Yesterday I went to town for paint: I decided on Annie's choice, BM Cork, although I was really taken with Tracie.erin, Teacats & Annkh's Olive & Sage suggestion and am reserving it for the spare room...but that's another post.

When I walked into the store, WHOMP! There, right before me is a beautiful WALLPAPER...so lovely, so perfect that my vision narrowed and I became oblivious to all else in the store. A halo of light shone around it! A faint chorus of heavenly voices were lifted in it's praise...OK, so maybe it was a skylight and CHRISTMAS MUSIC? Seriously? People it's October, come on!

Anyhow, it's a textured wallpaper that resembles raw silk or a handwoven fabric. I don't believe it will date quickly. And since I dislike painting but enjoy wallpapering, I basically charged over and snatched all the remaining rolls from the display, pausing only to check lot numbers and--ok, I admit it--snarl slightly at a stylish matron in a smart camel hair suit.

Best of all, it's vinyl so the dogs will (probably) not snack on it.

So the 15 Minute Design Challenge was a huge success: tCircuspeanut got me thinking "wallpaper" and the MBRM is on it's way, I loved Annie's Cork so much it's going on a LR wall, and those of you who suggested green gave me an idea for the spare bdrm.

Now if I could ask a question...
There's little trim in this room, the window and closets are frameless. I'm tjinking of matching the baseboards & single door frame to the wallpaper. Should I do that? Go 1 shade lighter? 2 shades?

Any input?

I'm papering today and tomorrow, will post pics when I 'm done : )

Oh, you are too funny! I really did laugh out loud with your description of entering the store and getting the wallpaper!

The paper looks wonderful. Can't wait to see it on the walls. As far as trim, I am boring and would go with some shade of white. I imagine others will chime in with marvelous thoughts for you.

Loved reading this- and while probably a shade or two down for trim would be lovely I also only do white trim (and love that).

I thought that the design software would help us set limits on numbers of plants per area but since it has yet to arrive in the mail perhaps Martie is right we should continue on so we dont loose too much momentum. I still however would like to plug our choices into a digital design and will share my attempts and ask for guidance with that as we go along. Below is the list of chosen plants for the vegetable beds although still in the kitchen garden lets move on to herbs (again another area of gardening that I know nothing about). This game is a creation of mutual effort so if you feel strongly about one thing or another or have a different vision please let us know. Should we move the fennel, garlic, and onions to the herb garden or are they considered veggies? The herb garden is 30 x 30 which will allow for nice wide pathways and easy access to plants. Hi Mags, It's hard to answer this, because your photos show that you are doing quite a good job with your gardens, and I'm confident that whatever you are thinking will work well. I noticed your post on the Rocky Mountain forum didn't get answered for a while, and I think it's because your gardens really look good, so many of us didn't have much advice to offer! You seem to be a fantastic gardener. I think your photos are fine that size, but my only advice on whether you've "overdone it" is that smaller requests on more specific questions may get people to respond better. It's just that when I'm busy and see such a long post, I always think, "I'll come back to that one when I have more time to focus." Anyway, here are a few quick thoughts: I always seem to bite off more than I can chew when it comes to complicated flower garden ideas, and then I find I don't have time to maintain it very well. But I am finding that some of the most enjoyable things in my garden are the fruits and berries. Sure, it takes some time to spray pesticides on fruit trees, but once every two weeks isn't bad, and you probably have to do that with your apple already. If I were you, I'd consider a nice peach, nectarine, or cherry tree in that spot. Maybe even two if it's big enough. Another consideration is a good patch of raspberries or strawberries. I have about a 10'x15' area dedicated to Canby raspberries, and I love it! Not much maintenance -- no pesticides -- and great rewards! I also have two strawberry patches near that, which are equally low maintenance. As far as high maintenance stuff, how about a rose garden? Some varieties that are strongly fragrant, beautiful ones for cutting? I like my flower gardens to be seen, and if this area is a spot where people won't see it much, it seems to me that having a cutting garden makes it much more enjoyable for sharing with visitors who come to your home. Maybe consider other flowers for cutting besides roses? Digit on the Rocky Mountain forum could give you great ideas for a cutting garden, since he grows flowers to sell at farmers' markets and such. But, you said yourself that the momentary recirculation during rinse fill does not have any scent or evidence of softener. :-) Being that I've not yet met a WA37T26G, I can't say with 100% confidence ... but based on my use of a GWL08 since 1999 and an IWL12 since 2004, and examinations of both machines and service manuals thereof, I'm reasonably sure. Recirculation simply picks up whatever water/fluids are in the outer tub and showers it into the inner basket, where it flows back to the outer tub to be picked up again for more recirculation. Unless F&P has radically changed the mechanical design of the tub and sump (which is possible, but I doubt so), there's no way to retain the softener in the outer tub (sump) after it releases when spin stops for the saturation spray that you described. It'll be pumped down the drain with the spray rinses and water extracted from the clothes, long before the rinse fill and momentary recirculation occurs. There's free-flow of water between the inner basket and outer tub, so anything in either one will mix through to the other via agitation currents as well as recirculation via the pump. My older GWL08 does not have the divertor valve and recirculation / EcoActive wash system. It does only a traditional deep-fill agitated wash ... and the instruction manual still advises to add detergent into the agitator. Softener dribbles down the agitator when it dispenses (same as your machine) and mixes though the clothes via agitation, no recirculation occurs or is required. GWL08 does an agitated deep rinse by default, with a Water Saver option button for shower rinsing .. and warns not to use softener with Water Saver .. same as your machine warns not to use it without the Softener Rinse option. As for adding detergent into the agitator, that's not *required*, it's simply F&P's quirky/preferred suggestion. The theory is that it'll dissolve/mix with water beneath the agitator and in the outer tub, minimizing exposing the clothes to undissolved detergent granules. The machine will work perfectly fine with detergent added directly to the tub, sprinkled atop the clothes. My IWL12 has the EcoActive system, but does not use it for the Handwash, Shoes, and Comforter cycles, and perhaps a couple others. All EcoSmart models from GWL10 (or 09) through GWL15 (and presumably your WA37T26G) have skipped EcoActive on the Perm Press cycle, going directly to a deep-fill agitated wash. If recirculation was crucial to dispensing of detergent, surely it'd be done for at least a couple mins on all cycles. Try this: Run a load with Softener Rinse, and instead of using the dispenser, add softener down the agitator during rinse fill, AFTER the momentary recirculation is finished. Then notice if there's evidence of softener and scent on the clothes. F&P tends to be slow responding to e-mail, particularly if the question needs to passed along to other personnel. I had suggested previously to try setting the machine for a double deep rinse, which may be the only way to get softener dispensed properly. That's not quite correct ... you can of course add softener manually to the deep rinse.

Thanks for asking, Moonie. I think about it a lot, but I don't see myself doing anything about it until next spring at the earliest. I think I mentioned on the KT that I was going to wait until I got my cataract surgery over with, and that hasn't even been scheduled yet (and won't be, as long as I'm being treated for Lyme). Then last month my finances took a big hit from several sides, and the last thing I need is vet bills right now. But another factor is the challenges that winter brings. I'm going to have to figure out how to deal with this issue before I get another dog. My dirt road (and much of the property) is always icy in winter, and after injuring my knee a couple of years ago I am no longer willing to fall every winter. So I can't do any dog walking. Over the years I've had dogs we could let out by themselves, but some of my neighbors up the road ruined that idea when they started letting their large, aggressive dogs run free. My property is their favorite toilet, apparently, and they once attacked Wolfy in my back yard, giving him a serious wound in the throat. I have 31 acres here, but I feel as though I don't dare let a dog out by himself. When I had Angel and Wolfy I dealt with this by letting them out the back door in winter on a 25' horse lunge line, with me keeping watch. I suppose I would do this again. But this winter, with my Raynaud's Syndrome as bad as it is, I'll be somewhat relieved not to have to repeatedly open an outside door and unhook cold metal leash fasteners. Life is complicated. :-/ Glad to read the good advice and support you've received on this thread. PS: As long as I'm here, did you see my mention that I was surprised this week by a childhood friend popping in to visit me at work? Her maiden name was Clark.

Sounds like you have several great ideas working. I do white trim myself, but I think you could go lighter or darker with that paper. Make sure you don't have any transition issues with adjoining rooms, sight lines inside or out and I would go at least 2 shades different to make sure it looks and feels intentional in a different texture. One shade difference could looks like a near miss, especially when dealing with different textures and types of surfaces.

Anele, the pics may have to wait--I'm having too much fun whooping it up in town to go home and WORK. You know you live in the country when the jigh point of your week is a trip to the hardware store.

I have loved going to the hardware store since I was a kid. Used to go to the Bryn Mawr Hardware with Dad almost every weekend. The horse was not always thusly attired-only for special days!

Oops, Lascatx I wish I'd read your post b4 I got the paint, it sure sounds like you know your stuff! I'm good on sightlines, fortunately but the paint I got is a really close match to the wallpaper. Oh well, if you look up "exception to the rule" it has my picture next to it, lol! We checked the paper with an off white paint and it was a good match but it looked...weird.

OMG, Cyn--when was that picture taken? It's a dead ringer for our hardware/department/Sears/feed store...but, speaking of dead ringers, OUR horse is on the roof of the store, and never gets dressed up. But he does have a cow, hog & chicken up there for company...

Gawd, I love small towns...who cares if you can't get a decent Chai Latte : p

Ha. That picture could be anytime from the 1920s until the 1990s. Probably 60s though judging from the grills. The store closed when my son was young (90s maybe?). Maybe Ded will remember exactly when it closed if she sees this. Very sad. Yes, even though we were near the city, we grew up with the small town feel. We even had a seed and feed in Bryn Mawr! I would love to see the menagerie on the roof of yours!

Ok, here's a prelim pic of wallpaper vs. trim color and Lascatx is 100% right (duh!) about the 2 shades lighter or darker for trim! "Is there a "10 Commandments of Decorating" sticky anywhere on the site for feebs like me?

Now, the trim color looks a lot lighter in the pic and kinda/sorta ok in the pic. In real life 'tho, it's bleh! 1 shade lighter. It needs to be Much. Darker. (I don't want white/off white trim 'cuz I think it would be too much contrast...'tho I have some downstairs, maybe I'll try it on some baseboard...)
