I love that cupboard! I have a big tv armoire I can't seem to give away. Now I'm wondering if I could put one large front door on it and turn it into a cupboard like yours. Love the stuff you arranged for display in it!

That pine cupboard is drop-dead gorgeous! I love that it does not have a heavy finish on it to hide the wood. I have always wanted to take a vacation up in Maine....I think if we do go we need to bring the pick-up truck and trailer and do some antiquing :-)

Thanks, everyone - they sure do make me smile! I copied Pam's idea of having light within the cupboard, and it adds so much warmth! The old lamp is from eBay (natch!) but I didn't have another short enough to illuminate the lower shelf.

I took my shortest brass (eBay) candlesticks, some candle sleeves and chandelier sockets (I have these on hand as I love to make lamps from candlesticks) and in a few minutes had two 'candles' with 5 watt silicone coated bulbs that make the flame look quite realistic for the cupboard. I used a paper punch to punch a hole in the sleeve and the wire runs through that, so no drilling is needed.

Now that I have seen how much a bit of light adds to something like this, I highly recommend try it in your cupboards, armoires, or what-have-you, whether they are closed with glass doors or open. The wattage is so low that there is very little heat generated, and it's like nightlights in the cupboard.

You can buy ready made candlesticks with those bulbs. I just found this one on eBay in the link below to show you. There are also 'dressier' styles, if that is what you need.

Oldhouse, my favorite relatives lived in Ontario but moved to St. Stephens, NB when they retired.

Unfortunately the Mustard House is in Buxton, quite a way from Boothbay...a couple of hours. She is open Thurs - Sat from 10 - 5:30 and on Sunday from 12 - 4. She's 10 miles from me and I am SO glad a friend took me there years ago!

I don't know if it's 'legal' for me to give the shop info, but I do not benefit in any way. Note that she has more decorating accessories than furniture, but she has wonderful things! I get all of my faux fruit, berries, ALL that stuff from her as hers is so realistic. All the stuff in the wooden bowl above is from her as well as the Chinese lanterns in the pitcher, and the berries in the vase.

We'll be staying in Boothbay for 3 nights and plan on taking driving trips throughout the day, so we may get to that area. I've never been to Maine and am looking so forward to it. I envy you living in such a beautiful place. Would welcome any suggestions you may have for antiguing in the area. Would still like to see some of your house as well if you have any pictures that you may have posted in the past. You obviously have a great talent.

I wouldn't say talent, but my love for old things, and the patina they have is what floats my boat. :-) I did a search on Google and found one of the firsts post I ever put on this site...in July of 2008! So things have changed, but this will give you an idea of what I like. I just scrolled through it quickly and the living room has changed a lot, but you see more of my DR there. The DR is my least favorite and least used room. I eat all my meals at the table in the back of the LR which overlooks the river, which you can't see from the DR.

My house is 'the house of eBay and Craisglist'. I buy antique and vintage things and have found some INCREDIBLE bargains!

my3dogs, I'm absolutely green with envy. Outside, inside and all around, your home is warm, inviting and ouzing with charm. I just adore it. We recently purchased an 1840 home which we have been working on for the past 3 years and probably have another 3 years to go. I can't say it's always been a labor of love because it has been a daunting task but having finally finished the kitchen after being without one for a year we are finally seeing the roots of our labor. I so marvel at people like you who have been so successful with your finds on ebay and craigslist. I never seem to find anything. What a pleasure it would be to walk through your home and take in all the beauty you have so skillfully gathered together. Thanks for sharing.

I love everything! The pine cabinet is wonderful and is the perfect place to showcase some of your treasures. The light in it looks great there.
The pine washstand with the Minton tiles is beautiful. I especially like the tiles that were used. I can't begin to count the number of great pieces I've seen over the years, but hated the tiles they used! Yours are wonderful and look like they'd work well in many areas of your home.
And then there's your sea chest . . . be still my heart! It's fantastic! I love the colors, the designs painted on it, it's shape!

I'll be looking for pics of the sea chest once you get it into your office and settle it in .

I wish you could have seen this house when I bought it in 1986. It looked like a little red school house with white trim and black shutters. The back yard was a ravine with dying trees in it, and the shed was next to the house where the garage is now.

There were no gardens...I was younger then and dove in and worked hard as I LOVED the house from the moment I saw it, with the blazing wood stove in the kitchen,(now in the cellar) which had dark home made cabinets and 24" of counter space, and a vinyl 'brick' floor.

Oldhouse - It makes me think of your journey that you are on with your house now, although mine only dates to 1937. I have touched every square inch of this place and added some square feet! It'll be 25 years that I have had it this December, and I love it even more today, as it's perfect for me and my doggie kids. I have truly enjoyed working in the house and yard all of those years. It sure doesn't happen over night.

So anyone who thinks that it's nice; I am very grateful that my love for my home shows. It's been a long time coming. My taste has been 'honed' over the years, from the blue and pink of the 80's, to what it is today, thank goodness! And, I know that I talk about eBay and Craigslist often, but they have helped me immensely with wonderful unique items.

Oh, Nancy, I can see why you'd think that, but they are quail. It's a Furnivals Quail platter from 1913 that I got on eBay. I paid $9.95 on 8/27, and there are ones on eBay now that range from $49.99 - $70.95! Mine is in perfect condition.

Isn't that a crazy bathroom? WHO would put transferware in a bathroom?!!

I actually have it in the upstairs one, too, but not in the one I added in the cellar earlier this year. :-)

It's red/pink china in that half bath, and black and white in the 2nd floor one. I LOVE patterns, and am also a 'fabric-aholic'. I see fabric I like and might buy a yard or two just to have and make pillows or something with.

If you like my bathrooms, take a look at the new one in the cellar at the link below. I'd estimate that 75% of the stuff in it is recycled. It was a great winter project with my favorite carpenter.

Hope it's still true that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. My old cupboard isn't as fancy as yours but I do love it. We just moved and it's been sitting empty for a month until I saw your pictures. I just went through some boxes and picked out some things that are dear to me for one reason or another. I love how it turned out but am sure as time goes along I'll be replacing things. I also don't have an electric plug on that wall yet but it's on hubby's honey-do list so hopefully I can light it up more. Need to add some more greenery/foliage too.
Those battery operated candles don't put out much light.
