Window seat/banquette bench with table? Photos?
Comments (11)Yes, I think it was the Ode to Banquette Lafacia - take a look at a "Boat" shaped table. I am going to post mine - but you want a "real" table and not the pop-up variety. Mine was done by an Amish/English - not sure if you would call it a cooperative but the Amish do part of it and the English finish it off with the stain, etc. I think the shape would work - they make a table in this shape as well. I think it was called Grand River or Grand Rapids - if you like it, I can find the info. This is a catalog picture - I think this is actually the desk - we also bought the desk but had it sized for our house - so they will work with you to "customize" it. Here it is - decked out for 2 for breakfast - We kept it small as the entry into the kitchen might have been problematic if we went too large. - Mostly, I want you to see the boat shape - not sure if the pictures capture it - but imagine a boat with the ends cut off - it gives a bit more room to climb into the area - but it is not too much that it is not functional. From the other angle Pop goes the weasel - ours pops up to a table height - but since you need to seat 5 -not an option for you....See MoreQuestion re: banquette seating under windowsill
Comments (8)sorry to say that I rejected just such a planning option due to windows backing a banquette. The built in banquette would look great until someone went through the window backwards :-( or no one would sit with their backs to the windows in the winter :-( or we kept losing guests behind the banquette window drapes :-) We will be going with regular chairs. Comments (5)If it's a 9 foot long wall and you use a 48" long table then yes you will have room. The angled corners are only there to scoot in to sit on the banquette along the 48" length anyway. Don't be fooled by the idea that you will have a drawer in the built-in cabinetry as shown. Note the height of the seat of the chairs and the height of the top of the banquette cushion - way different. The banquette is way higher. This a a common misconception. Just add the inches up: 4" to 5" h base board, a rail at the top and bottom to hold the drawer in, the top molding edge, the cushion height and then subtract from 18" (the height the top of the cushion should be)...and well you are lucky to have enough for just a tiny niche. I'm 6' and I would not find that banquette height comfy even with my very long legs ; - ) Also prior designer is correct to be aware of the expenses you are walking into. Perhaps you simply remove the door add a window with a built in bench (just deep enough) in front of the wall?I do not see a plan and assume it is not possible or you would have considered it? Tip: College degreed and subsequent major design office experienced designers always begin by designing in plan ; - )...See MoreBanquette seating design help
Comments (15)You are very welcome, Mary. Anne Hathaway's cottage is darling. Here's the link: https://www.houseandgarden.co.uk/gallery/studio-shamshiri-gives-a-storybook-california-cottage-singular-appeal?fbclid=IwAR0tO8DuHJzvHUY0cH_iUCQrLAmTM5LkLDs--0zsonkRYo-WiBsHsaIEV_w What I like about Anne Hathaway's cottage is that she kept it classic and not overdone. I could just hang there easily. The other pic is just an inspiration as to how a banquette can be embellished. Lately I've been repurposing tall entertainment/tv cabinets, in kitchens as pantries. You can add shelves easily and the depth is great, as it used to hold those clunker TVs of the past. Sometimes you can get them for free on craigslist. Then you can paint them a great color with a coordinating color on the cabinet interior. I fitted one as my bar and it works brilliantly. Again, if you want an update of the floor plan showing the position of the front door and windows in the family room, mark it up and send it over and I'll revise....See Morequandary
