I bought a black fridge because I liked the look. My DW is also black, but the stove...which was custotm ordered by PO is cream, as is the range hood. My microwave is black and stainless.

We're replacing the stove with a white/black and I'm going to keep the hood the color it is as it blends with my cabinets. My kitchen is postage stamp size and I don't think the black is too overwhelming. My fridge is pretty much built in, and the cabs surrounding it are espresso, so it blends well.

I think either black or stainless would look good. Most stainless fridges have black sides and I think black and stainless look good together.

If you have any accessorises in the kitchen that are stainless or brushed nickle, i.e. light fixtures, cabinet knobs or small appliances, you could go with ss fridge. If you dont have other ss/nickle items in the kitchen, I would stick with a black fridge.

I think you should keep all of the appliances the same color -- especially in a small kitchen.

Our kitchen is definitely small...and all our appliances are black because we like the look. In fact, I will admit that we replaced our previous (almost new) white fridge with a black one just for the colour. When we decided to add an island, we chose a black base. So, black appliances can work quite nicely in a small kitchen.

Work toward a single color that you like. A large refrigerator looks large regardless of its color. Refrigerators and dishwashers that accept panels to match cabinets may make them a little less obvious and definitely reduces the number of appliances that you need to coordinate.

I'm an oddball who prefers white appliances. I constantly wish death to my stainless dishwasher, stove and microwave.

I would do Stainless. I think it blends in more and it doesn't look bad with black appliances.

I think it depends on factors other than the size of your kitchen. Angles of the room, how the fridge is placed in the room, other finishes in the space, are important.

My sister has a small kitchen with black appliances & they look very good. She has red walls, wood cabs, medium toned floors. White would look odd with her other elements, and she hates stainless.

In my small kitchen, a black fridge would look like a big rock sitting there. It would indeed look and feel very obtrusive. I also have creamy cabs & a soft look overall, so black has nothing to do with anything else going on in there.

In your kitchen it may work. Think about your other finishes and features and the overall affect you are trying to achieve.

Black. It kinda disappears where white stands out. I've slowly replaced all my appliances with black (except for the fridge, it's bisque and says "LOOK AT ME!"). The range, dw and trash compactor are black. The look is subtle :)

Here's my stainless steel refrigerator. The only reason I got stainless is because I eventually plan to replace all the appliances w/stainless.

MsRose gave you great pix to peruse. I would go with the black, as I think it is more elegant and less obtrusive visually than the reflective stainless.

Laurie, I am in love with those windows above your counter! Hard to tell with the light coming through them, but are they clear windows or frosted or block? Have you ever considered doing a trim tile or trim to match your cabinets around them? What a great look, and great light on the work surface.

Thanks, Les. I actually was kind of unsure about the windows at first, but now I'm glad to have them since that's the only natural light I have in the kitchen. The previous owners put some window film on it that looks like stained glass. I'm planning to replace it with the frosted glass kind just because the stained glass looks too fake. I'm eventually going to put in granite countertops and a new backsplash, so I'm sure I'll need some ideas on what to do with the windows then.

I like the black. I am thinking of getting a black frig. My stove is white, but has black front. Old dishwasher is white. Cabinets are yellow with hinges and handles black rod iron.What do you think? I wanted to attach pix, but don't know how.
