapply the oil based primer or can I just use oil based paint/primer? There sure are a lot of steps and lessons learned here. In our bathroom it just pulled right off, it was prepped correctly. This room was an add on room so someone differently did it....See MoreUser
