FWIW, I am drawn to tile # 2. The one in the middle. I like how it looks with your cabs. Richer. I would also set the tile on the diagonal, diamond shape. Maybe an inset stone of black?

Thanks kmcg85, I intend on laying it on the diagonal. I probably won't be able to have an inset since dh is doing the floor and although he has tiled two countertops before, he doesn't have lots of experience. Aren't insets difficult to do? I love the way they look. You are right, the brown is richer and the lighter is more contrast which I love both so it is difficult to decide. Thanks for your vote though. It helps alot.

Another vote for #2 -- Again, the richer, less-ordinary look. #1 is pretty, but it's everywhere. #2 also seems to go better with the shots of the rest of your house.

I like #2 as well, but when you say you're going to tile the counters, do you mean with the same tile? I don't know about that...

I will be the lone voter for #1. I think that the floor should be a neutral, and with your dark vanity, I think the second tile is too dark for a small room. Use your paint colors to accent the room - leave the permanent stuff neutral.

What tile are you doing for the countertop?

I think either tile would look very nice in your new bathroom. I like the way how tile #2 looks so warm, but I agree with caroleoh and would pick #1. I also like the fact that you said there are more variations in tile #1 and looks more like natural stone.

Also like #1 - Consider the slip resistant factor on the tiles since this is a bathroom floor.

Insets are not that difficult. You will be glad if you use an inset somewhere in the bathroom. They are usually on a grid mesh and they cut just as easy as regular tile. They really set the tile off.

Here are photos of guest bath tile inset and masterbath tile inset. I have corian countertop so no inset there though. I didn't put anything in the floor, it is just plain 12 inch tile same color as shower.

DH picked the guest bath inset with a contrasting color to the tile; I picked the masterbath inset without much of a contrast. DH choice is much better - he has a better eye then I do.

Thanks so much for all of your thoughts. I really appreciate it. Both tiles are have a little texture which will help with the slipping issues in the bathroom. The countertop is going to be tiled with a complimentary tile to the floor tile choice. Matter of fact, we are also tiling around the tub/shower with the same tile as the countertop tile. This will tie the two areas together imo. What do you think?

Both nice, as you say, but I would lean more towards the lighter to stay relatively neutral throughout the years and as trends come and go. I would than put rich dark accents,frames for pictures and rich dark towels to boost the luxury factor. My only concern would be the floor is not SO white that you will see every little hair on it - I personally find that a pain the bathroom. I've even gone so far as to sprinkle stuff on a choice that I'm trying to make - because in the long run -high maintenace is out! Good luck!

I prefer #2. I think it has a richness that the first one doesn't have. I am also not crazy about the 'splattered' look of #1.

OK, my pick is #1.

Remember that darker tile looks even darker when multiplied. Your tile choices look really similar to the tiles I have in my Master bath and the laundry room. In the laundry room, once it was laid, it didn't look as brown as I thought and it turned more plum. I can see that same color in #2.

I have #1 in my powder room in a staggered running pattern on the floor and up the walls 3 feet.

The business of the pattern is not annoying to me and does a fabulous job of hiding stuff that ends up on the floor.

Not that I don't clean, of course. :D

Of the two, I like #2 also; richer and less busy with your cabs. I did prefer a lighter, more neutral color as in #1 also, though, but maybe with more color and less pattern :)

What did you decide on?

I like #1, and for reason that disneyrsh mentioned - it will hide things on the floor. I clean, but then again I have a plaque hanging on my kitchen wall that says: I clean my house every other day, today is not the other day. :O

I have tile very much like #1. It looks nice, not too light, but not too dark, either. It does hide everything, too. The floor never looks dirty.

I think witht the dark cabinets, #1 is nicer.

Beautiful cabinets! It's a hard decision, but I vote for #2. It think it really complements the handsome hardware on the cabinets.

I think #1 is a prettier tile. I'm not enthusiastic about the leather look one.

I vote #1. I think you would get tired of the darker tile very quickly, and I think it would dominate the room.

I like the darker one, #2. The light one is nice, but appears a little 'flat' against such a dark vanity. The darker one has a richness and depth that the light one lacks.
