show me your overhead lighting in family/living room please

If I do go ahead and swap my dining room with the living room (see separate thread) I'm going to have a chandelier hanging over the seating area. It will probably look funny, even if I raise it but I don't know. I could get some other fixture (though I love that vintage chandelier) but I can't imagine what it would look like in that kind of space.

So if you have overhead light of some kind (not recessed - I already have that) that is either a chandelier or ceiling fixture in your family room or living room, could you please share a picture? I'm having trouble picture anything that isn't over a table. Thanks!

I turned this room from a puny little dining room to a study, so I took the chandelier down and replaced it with this one. I know what you mean, it's tricky to find something that looks right, but you'll know it when you see it!

Oh Elsa, thank you! That's exactly what I needed to see so I can switch my brain over. Right now I look at the dining area (since it's all open) and still see "dining" not plop down casual seating.

Carpet is greyish/multi in color. Drapes? Dear god we're not even close to picking that out yet :) We are using white 2 inch wood blinds. Drapes may be a decorative valence only. acountryfarm has the almost exact color we're getting in our hallways and downstairs bathroom. For the living room, as it stands right now we like "Harvester" from Sherwin williams (SW6373). We've got about 2-3 weeks to make up our minds. All the other rooms were easy, the main living room has been tough to nail down. Has to be warm/soft hue, good contrast to the leather, not too dark. We're thinking yellowish or greenish tint. No browns, beige, red, or blue. My wife has been scanning magazines for the pervebial "that's it" but we haven't found it yet. Here is a link that might be useful: Harvester color

Both my living and family rooms have darker, non-neutral colors. I love my cozy rusty-red living room, but have decided to repaint my green family room (eventually). I just bought the green leather sofa in there on CL a few weeks ago and was planning on redyeing the leather brown to work in the room. But now I like the soft, distressed color so much I think I'm going to paint the walls instead; I'll probably use SW Camelback, the same color as the adjoining dining room.

Please show me your bedroom ceiling light fixture

In our master bedroom, we did a ceiling fan. The light is so dim on this that I never turned it on. In addition to this, we also have 4 cans. Again, I never turn them on. We have a lamp on each nightstand that we use to read at night. However, I LOVE the ceiling fan. It really moves the air in the room and makes sleeping all the more pleasant. (This from the biggest anti ceiling fan person in the world, go figure.) The pic was taken so during construction so it isn't boo-tiful, but you see the light failry well.

We had a knee wall divider similar to yours. Nice to divide the areas, but I always thought it was a waste of space. Our kitchen renovation (currently in the midst) will turn it into a two-sided bookcase, wider than the old knee wall. It will have a granite top, to match counters. The old knee wall was always a catchall place for keys, etc., and I'm sure the new divider will be, too. Granite top will take more abuse than wood. Ours is 66" long x 42" high x 24" deep. Kitchen side will house cookbooks, FR side will hold other books. Although we recently got rid of at least 8 cartons of books, we still have tons left (we are real bibliophiles, even tho' we both have Kindles now). This bookcase divider will be installed with other kitchen cabinetry Monday (two days away!) so I won't be able to post pix until after that. I think your idea is good, too, with a mix of open shelves & cabinets. I wish I had thought of a cell phone charge area. If you had an outlet running just below the top edge -- or wired through the middle & to the shelf, it could def work.

Hi Dee,
It's Deilcraft (was owned by Electrohome). They're not around any more - I got this one about 25 years ago because my neighbor worked their and got a great deal! :)

We have recessed lighting and table lamps so we use a 56" ceiling fan sans light, as natal suggested. It's a Hunter in an oil rubbed bronze finish.

I have a small chandy in my LR & matching sconces on the wall. Excuse the pix, they are not updated...

This room switch is going to be a fun makeover!

loribee your rooms are gorgeous! I love seeing your chandy there and would like to think I could maybe still use one. I was also thinking if I had to take it down, I could maybe put it in the kitchen thought I sorta like what's in the kitchen now.

I am really excited about the makeover. The living room is large so it looks much better suited to a dining room with cabinets all around.
