Has anyone 'framed' a plate glass mirror in bathroom?
Comments (30)duchamp, I checked my clippings, I didn't save it and the post is so old it's dropped off the bathroom forum. Are you looking for how to build a niche (my husband just built it to my specification for overall height and height from the floor between the studs in the wall) or just the inspiration photo? It wasn't a "how to," just a photo which I ultimately adapted because I couldn't get it to work for me as it was. That was a bit stressful initially because I wanted it to be just that way, but I realized I could make it my way. I had the general concept but I couldn't recall how the glass shelf was supported so that it wasn't obvious, that's why I wanted the picture; I wanted to do it "right." The inspiration photo's magazine rack was hmmm....made with painted strips of wood, more country I think and I knew that wasn't going to get made and found the Pottery Barn rack for a great price on eBay. It was just easier to pop the purchased rack in and I like the final result better. I purchased a tempered glass shelf cut to my dimensions online, I'm not sure if the inspiration photo used tempered glass but I thought it would be safer even though I don't have kids running around. When it first was installed all I could notice was how the greenish tint to the glass edge clashed with the green paint on the wall, I don't notice it anymore. We ended up supporting the shelf (because I never could figure it out from the picture) with small, square dowels painted to blend. Again, I had had a different thing in mind with hardware but I guess I was dreaming that that existed so we needed to adapt. It's funny how the project caused so much fuss at the time because I wanted perfect and with all the adaptations I thought I was going away from perfect but of course in the end, it's perfect!...See MoreMirror Mirror on the wall... help!
Comments (14)WOW! Thanks everyone! You've been busy helping me! Thanks for all the great ideas, everyone. Sadly, les917, not all is going to work especially the furniture arrangement! :( The room is 13Â 6" by 18 4". The French doors arenÂt the front entry, its going toward the sunroom, the entrance/entry is the opposite side with the halltree! ha Let me give you the dimensions and see if you can make the arrangement but I can promise you it wonÂt work. I have been struggling and move them around for 10 years and this is far the best I can get. Dimensions: French doors are 6Â 5" Tiny wall next to it is 1Â 8" Fireplace mantel is 5Â 10" Window wall is 5Â The graduation pictures wall is 13Â 6" The tiny oval pictures wall is 2Â 4" The entrance towards the kitchen is 3Â 6" The anniversary wall is 4Â 7" The banister is 4Â 6" The entrance between banister and the wall is 3' 6" There are three entrances to this room (what a pain). The grand piano is 55" wide by 67" deep. It has to stay open for the better sound for he plays it everyday and teaches privately with his students 2 times a week. The sofa is 90" and the chair is 42" wide. The round end table is 29" diameter. The purpose of the dresser is where I keep candles and vases, etc. which I really donÂt have to have it. IÂm looking for a console for the right size to fit on that wall and IÂm having a hard time where now IÂd like to store music sheets/books. I did have it by the piano/stairway wall, it doesnÂt look right and made the entrance too narrow. The coffee table is 36" square (cannot get rid of if because we display our daughter whom died of SIDS pictures/items in there. I can get rid of the floor lamp if husband doesnÂt get upset (it was given to him from his favorite aunt) and there is no overhead lighting but those two lamps for the room plus the tiny lamp for the piano which does get pretty dimmed (I just bought the lamp for the round table from Goodwill and going to change the lampshade verily soon)! WeÂve been talking about putting windows on the graduation wall but have to save $$ first! Please get back to me and see if you have any better ideas with the furniture! I really appreciate your feedback! Keep it coming! Thank you. Thank you! Comments (23)We're nearly twins, jerzee! My vanity was supposed to be a warm mid-brown and it turned out darker, more mahogany-looking than I'd planned. Counter is also Cararra. My walls are SW Antique White, sort of french vanilla, and floors are a mid gray tile. Initially I thought the walls were too warm for the grays and chrome, but I like gray and cream together and I'm leaving it all as is. I had stressed over matching or mixing the metals and, in the end, have mostly chrome except for a bit of satin nickel. Nobody notices or cares. I hope you like the original finish on the mirror. A lot depends on how it works in your space. I have plenty of natural light in my bathroom. If you decide to go more silver, I can share what I did, plus what I did at first and what you should avoid doing. :)...See MoreMirror Mirror at the shop
Comments (12)Are you thinking of doing a very large mirror that you just lean? That was very much in vogue a few years ago... I like it. In my last house I had a dressing room and one set of closet doors were mirrored. I preferred wood panel, so my carpenter replaced them, He then took the old door and made a big frame for it with heavy molding. He painted it nickel using metallic paint (I think RL makes it). You might be able to have someone make something for you for less than the oversized ones cost. They can even buy and glue on wooden appliques of garland, etc. Try a glass store or even a framing place. Here is the one from my old dressing room. Not a great pic but you get the idea! Try CL, Ebay and ... who will recall that online dealer in high quality used furniture? It was a PA co.? KevinMP got a breakfront there and I think Beagles, too. They sold used LaBarge IIRC. Oh and I nearly forgot ... http://victoriaelizabethbarnes.com/huge-victorian-antique-mirror/...See Moreigloochic
