Need advice quickly please

I've now realized that I shouldn't have done the bullnose corners in my new house. It's done and I have to live with it. My question and I hope someone has some great ideas for a paint color for me. The dilemma .... the staircase walls have to be the color of the kitchen (walls of staircase start in kitchen)which is SW Mannered Gold. Upstairs is a landing with a small sitting area. I really wanted to have a different color for the landing, such as a soft taupe (the bedrooms are chocolate brown, soft sage and pottery barn silver blue) but now I'm thinking with the bullnose corners, I should just have it SW Mannered Gold as there's no place to break the color. Any ideas??? I'm desperate as the painter is wanting the paint to finish the upstairs by Friday!!

I am not sure that a taupe would play nice with Manner Gold. Have Mannered Gold in my house and love it but would think that it would take a very yellowy undertoned taupe to look nice up against it. HTH!

Here are some pics, the photos don't show the true color of the floors though. They were much darker and had more brown and less red in person. We did chose a almost black wire brushed oak floor in our newest build. Just to try something different, but I would do a dark handscraped low sheen again in a heart beat. :) We do build a new home every three years as an investment, so no real long term experience. But in the three plus years of having each home the floors wore well and did not show scratches with dogs. But low sheen, and handscraped did hide any scratches or dings we did have and looked natural. Installed painted border: need advice quickly!

Since you have low-ish ceilings, I would compromise by painting above and below the border in the same color. Then I would take the border away from around the door and just repair that little bit of drywall. Having the border go around the door does date your room about 30 years, and pulls the ceiling down almost claustrophobically. A more updated color will show off your furniture to better advantage than the faux marble. In that perfect universe where time and money are no object (will we ever live there??), I would take down the border, repair the drywall, paint the walls and install crown molding, which would simultaneously update and make your ceilings look higher. I hate making suggestions that involve more work when you've obviously slaved over this border issue. The day we decided to wallpaper over a room that had just been newly papered the week before is still a dark moment in decorating history in our house!

If you have the landing yet another color, you will have 5 colors going on! Even with or without bullnose, that's a lot to ask for getting colors to all work together. Did you want the landing a different color for decorative purposes (paintings/accessories), or to blend with all three bedrooms? If the latter, go ahead and do the landing in Mannered Gold. Maybe the (White?) trim will be a break between the landing and the bedrooms. And if you really dislike one/more of the bedroom colors with the gold, maybe you can change it before going too far in the decorating.

I don't own a paint deck so I can't help with colors, but could you consider stripes as a transition? Something that blends softly with the Mannered Gold, but also works with the colors upstairs. Start your first stripe in the "new color" about 6-8" in from the bullnose. Mine was a different problem - I wanted to transition to a lighter color on my stairway upstairs and my foyer (both have very little natural light) and even though the colors blended, I didn't want a sudden stop/start of paint colours.
Sorry these are the only photos I have, the lighting's not great, but you will see the dark/light stripes. The darker shade (BM Sisal) is in every room on the main floor. The lighter shade is the one that I transitioned upstairs and foyer. If you look at the kitchen shot, I ended up having to butt the two colors at the corner. It would have been easier to wrap the dark around the corner but that was poor planning on my part.

Dianalo, I wish I had some pics, but the house is about 20 miles away and I typically go on weekends.

Thanks for all the input... I've decided to just go with the mannered gold on the landing, incorporating some gold accents in the brown & sage rooms.

Elsa42, I love your stripes... what a great idea!! I just might do that wtih alternating with SW Blonde, as the downstairs ceilings will be blonde.

I will eventually get around to posting some pictures. Thanks again for all your help! I have learned so much on these forums!
