Help choose a front doorknob

I need help choosing a doorknob for our front entrance. The door is 36" X 80" and enters into our foyer. The foyer is about 6' X11'. I love the look of the large doorset below but wonder if it is too big or overpowering for our door? The other option is a simple lever and deadbolt similar to the style below. I already have a similar lever one on our carport door and thought I should have something more grand for the entrance. Maybe not? Opinions?

Btw, here is my newly painted door. I painted it copper canyon which is orange and stained on top of it until I got the look I wanted.I don't have a long exterior view since the outside is a WIP too but I did buy a new screen/storm door. It is cream, to match the new windows. The screen is hidden, retractable. I love opening the door for air so a screen was a must. Don't care for the center bar but thought it was the best of both worlds. Here is a pic of it from online...

If you choose the large doorset, I don't think it will necessarily overpower your door style-wise, but wonder if it will sit too far down on the door?

Auntjen, thanks, maybe that is what is bothering me about those. I love the look and really want one but I don't want it to be too far down. The dimensions say 18" from top of deadbolt down to bottom of handle. How do you know if it is too low?

I think if you are doing a full-on Georgian the knobs would be a bit more detailed like the Baldwin Colonial Or the Emtek Waverly (can choose a different rose) Other than that, I would probably do the egg, since the plain round knobs seem a bit big compared to the smaller round knobs in the Federal and Greek Revival houses around here, and the egg seems a bit smaller--thats what I did, anyway. Glass knobs would be much too "modern" for a Georgian house

I have a 1930's house. Painted white. Small concrete bungalow. Heavy tropical vegetation in front yard. Large live oaks shade much of the yard. I can not decide on brick color for the paths. I would like to use black brick but am told it would be very hot in Florida. Any suggestions?

Those selections won't work for your front door. Those are interior door knobs/levers. You need a lockset for the front door and you have to know whether you want a mortise or tubular set. If you take close up pictures of your current door, lock, and the jamb, a local hardware place would be able to tell you what you need.

Is the doorknob on your front door at a standard height? I personally love #1. I considered it for our front door. If your door knob is at the standard height (which I assume it is), I would think you would be fine. The entry set we settled on has similar dimensions. Here is what it looks like installed. We have sidelights, but it should give you an idea.

It might just be the perspective of the photo that's kinda throwing me off. I agree with Jaymielo -- if your doorknob is at standard height, then I think the large doorset would look nice.

I think that is the same size as my front door and we have a door handle style similar to your option 1. We do have three leaded glass inserts in our door so I do not know it that makes a difference. We also have a door plate on the bottom to help break up the door. We have the Oil Rubbed Bronze door handle set and then we ordered the ORB door plate. The door plate is about 6in. wide and not quite as long as our door.

Jaymielo, wow! Your door and inset is so beautiful! I love the sidelights! I wish we could have them but there just isn't room. Thanks for your input. I was just worried that the doorsets are for taller doors only.

Gracie, I wish I could see pics of yours as well. It sounds beautiful!

Auntjen, yes it does seem so long, doesn't it? Our door has standard height placement for the knobs as far as I know.

Love the first one, and you have a standard size door, so it would be fine. Also, I personally don't care for lever handles on exterior doors. They remind me of bedroom doors and look wrong to me.

Do consider that your door handle won't show much behind the storm door.

kahlanne, nice job with the paint & stain. It looks great! Knob #1 is soooo pretty and would be a lovely on your door.

Did you post pictures of your home a couple of months back asking for trim color recommendations? The brick looks familiar.

Awm03, thanks! I love the new door. It looks richer in person than the pics show though. I am glad you voted for #1 as well. I really like it. LOL.

Yes, I asked for paint suggestions for outside a little while back. I finally made a decision and started painting and then morning sickness hit hard! LOL. I have never had it so bad with my other 4 pregnancies. Anyway, it was put on hold a while and I am just now up to starting again. I finally painted around the door, the darker green you see in the door pic. I also painted the eaves a lighter khaki green. Hopefully today I can finish up the front and post pics. The carport is completely painted! Woohoo! Lots of work there. Anyway, I am truding along and liking how it is coming together.

That dark green is very nice. It looks great with the brick in the photo. I can't believe you painted the carport already. THAT was a load of work.

Re: the lever inside, you might be able to change that. I'm racking my brain trying to come up with the manufacturer of that entry set, but to no avail. It must have fallen into the black hole of house details, but... depending on the mfg, you may be able to choose the interior knob. The default with out set was a lever and I switched it out to a knob to more closely match the interior knobs in the house. Just a thought, depending on your preference.
