Barbara Berry (Baker) fabrics 100% Rayon or Viscose
Comments (0)Barbara Berry for Baker furniture offers many fabrics that are 100% Rayon or 100% Viscose. The samples look extraordinary in their quality and feel. And yet, how will such a fabric hold up in terms of stain removal (should something happen) or stretching or simply holding their shape and not wrinkling? Does anyone who knows fabric and this company's quality care to educate me? Would I be making an expensive mistake, or are these fabrics a higher quality than most made out of rayon or viscose?...See MoreGerm and Bedbug Paranoia: Upholstery Fabric?
Comments (14)mjsee, that's not a rant, it's a legitimate belief. Trouble is proving you are...and how I hope you are...correct. If there is definitive proof, I've not heard it. I have read that horrendous crimes in general are higher because of today's wide-sweeping, all pervasive news and copy-caters. Surely there have been studies and the stats are available. I've just not been made aware of it. On the other hand, if the stats are the same and we were just less aware of it back in the day, would we not have been more protective then, too, had we known? i did not allow my children, nor does my daughter allow my grandchildren to ".... let my kids have the same level of freedom I had..." and here's why: Over 40 years ago, at age ten, while walking 6 blocks to my grandmothers house I was attacked by a man. Fortunately, I was rescued and unharmed. Also as a young girl while out bike riding and/or walking to school, I was approached and/or 'flashed' on several occasions. I was grabbed and quickly( harmlessly and scarily) groped by a man during an afternoon movie I was attending with my older eleven year old brother. So my philosophy was this: I would rather over-protect and see them grow up safely. It seemed to do no harm as both graduated college and fearlessly wandered the world, tramping through jungles and living in huts with strangers or alone. My grown children are coping me in this with their kids. So, mjsee, I'm not calling you out as wrong. I'm simply explaining why I did not give my children the same freedom I had in my not- always halcyon days of yore. Though it would not change my mind, I would really be comforted to learn that crime has NOT escalated, so if you've a link or can direct me to a source, please do! TIA! Oh! I was going to apologize to the OP for taking this adrift, but see it was me re. smelly fabric! See this is why we should never complain when our posts are taken off-course. It can be like conversing on here, and isn't this last bit far more interesting than bedbugs, germs or smelly fabric?! :>)...See MoreUpholstery fabric durability question
Comments (4)Jan and Clt, I had no idea there was such a product. If I decide to get the chair, it might make it worth a try. I might post a new question to see if anyone has used it. My3dogs, that is EXACTLY what I was looking for - an opinion on which fabric listing might be wrong. And the list price gives me a little better idea of the quality. The research I've done says that adding poly to rayon helps it's durablity, so I knew I wouldn't even consider if it was 100% cotton, even though I prefer natural fabrics. Yes, I am very worried about fading. If I get it, I'll just have to think about the uv treatment and accept that I'll have it recovered in a few years with something more durable. If only it was in the outdoor fabric, though that might feel pretty icky. Thanks for your help....See MoreRayon fabric--the good, bad, and ugly?
Comments (8)People who make clothes out of rayon should pre-wash (and therefore pre-shrink) the fabric before making the clothes, but they don't always. Hence the variation in people's experiences. Generally, the care instructions are the clue. Dry clean only means it wasn't pre-laundered and it will shrink like nobody's business if you try to wash it (as Lascatx found out). If it says you can wash it, it was probably pre-laundered and shouldn't shrink much, if at all, from washing. Drying, however, is asking for trouble. I wash almost everything in cold (unless I'm trying to sanitize), so I can't say what happens with warm water....See Moretuesday_2008
