Window treatment for arched windows?

We just bought a house that has arched windows above some of the other windows. They are pretty large (same width as our double entry doors). The one in our dining room lets in the afternoon sun, along with the heat. Do they make shutters for arched windows? I have seen fan-shaped looking things in the past and I don't care for those. I like simple and clean lines. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I've done a lot of research on this. We have two angled windows and an arched window on the second story of our 2 story great room. It was a nightmare trying to find something to cover those windows.

There are many options for arched and angled windows, but it will depend on how much you want to spend. Many manufacturers offer blinds and shutters for shaped windows. Shutter may be your easiest bet. Hunter Douglas, and other manufacturers, offer shutters, horizontals, verticals, and romans, all for arched or angled windows. But there may be limitations on the functionality of the blind.

We had trouble because we wanted to be able to open and shut the second story blinds, so we wanted to get remote controlled blinds. But none of the retailers we visited offered any solution aside from installing a stationary blind, because of the arch and angled windows. I finally found an installer who suggested putting fabric in the arch and angle and then installing the motorized blind where the window allows for a horizontal installation.

Yours look great! I don't think we would probably ever really need to open them. We live in Southern California and just want something to keep the sun out. I suppose I should make a trip to Lowes or something and see what they offer...Thanks!

That is one fabulous window! We have a similar arrangement but ours is narrower and taller. There is a thin, 1/2 inch black metal rod with simple ball finials at the end (I think it came from Restoration Hardware) that runs across the whole window above the half-circle. From it hang silk curtains, pinch pleat with small black metal rings that slide along the rod. I thought that would look strange but our designer convinced me to try it by showing me photos. Once the treatment was up I had to admit it was better than running the rod at the top of the rectangular windows (just at the base of the half-round). If the curtains had been hung there they would be much shorter and the proportion would have been wrong. As it is, the rod is just at the bottom edge of the crown molding. I wish I could post a photo, but can't figure out how to do it--sorry!

I would get no grid windows. It will help everything. Doing window treatments on arched windows will be expensive and tricky. Since they have to replace just get straight windows. They will have to fix framing but not a big deal. BUT watch the reinstall. Each window has to be redone for leak protection for every one of these windows and that is a nightmare to fix later.

Plantation shutters. @Ely M Beautiful inside too! Gorgeous floors. Love those windows & would be a shame to hide any of the features of them on inside. I’m guessing windows are centered on the wall - looks off in picture but guessing that’s angle. I’ve never seen angled rods as @threers suggests. I also think any inside mount blinds would be custom & $$$$ due to shape & I don’t think outside mount fits these windows. I would go with drapes with the rod just above highest point on center window & with panels that split in middle & pull half to each side. I see the vent at lower right so you may need to use shorter length that ends just below sill. Even though the other window just like this one is evidently in another room, if you want to cover it at night, use same kind of drapes so the view is the same from street & the back side of drapes should be white. BTW, love the hanging light too!

We have 2 eyebrow windows. We have found that the blinds we want for them - 2 inch blinds - are very expensive ($600-$900 depending on where we get them).

If you want to totally block the light, shutters should do fine. And yes, they make them for just about any shape window.

Another option, if you just want to control the glare and heat, is to have the windows covered with tinting film. We've done that with all our arches. Call a reputable company and they will give you a free consultation and bring or mail samples to you.
